How are you spending New Years Day?

It’s a quiet chilled day in our house. I’m still in my pj’s having a cuddle with my 5 month old granddaughter who stayed over last night while DS and DIL went out.
DD21 was out last night and stayed with friends, she text this morning to say she’ll be home soon so at least I know she’s ok.
DD19 is getting ready for work, DH is eating bacon sandwiches and youngest DD is in her room on the phone to her best friend.
I’m thinking of taking the tree and decs down today as I’m back at work tomorrow, will take DGD home around tea time then it’ll be a
shower and a night in front of the tv with DH.
What are you all doing today?

I’m in Stockholm for another 3 days but most things shut today so am now in the bath in very nice hotel awaiting a Thai take away and have read half a book today

JM88Jen · 01/01/2026 17:31

Our teens slept in until midday so we just watched a film with our youngest two and had a quiet start to the day.
I went for a 30 min walk whilst partner made a roast dinner (no one else wanted to go out so I grabbed my chance as he is back to work tomorrow)
Had food, the leftover desserts and played Monopoly. Everyone is doing their own thing now whilst football is on the TV.
Probably get PJ's on soon - looking forward to a glass of wine and the new Traitors tonight!

Built and installed a display board for DS’s Lego cars/flowers/dinosaurs in his flat.
That cleared enough space in the flat that he agreed to take his massive Lego crane that’s been taking up space at our house since he got it two years ago (built it over a couple of days then realised it wouldn’t fit in his student digs). I hope his girlfriend is as pleased as we are with the new Lego shrine.

Watching the leak in my kitchen ceiling get ever bigger and emptying the buckets underneath at regular intervals! Not how I planned the day to be. (I'm with a housing association and apparently it's not an emergency unless the ceiling falls down!).

I'm feeling really fed up as its been a tough year, I've had very little leave from work (as its unpaid) and this was meant to be a nice break.

Aside from that I did some embroidery and added some new clothes I got in the sales to my closet app!

Judgejudysno1fan · 01/01/2026 17:36

Had an organise of the spare room, and dug around to find new/second hand clothes from previous daughter for our new baby due in May.
Had a nice lunch.
Kids pitched in with chores. I bleached the bathroom to an inch of its life and scrubbed the toilet.
Now making roast potatoes, roast chicken, mash and Yorkshire puddings. Sadly no veg as somehow milk dropped into the bag and its gone all slimy. And I cant be bothered to get 5 children ready for the shop just for a pack of veg.
Got a large bar of galaxy and donuts for after.
Just waiting on the hunkiest man in the world to get home. Thats my husband BTW.

I am at my mom and dad's - dad is really poorly and bascially we are waiting for him to pass. Fortunate to have lots of support with carers coming in etc, so hopefully he will be able to stay at home till the end.

My daughter is with her dad, tho coming back tomorrow night. My lovely FWB is kindly staying in our flat tonight to look after the cat.....

it was nearly 12 before i got up with ds (11) & my other 2 didn’t surface until 1.30 but we were up til 2.30 am! Ate some more
craxkers & cheese & last of the shortbread, i opened the bucks fizz then prepped and made an early (for us) dinner. Steak pie as we’re Scottish with a mushroom one for me and dd who is veggie.

now all lazying and watching tv or playing. Got sticky toffee pudding & ice cream i’ll make about 7 then an earlyish night as we’re all shattered despite the lie ins! Going to get up a earlier tomorrow and go for a drive / coast walk then home for some home made soup and crusty bread! Then tiramisu another early night before the boring bits start. Saturday will take tree down and clean living room. Sundsy out for breakfast the showers, uniform etc ironed and early night all ready for Monday.

right now i’m debating a nap! Will be in bed after eastenders i think

11.20pm went to the cash point cleared my account out, got in and opened my package, that ive had sitting since november, its a money box pig huge one no way in, put all money init.

Woke thismorning and ready to save hard in my new pig ive called prince pig.
Only buy what i need pay bills do shopping, £20 only in my bag as ready cash only.
Clear account out when everything is paid.
Also had a clear out de clutter and found about £2 in pennies and other change laying in draws and old bags, it went in the pig.

