Have you ever recognised yourself or anyone else on street view?

Just that really, I’ve just seen someone I used to know (I know the face is blurred but it was definitely them) but they died in about 2012. I didn’t know them that well but it was like seeing a ghost. Has anyone ever seen/recognised anyone or themselves?

My husband, two scootering children and I are on old version of street view from 2014. It's quite nice to have that moment walking home from school immortalised as they are both adults now and it's a nice reminder.

My car is on there, the Google car was behind us, the kids waved out of the window! It was very exciting!!

My father in law and his wife live in the middle of no where, his dw was on hanging the washing out, now its been updated he is there bringing in a parcel! What are the chances that they got caught both times!

notwittywithusernames · 17/01/2026 17:00

Caught my ex pictured at rhe door of the woman who had been getting a lot of mentioning.

Yes DH is on it at our house and SIL was on the previous version outside their place.

DH considers this his life goal complete!

My lovely much-missed cat used to be on streetview sitting on the mat outside our front door, but they've updated it fairly recently and she's not there any more.
🙁

You can access old versions on Google earth on the app.

Rocknrollstar · 17/01/2026 17:32

Colleagues said they were going to a meeting and were caught having coffee at a pavement cafe.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 17/01/2026 19:26

My SIL is on it doing the gardening

GrandTheftWalrus · 17/01/2026 19:29

I was on it walking to my old work back in about 2008. Updated now.

My dad is on it outside his house talking to his neighbour

NoYourNameChanged · 17/01/2026 19:31

There was hell up in a local village because the camera had caught a man in his sitting room enjoying some, ahem, me-time. I guess each to their own but it was right on the village square in the middle of the day 😶

rather less dramatic but my former teacher was waving on his front step with his toddler daughter which was sweet. He was thrilled apparently 😂

CrustyBread1977 · 17/01/2026 19:33

I wish they would add the precise date and time of the images, so I could figure out where I was at that time and look for myself.

HobnobsChoice · 17/01/2026 19:33

My daughter aged 2 and I were walking through the village and were waiting to cross the road. That was 10 years ago.Very clearly us! Since then I've moved house, had a son and got a dog.
When the car came round to update about 2 years ago my kids saw it and stood up to wave and so not only are the changes to my village updated but also the changes to my family. It tickles me. I hope we all get on it again next time the car comes

WirelessInternet · 17/01/2026 19:36

Yes. Both seen myself and someone I knew.

brieandcrackers · 17/01/2026 19:36

My lovely grandparents, now both departed, sat having a chat and a cuppa in their front garden. I often find myself opening it up at work just to time travel back for a moment 🙂

purplecorkheart · 17/01/2026 19:52

Yes, a family friend putting a box into his car. He was moving house at the time. He has passed away since but he was really delighted when someone showed him.

BauhausOfEliott · 17/01/2026 19:57

My nephew was visible looking out of an upstairs window of my mum’s house on a previous version of Google Street View. He’s an adult now but I think he was about 9 at the time.

LER83 · 17/01/2026 19:58

I've just looked and you can see my neighbour doing something that he claims he doesn't do which is more evidence for the police! Glad I looked!

TerrysChocolateKumquat · 18/01/2026 05:48

So many of these are really sweet! 😍the person I mentioned in my OP wasn’t someone I knew particularly well. I love the idea of PP’s loved ones being immortalised and even screenshots being taken of the pictures. I know they blur out faces (and 😂at the cats and dogs being blurred out 😂) but when it’s someone you know well you can tell it’s them from clothes/hair/stance. I hope I find someone I know well/love one day 😍
I know it’s been mentioned already but those saying images have been updated and therefore ‘yours’ lost, there is ‘see older images’: you usually have to click slightly along the road away from the point you searched for, for it to come up. The furthest they go back are 2008 I think although not everywhere, obvs.
thanks for sharing your stories on my thread 😊

One of our cats can be seen looking out of the window. I hope it doesn’t get updated, it’s a great reminder of her.

Heyhelga · 18/01/2026 06:11

Only a few local people in the beer garden of the pub of the village I grew up in, but I do love Google maps. I can sometimes get totally lost in it looking around random places.

Me too! I go to all sorts of places around the world! I love it 😍

Do you ever play OpenGuessr? I like playing that. It drops you in a random location and you have to guess where you are.

There is one of me from about 2012. I saw the car passing while standing at a bus stop. An older lady was standing with me and she didn't recognise the car or know what Street View was so I was explaining to her how to find the image later. It was originally not blurred, but later on they added the software which automatically blurs faces, numberplates etc.

You can make it go "back in time" - at the black box in the top left where it says the address, at the bottom of this box it shows the date and there is text saying "See more dates" - this allows you to choose earlier dated images. Quite fun for nosing at things like houses you used to live in!

BastardtheCat · 18/01/2026 07:45

My Dad is on street view! Even raises his hand to the car as the route is very familiar and remote to him so he knows everyone.

I’ll be sad when they eventually change it.

MiddleAgedDread · 18/01/2026 07:50

I found a friend out on a run! They’ve blurred his face but I could tell it was him from the kit and running style.

farmlass · 18/01/2026 07:56

We’re in the country and dd is going up the track in our bright coloured pickup and trailer.
Saw the google car at a roundabout recently wonder if I’m on it this time ?
