I think it’s done well under Burnham. I like some of what he says as well - however a good mayor and a good party leader aren’t necessarily the same thing.
I also need to read up more really about his achievements and him, as these are just vague thoughts of mine so far, but I do think I might like his politics, find his work as mayor at least ok, but probably this will not outweigh my concerns over this apparent manoeuvre.
Boris was seen as fibbing to London about his mayoral role when he saw the opportunity to start the journey to PM - one of his many porkies and ‘loyalty’ issues that were relevant as it turned out, to how he’s continued to be ever since. So that is a consideration.
Could be he just wants to return to Parliament and not let this opportunity pass, but at the least the media will hammer this ‘leadership’ over and over again, not doing the party much good overall.
I’m not sure he could win an election if I’m honest whereas despite Starmer polling not so well now, if he steers a good enough path for the next 3-4 years I think he would have the better chance with the public.
Anyway, we didn’t know whether we were coming or going under the Tories and whilst Truss obviously needed to be a sharp turnaround I prefer to know who is PM for longer than my lettuces last.
