… but fuelled by the nonsense ‘research’ that MNHQ are doing Hmm

Well yes. I think MNHQ has also lost its way, tbh.

MaybeNotBob · 13/01/2026 18:36

MNHQ has always been, er , questionable politically. They were patently pro-Brexit at the time.

I feel extremely sorry for the English couple imprisoned when on a round the world motorcycle trip.

Are there westerners still in Iran? (not in jail obviously)

I don't know.

Remember that Reform proposed to return Iranian refugees to Iran.

Were they? I wasn't here then.

I don't know.

Remember that Reform proposed to return Iranian refugees to Iran.

& to pay the Taliban (who killed 457 UK soldiers) to take back men women and children.
This is also the Tory policy as they wish to deport ALL x ch migrants, no exceptions.

I was, personally they were quite harsh, i got 2 bans during that period ... but maybe i deserved them?

Can't say they were pro or anti brexit but they seemed much more on the ball with their Talk Guide lines.

Snap! Was just coming to post this:

PandoraSocks · 13/01/2026 19:21

PC/Green coalition would be interesting!

PandoraSocks · 13/01/2026 19:22

Farage said that if Reform take Wales they will be on course to win a GE.

Oops.

No not patently. It was the time of Cambridge Analytica.

Karistyleaftea · 13/01/2026 20:10

I honestly cannot fathom why people want a GÉ.
If people are all for destabilising the UK (even more so than currently ) crack on.
Really good time to go for it,
Not,

PandoraSocks · 13/01/2026 19:21

PC/Green coalition would be interesting!

That won't happen because if it does it'll be in a small opposition party with Reform at the helm. I would like to think that Wales remembers the consequences of Brexit. Most likely Plaid Cymru and Labour coalition.

I put Cymru instead of Wales - obviously an autocorrect.

Edited

What do you mean Placemats? Going by the ITV polling a PC plus Green coalition would have a majority. 56 seats out of 96. 3 more than a PC coalition with Labour.

Reform would only have 23 seats, so can't ever be at the helm with that polling.

Eta: hang do you mean Reform would be at the helm of the opposition as the biggest second party? That much is true.

tobee · 13/01/2026 20:56

Thanks for the replies re my question upthread re Iran.

Yes I did mean to post it here @placemats. I was catching up on the new thread and think you were discussing Iran yesterday? 😊

Were they? I wasn't here then.

They were more than willing to delete and ban the slightest criticism even if it was not against their "Talk Guidelines" if one of the Brexit fraternity asked them to.

I got banned for pointing out that lies were, in fact, lies...

Mandatory digital ID has been scrapped.

A new railway link between Birmingham and Manchester has been announced.

Good news from Wales! in fact fantastic!

Another U-turn, who is advising Starmer?
i'm all for ID cards, for everyone, think about the arguments for and against, construct a plan, cost it, sell it to the public... or not but once announced, bloody well stick to it based on the previous research....

This just makes him look weak.

The rail link is to be built after the Northern power house stuff, so decades away, based on how quickly we build a railway....

PandoraSocks · 14/01/2026 09:29

Morning all. The news from Iran is just terrible.

I think the whole digital ID thing should now be quietly dropped. I am not against it necessarily, but I don't think it should have been a priority in the first place. The government should have read the room better.

The lesson is: gauge the public mood before introducing policies, not after. Of course every government will have to introduce unpopular policies, but maybe don't introduce ones that the UK can currently live without.

I see Starmer is getting the blame for the Chinese embassy issue. Um, who agreed to sell the land for the embassy to the Chinese government in the first place? Hint: think blond comb-over and an indeterminate number of offspring.

DuncinToffee · 14/01/2026 09:53

Yes, sensible decision to remove the mandatory part but a bad decision to put it in in the first place.

Yes, sensible decision to remove the mandatory part but a bad decision to put it in in the first place.

Non dim people of a certain age will remember that the previous ID card scheme was originally planned such that only immigrants would be required to carry ID. The idea - sorry "idea" - being that it would be easy to spot illegal immigrants as they wouldn't have the ID card that immigrants were required to carry.

I leave it to the thread to see if they can spot any flaws in that scheme.

If an ID scheme was just a card you carry, we'd have had one for 30 years now. The problem was - and is - the gold plating that always seems to be "needed" which creates the Orwellian tool people distrust.

E2A: You can tell how thick people are when you hear them calling for more government powers. Despite clear examples from all around the world of where that inevitably ends. I suspect if challenged and forced to answer they would say "Ah, but that's OK, because this is a white government."

BIWI · 14/01/2026 10:11

Hint: think blond comb-over and an indeterminate number of offspring.

Well it can’t have been Boris because I don’t think he’s ever seen a comb in his life.
