How are you spending New Years Day?

It’s a quiet chilled day in our house. I’m still in my pj’s having a cuddle with my 5 month old granddaughter who stayed over last night while DS and DIL went out.
DD21 was out last night and stayed with friends, she text this morning to say she’ll be home soon so at least I know she’s ok.
DD19 is getting ready for work, DH is eating bacon sandwiches and youngest DD is in her room on the phone to her best friend.
I’m thinking of taking the tree and decs down today as I’m back at work tomorrow, will take DGD home around tea time then it’ll be a
shower and a night in front of the tv with DH.
What are you all doing today?

Put all the Christmas stuff away this morning and a bit of cleaning/hoovering. Ds is playing Xbox, dd making a Lego set. Will have a bath in a bit then will make turkey curry for tea (froze the leftovers) and dh and ds will watch the footie.

Cheersmedears123 · 01/01/2026 14:41

I’m nursing a hangover on the sofa. Went to a great party last night and it’s wiped me out! Managed to sort a bit of lunch for PIL for when they dropped DS home, but now we’re snoozing/resting in front of the fire. I might treat us to a takeaway later if I have the energy to go and get it, and we’ll watch Stranger Things!

HalfasleepChrisintheMorning · 01/01/2026 14:41

Driving from London to Yorkshire- we were supposed to go home tomorrow but were a bit worried about the weather.
Looking forward to 3 cosy days at home before normal life resumes.

Chipsahoy · 01/01/2026 14:44

Snow falling hard here, we were going to have a big dinner but as I think we will be snowed in, I may need to stretch supplies further so thinking maybe pancakes for dinner. We fortunately have plenty of eggs as we have chickens.
We are watching the snow fall and playing card games otherwise. Lovely.

SusanSHelit · 01/01/2026 14:45

Recovering from my cousins wedding yesterday and getting ready for work tonight! I'm not sure I'll be either use or ornament tonight to be quite frank 😅

Hpwitdo · 01/01/2026 14:46

On the sofa in pj's and dressing gown. Ive not had a day of not getting dressed for a very long time. Im hungover, watching the darts and drinking a lot of coffee. Going for a deep hot bath soon
Might try to get the tree down later. More coffee to come. A very lazy day. Absolute bliss

rc22 · 01/01/2026 14:47

Had a lie in. Had breakfast and several cups of tea in front of the TV this morning. Had a shower. Done some planning for work next week (teacher.) Currently having another cup of tea before DH and I head off to collect my parents to go to my brother's for a meal and the evening.

pinkblueyelloworange · 01/01/2026 14:47

Been to work and it was a lovely shift

DrMadelineMaxwell · 01/01/2026 14:52

Had a very late night (for me) so a lie in until 10. Then I've taken the tree down and done some sorting/tidying.

I'm out for tea with a friend later, so will spend the day watching Stranger Things and other stuff before then. The DDs (adult) are both crafting/reading/talking to friends on the phone in their rooms.

AgnesMcDoo · 01/01/2026 14:52

Hangover
walk
roast beef dinner with lots of family

haggisaggis · 01/01/2026 14:56

Did the New Year dook in the harbour and now lazing on the sofa under a heated blanket until we go out for dinner later. Very chilled.

Fatmumslim01 · 01/01/2026 14:57

Lovely cosy day here, it's freezing and windy so the heating has been on all day which is a real treat!

We've all been pottering about today, lovely and calm, DC are playing/watching TV/ reading. I'm about to pop out to post some vinted parcels and also want to get a few bags ready to take to the charity shop tomorrow.

Roast chicken dinner later, I've just popped a chocolate pudding in the slow cooker aswell, still got cream from Christmas to use up so will have that with pud. I'm actually on mounjaro so not sure how much I'll be eating though!

Really hoping for a long hot bath tonight possibly with a glass of wine and an early night. Simple pleasures 🙂

MyCatTibby · 01/01/2026 14:59

Had a lie in until half nine, poached eggs on toast for breakfast. Tree and decs taken down. About to cook a lamb roast. Scrolling in MN, reading and watching telly in between. Copious amounts of tea and footy on the telly later.

