I have now seen Farage's comment

Farage 'objects politely' to Trump's NATO military comments; says 'it's not quite fair'.

Now that's what sucking up looks like. Bet he has bone spurs, too.

Notonthestairs · 23/01/2026 20:59

‘Not quite fair’ - what a lily-livered response.

PandoraSocks · 23/01/2026 21:00

For anyone who can't bear to watch the clip, this is what Farage said:

"Trump said Nato has never given anything back. I have to object to that politely. When the decision was made to go into Afghanistan we went in with America. We stayed there the whole 20 years. We proportionately spent the same amount of money and lost the same amount of lives pro-rata as did other countries like Denmark. So it is not quite fair."

countrygirl99 · 23/01/2026 21:09

Bit much to expect Charles to visit Trump when his own son saw service in Afghanistan after those comments. Perhaps that should be pointed out to corporal bonespurs.

BBC comments showing a lot of support for Starmer, less for Farage

That’s the most reassuring thing I’ve heard in days

Very much hope KC doesn't go to the US but i appreciate he will do what the Govt tell him to do.

He's elderly. If my parent was behaving like him, I would be alarmed. But his family care little about him, and Vance is laughing 😀

ETA. Would you @LittleBowSheep get into a car with him driving?

Edited

No, I wouldn't. But I would have given you the same answer 20,30,40 years ago.

The guy is elderly and recovering from cancer. Surely the government could use that as a legitimate excuse if just saying fuck you and cancelling the trip isn't diplomatic enough. I just think the optics are really bad at this stage and it will be used by Trump to bolster his own image and humiliate the UK.

Their tone is quite supportive of Starmer but no mention of what Farage has said.

Same here, my son served in Iraq half of his platoon were blown up & killed it was only sheer chance the rest of his platoon weren’t, he still carries survivor guilt, I remember driving home from work listening to the radio being reported that soldiers had been killed in I think it was Helmand Province & knowing that he was based there praying that it wasn’t him & the relief that it wasn’t his regiment but i still feel the guilt as those soldiers were someone else’s child.
For the president of America to use such awful awful disrespectful language is just so sickening I’m beyond upset today.

Trump's not worthy to even clean their boots.

MsJinks · 23/01/2026 22:43

Farage should be fuming - if we hadn’t been there we wouldn’t have offered resettlement, partly adding to strain on hotels (though not Tory mates’ pockets)
Mind if trump hadn’t set up that appalling deal to pull out then that could’ve helped everyone too.
I find his remarks beyond outrageous- does he expect KC to want to see him when his son served in Afghanistan?
Cannot imagine how people with friends/family serving feel - The callers on James O Brien made me cry - thoughts are with all who heard the comments- but do know that the U.K. and Europe, and many, many Americans - and more - have all thought on those who served, suffered, lost their lives today and those were thankful, grateful thoughts with the best of wishes today.
Orange, and a few despicable MAGAts stand very lonely on this disgusting talk.

Nigel Farage attended Davos on a pass sponsored by the family office of Iranian billionaire Sasan Ghandehari, which told the World Economic Forum that the Reform UK leader had advised the company since 2018. https://ft.trib.al/V138xDu

Farage has not yet declared such role

No end to his talents!
That family office like to donate to Reform I see as well as take Nige out and about.

Why would they pay for his ticket and accommodation?
He doesn’t like globalists.

No wonder he’s kept quiet this week.

He's a shyster.

Yes that could be used as an excuse BUT i think given Trumps comments and the WH's failure to even address them, the Govt should just say its no longer appropriate due to Trumps comments.

Enough of this pussy footing around, its not getting us anything at all.

It would also boost K. Starmers image too, instead of, as you say, Trump.

Trump and MAGA aren't going anywhere and we need to urgently move away from the USA, there is no point, Trump & his ilk will never come to our aid.

However, i was pleased to listen to a former US Marine Col (who served in Afghan) and ex Trump advisor absolutely demolish Trumps comments yesterday, a very moving tribute to NATO troops.

At least there are some decent Americans.

countrygirl99 · 24/01/2026 08:41

On second thoughts maybe Charles should go on condition Harry accompanies him, he must have loads of photos he can show him.

I think you have the mistaken understanding that the president of the United States gives a fuck about anyone except himself.

One of the reasons I'm so angry is the nonchalant way he came out with such a demonstrable lie as if it meant nothing. The insult is worse because of how he delivered it.

He will have forgotten it 30 seconds after he said it and then deny he said it. This cannot and should not be swept under the carpet.

I saw a few comments that were very critical. More tellingly they were massively upvoted (as were the comments saying Starmer had done well).

Curious there's no petition to parliament.

You could start one Jane. I am sure it would get loads of support!

I refuse to believe there are not people out there who are not more capable and connected that are not more cross than I am.

Besides I gave up on petitions when one with six million signatures disappeared into the dark night with no ceremony.
