I know we shouldn't expect better from Fox but it does mean that large parts of the US will be quite unaware of how they are perceived elsewhere.

Fuck 'em.

LittleBowSheep · 23/01/2026 15:16

I'm ex-Forces although from a long time before Iraq/Afghanistan. I'm utterly disgusted by Trump's remarks. I honestly didn't think he could sink any lower in my estimation but he has managed to prove me wrong.

Notonthestairs · 23/01/2026 15:49

I suppose Trump’s purpose is to diminish NATO for Fox viewers.
Part of their ongoing campaign to demean its partners.

i hope the UK government have thought long and hard about Carney’s speech.

The veil of supposed mutual interests and respect hasn’t been lifted so much as chucked on the ground and set alight.

Without NATO, America is just another world power. Like Britain.

Im Watching this all unfold with my chin on the floor.

Farage’s silence - expeceted

Badenochs flip flopping between support and criticism as the wind changes - expected.

Trumps constant escalating the situation and spouting pure bollocks in the world stage - also expected
big even then he’s just outdoing himself every day.

I listened to his Peace board speech yesterday and was flabbergasted by his ramblings.

But today’s escalation to is not supporting on the front line 😱

He cannot be cognitively well? He cannot truely believe what he’s saying and be firing on all cylinders?

It’s utterly terrifying in some ways and I don’t think he’s going to go silent anytime soon. In fear I fear he’s only going to get worse

None of this should be a surprise. It was all widely anticipated in some form.

At least it seems to have burned some of the more egregious posts and posters off the stage.

LittleBowSheep · 23/01/2026 17:08

I don't think he's unwell. I think he knows exactly what he's doing and is just ramping it up as each day goes by. In fact, I think he's probably laughing at the rest of the world as he throws a grenade and watches the fallout.

DuncinToffee · 23/01/2026 17:14

And Putin is laughing alongside him

It's worth knowing the difference between an operational win and a strategic loss.

Anything Trump is gaining is merely operational. (Because it works for him).

I am struck by friend of the thread Sarah Paine. noting that Pearl Harbour was probably one of the most complete and emphatic operational wins of the 20th century. Flawless in planning and execution.

I couldn't watch to the end, I had something in my eye.

Same here, my son served in Iraq half of his platoon were blown up & killed it was only sheer chance the rest of his platoon weren’t, he still carries survivor guilt, I remember driving home from work listening to the radio being reported that soldiers had been killed in I think it was Helmand Province & knowing that he was based there praying that it wasn’t him & the relief that it wasn’t his regiment but i still feel the guilt as those soldiers were someone else’s child.
For the president of America to use such awful awful disrespectful language is just so sickening I’m beyond upset today.

LlttledrummergirI · 23/01/2026 19:00

I know that feeling from when my ddad was in the Falklands. When the Chaplin and senior officers appear on your road, even as a child you knew what that meant. The relief when they go to someone else's house, then the guilt about the relief.

Trump is a fuckhead who has burnt his bridges. If America goes to war, any politicians in this country that support them can fuck right off. America is a backstabbing, treacherous, arrogant, weak, pathetic country run by a cowardly piece of shit. That no-one will stand up to him and hold him accountable in that country kind of proves the point.

Impeach the fucker and get rid or be forever remembered as treacherous scum.

He's elderly. If my parent was behaving like him, I would be alarmed. But his family care little about him, and Vance is laughing 😀

ETA. Would you @LittleBowSheep get into a car with him driving?

LlttledrummergirI · 23/01/2026 19:03

In case it's not obvious, I'm fucking raging.

PandoraSocks · 23/01/2026 19:06

At the risk of being jeered at and called a starry-eyed fan-girl by lurkers, I am really glad Starmer has spoken in the way he has. Trump is very much less than filth on the bottom of Starmer's shoe.

💐 to all of you on this thread who have served or whose family members have served.

Hear hear!

Beyond incensed at Trumps remarks and i'm afraid i don't think Starmer has been harsh enough on Trump nor was quick enough, it took until later this afternoon to hear from him personally.

Special Relationship? Security & Defence partnership? all dead in the water, the USA is totally at odds with UK and Europe.

DuncinToffee · 23/01/2026 19:16

I am with you on Starmer.

He couldn't exactly tell Trump to piss off as UK PM

Leave that to MP's and Davey.

ETA there is still Ukraine to consider

I am from a forces family.
Anger does not touch the sides of what I'm feeling now. Trump and everyone who enables him, voted for him and refuses to stand up to him can FTFSOFOAFOSM.

Edited

Trump isn't supplying weapons for Ukraine, we buy them... Trumps stops Ukraine from having and using longer range missile systems but in effect encourages Putin to do what he likes to Ukraine, he never condemns Putins strikes on Ukraine power plants...

Trump could stop the strikes if he wanted too, by supplying them with more anti missile systems.

He could stop selling Europe weapons... because he woke up and wanted too, look how he treated Zelenskyy?

Not being stronger on Trump is not helping Ukraine, in fact the exact opposite.

DuncinToffee · 23/01/2026 20:02

I don't disagree with that, I just disagree with you on how Starmer is handling Trump.

You’re not alone. My bloke put his life on the line in the Falklands and twice in Northern Ireland. There’s a lot of anger against Trump in this house tonight.

Seconded

DuncinToffee · 23/01/2026 20:20

According to the Telegraph, Starmer is pulling the Chagos bill.

Only read the headline, so no idea of details but something to do with the 1966 US?UK treaty

That should cheer up Bafenoch and Farage

I have now seen Farage's comment