AliasGrape · 01/01/2026 14:59

Very lazy. Wed planned to go out for a walk at a national trust place or similar, but DD was not quite herself yesterday, slept in till gone 9 (6.30 is usually a lie in where she is concerned so this is unheard of) and clearly isn't 100% today either so we’ve just had a snuggling on the sofa kind of day.

I don’t feel great actually, did have some drinks last night but not enough to make me feel terrible, don’t know if I’m also coming down with something or I’m just knackered - it’s been a really busy Christmas holiday and I’ve done a lot of hosting, and to be fair the whole of December (if not the previous few months) has been quite hectic and DD’s sleep has been terrible since at least the start of the month so maybe it’s all catching up.

We had a cooked breakfast/ brunch. Had a roast dinner planned but might put that off till the weekend and just do the last of the cheese, pate, crackers etc tonight, maybe with a bit of home made tomato soup as for some reason we’ve got about 4 boxes of cherry tomatoes to use up. Going to watch a film this evening - someone recommended The Holdovers so probably that.

whatohwhattodo · 01/01/2026 15:01

Tidying ready for cleaner tomorrow. Meant to go for a walk but not quite managed it yet. Then I need to collect oldest from
work later so will probably grab a bit of supermarket shopping when I do that.

EsmeeMerlin · 01/01/2026 15:03

I did not wake up until half 12! We did not even go out last night, just watched lord of the rings and went to bed after watching the fireworks on TV.

Went for a 5 mile walk to blow the cobwebs out and now on sofa watching pirates of the Caribbean. Ds2 is on his Nintendo, ds1 is upstairs. Roast this afternoon and the second lord of the rings film.

EllaPaella · 01/01/2026 15:07

Been for a dip in the sea this morning and had coffee on the beach afterwards with friends.
Just taken the decorations down as we’re going on holiday tomorrow. Now on the sofa reading/doom scrolling in between tackling a load of washing and changing bedding etc.
Going to make a chicken and ham pie for tea with leftover ham from boxing day. Nothing exciting but that’s fine as I’m well and truly into the doing nothing vibe now 😁

ThereIsATInWater · 01/01/2026 13:55

Lazing in a bath reading my phone.
DH watching darts downstairs , then football later I believe.
DS in his room, appearing periodically for food.

Taken christmas stuff down, hoovered and put a wash on this morning.

Debating what to do for dinner. Maybe just tomato pasta.

Hoovering on New Years Day brings bad luck apparently.

Hoovering on New Years Day brings bad luck apparently.

What great news, I now have an excuse not to!

FlatWhiteExtraHot · 01/01/2026 15:14

Lazing on the sofa in my oodie watching darts with the dogs. Went to bed at 10.30 last night so no excuses, I’m just lazy 😂.

DS has gone to work and DD/DSIL aren’t home yet so the house is lovely and quiet. DH is cleaning the car for some unknown reason - he’s mad, it’s bloody freezing!

Gliblet · 01/01/2026 15:15

I'm up and showered but have then put on clean pj's and spent most of the afternoon so far trying to master a new (to me) casting on method for knitting. DS13 is gaming, DH has a friend over for what is ostensibly a shared hobby but is basically a playdate 🤣 I'm currently mentally inventorying what's in the fridge and trying to think what I can make for dinner that allows room for pudding afterwards (half price yule log).

Apparently shouldn't do laundry either, if you believe that stuff.
But hey ho, need doing

Bobbedhairdontcare · 01/01/2026 15:19

Had a lie in then showered. Made cheese on toast in the air fryer, somehow tastes better than grilled. Watching some home renovation program from USA they make it look so easy. Wish they would fly over and sort out my gaff.

ChevyCamaro · 01/01/2026 15:24

Same as half of West Yorkshire: walk in the Dales then curry house later. I think it’s traditional where I’m from!

Where is it snowing?
I’m in Scotland. Went for a swim with pals this morning, I got there early and lit a fire. Home to unblock the sink, then clean kitchen floor (I had to empty U- bend 🤢)
Wheelbarrowed in logs and filled log store, lit stoves make and eat lentil soup and now on sofa enjoying the view.
Happy New Year’s everyone!