I done this a few years back and saved almost 5k in my last pig.
Feeling really good about this year.

I went to the supermarket to see if there were any post-New-Year bargains in the ready-made party food line to add to what I already have for a family celebration on Saturday... There really weren't, but I picked up some cheese and some vegetable spring rolls, plus some whole grain mustard for the honey glazed cocktail sausages I needed to do.

Came home and made the first step in the sherry trifle for Saturday, and prepared and cooked the glazed cocktail sausages.

Had lunch

Went to bed and to sleep for 2 hours... Not hungover unfortunately, I have long-term illness that makes me very tired.

Currently watching a George Clarke programme on telly while looking at Mumsnet. DH will be making our evening meal, which will be spaghetti Bolognese with the Bolognese sauce from the batch I made yesterday.

After that, more telly, then bed.

mindutopia · 01/01/2026 18:23

I was up at 6am for a moorland walk and saw the sunrise. Then tidied the house and got rid of the Christmas tree. We had lunch (cheese and biscuits, mostly). Then took the dog for an afternoon walk and dc rode their bikes around on the forest track. Now cooking our traditional new year’s dinner of treacle ham, cauliflower cheese and cabbage. Dh and ds are going away tomorrow so they are packing up to leave in the morning.

TimeToThrive · 01/01/2026 18:37

Lazy morning. Out at 1pm for a walk in the fresh air and a play in the park with the kids.
home just before 5. Dh played some Mario with the kids while I cooked dinner. Steak pie and mash/roasties and veg. Dh currently washing up while I lie on the couch, kids have Netflix on. Pudding will be chocolate Swiss roll and custard later on and watch traitors. Younger two will go to bed earlier tonight as we all stayed up late last night for the bells.

blackheartsgirl · 01/01/2026 18:42

Had 3 dgchilds here last night so their parents could go out, the 6 month old was ill so I’ve been awake all night, they’ve gone home now though
I’ve just had a2 hour nap and now I’m about to eat a roast dinner.

Ive kind of written today off, I I did plan a walk but im too tired and it’s freezing cold, rainy and windy so I’ll just have a bath after my dinner and go back to bed.

Allseeingallknowing · 01/01/2026 18:43

Clearing out a cupboard, to make room for new saucepans. Wish I’d never started, it was like the Tardis!

troppibambini6 · 01/01/2026 19:15

At a dog show!

Redcabbagefarts · 01/01/2026 21:18

We had a chilled morning, then drove to the beach for a walk and a spot of seal watching. Came home and ate a baked camembert with hot crusty bread and pigs in blankets. Watched another Christmas movie 👍

champagneplanet · 01/01/2026 21:27

Had a lie in, made a fantastic lamb roast and had DM and MIL round for lunch. Walked DDog, it was cold but fresh. DH has been watching the darts/football. DDs are playing nicely for once and i’m having a nice long soak in the bath. Might even start a book later.

bumphousebump · 01/01/2026 21:32

5k walk with dog. DH has a cold So left him at home. Got a coffee and watched NYD dippers. Pottered for the afternoon. Had family round for tea.

Daisy54 · 01/01/2026 21:40

Taught classes all morning, then worked out at the gym. Had a nap after lunch.
Prepared class choreography for tomorrow’s sessions.

MrsSPenguins · 01/01/2026 21:41

Celebrated NY all 4 of us together with champagne and canapes.

Got woken by cat at 5.30am for tuna then at 10.30am to get everyone up. Jumped on headboard then poked with the big white fluffy paw. Then let the silkies out to wander garden.

Lunch had greek yoghurt with a mango and then we had a slice of red velvet cake. Then went swimming, did 107 lengths went to steam room and jacuzzi and chatted to a regular lady there. Came back had a bath and then have just had steak and red wine pie with potatoes, carrots and cabbage and a cinnamon bun and some cherries and just finishing the champagne.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 02/01/2026 20:22

I didn't get home from work until 6.30am, slept till 1pm, then started drifting off again at 8.30pm. Didn't do anything except watch my friend on Twitch.
