Have you ever recognised yourself or anyone else on street view?

Just that really, I’ve just seen someone I used to know (I know the face is blurred but it was definitely them) but they died in about 2012. I didn’t know them that well but it was like seeing a ghost. Has anyone ever seen/recognised anyone or themselves?

You can access old versions on Google earth on the app.

Thank you. 😊

My friend showed me her road as she can be seen putting out her bin. She’s now dead, but I sometimes look up her address just to see her.

ImthatBoleyngirl · 18/01/2026 12:27

Yes. My mum standing in her garden staring straight at the camera, which looks a bit weird, and my DH and DS coming out of the primary school at home time. In fact it was that picture of DH that convinced him to go on a diet! 🤣

Oh, I'm sorry for your loss Flowers. It might be worth taking a screenshot, as Google update Streetview from time to time and it would be sad if her comforting image was replaced.

smallglassbottle · 18/01/2026 12:33

No, but my cat was 😂

Sourisblanche · 18/01/2026 12:44

My dad outside his house, filling his green bins. Pretty much his favourite activity Smile

DizziLizzy · 18/01/2026 12:47

My aunt and cousin are in one, another of sister in Law, and also one of my DH & DS. All currently there to see. No random places either local or whilst at work. The GM car has driven past me before but never found myself.

Although they do update them from time to time you can still view all previous captures too.

It captured me pressure washing the driveway and it didn't get me at my best angle! That was several years ago now and I've moved house twice since. Also, there used to be the image of my daughter standing in her bedroom window of our flat, rather ghostly/blurry but could see it was her. Both gone from street view now, I guess it gets updated fairly regularly.

You should still be able to view it as normally the previous shots are still available.

Iamdefinitelynamechangingforthis · 18/01/2026 12:50

My grandmother was on a really early version, sitting on her doorstep chatting with a neighbour. I found myself clicking onto the site frequently after she died, just to see her (this was the satellite view one). I was sad when they updated it as she’s no longer there.

I was in our back garden on that version too which was quite strange.

Pancakeflipper · 18/01/2026 12:56

My son, sat on a neighbours wall chatting to his friend who was stood on his door step. A neighbour's cat is also sat on the wall.

It was Covid times. Their means of socialising.

UniquePinkSwan · 18/01/2026 12:57

I’m on it with DH. I knew I would be because the Google car passed us. I gave it a wave

StinkerTroll · 19/01/2026 22:37

Yep, me and my colleagues are at the window of our office waving at the Google car!

ilovepixie · 19/01/2026 22:52

My dad who passed away in 2016 is looking out the window of his old house.
My late OH is on street view coming out of our corner shop.
My niece is on it playing with her friends outside her house.
My friends late Oh is shown coming out of the train station.
My Aunt, Uncle and Cousin all outside their house.

Womaninhouse17 · 19/01/2026 22:54

I saw a friend doing some weeding in her front garden. And another friend saw the camera van approaching and waved. You can see him waving on Street View.

My Dad used to be on it by his house.

Same, but this was a long time ago and it's different now

Everybodysinthehousetonight · 19/01/2026 23:03

We spotted my FIL car parked outside his APs house.....

SingingSands · 19/01/2026 23:03

We used to be able to see FIL hanging out the washing until it updated. He died 5 years ago so sometimes I like to click back on Google maps and see him doing something so ordinary.

TheCurious0range · 19/01/2026 23:04

I used to be on there with my brother driving up to our local sorting office at the time

RedToothBrush · 19/01/2026 23:04

My friend had a close relative on Goggle street view. She used to go look at him occasionally after he died outside his house. Unfortunately they updated and he's no longer there anymore.

ikeepforgetting · 19/01/2026 23:06

I was very visible through the front window on the sofa. Having a nap. In the middle of the day. Bang to rights!

NotTerfNorCis · 20/01/2026 00:22

Yes! My dad is on it clearing the gutter outside his house. Now he's housebound. And I'm on it walking with a friend from work. We saw the Google car and waved at it.

Can she look at older images? It usually keeps them.

Okayfenokay · 20/01/2026 00:36

Yes. My mum's lovely old neighbour who died, probably, about 4 years ago. Also my very first boyfriend as I knew his address and wanted to see what his house looked like. He was standing outside it. (I'm 61)

HauntedBungalow · 20/01/2026 00:46

BIL is sticking two fingers up at it outside Betty's tearoom.
