How are you spending New Years Day?

It’s a quiet chilled day in our house. I’m still in my pj’s having a cuddle with my 5 month old granddaughter who stayed over last night while DS and DIL went out.
DD21 was out last night and stayed with friends, she text this morning to say she’ll be home soon so at least I know she’s ok.
DD19 is getting ready for work, DH is eating bacon sandwiches and youngest DD is in her room on the phone to her best friend.
I’m thinking of taking the tree and decs down today as I’m back at work tomorrow, will take DGD home around tea time then it’ll be a
shower and a night in front of the tv with DH.

It's early morning here. I'm spending time right now lazing in bed with the dog, scrolling MN and waiting for the Rose Parade to start. Once it's over I'm getting up and putting Christmas away.

Putting them away is going to be interesting. I'm in a new flat and my decs have been stealthily removed bit by bit from the marital home over the last 2 months when estranged DH (still very dear, it's a long story) has been out of the house. I removed them and put them up here as soon as I took them, so I have no idea where I'm going to store them.

Just hanging out, watching a bit of tv and waiting for husband to make a roast. Might oil the fireplace later

In bed with worst jet lag ever!

Pottering. Had an early night reading in bed, although heard the fireworks etc going off at midnight.

I've currently got a hair mask on my hair and I'm doing little. DH is peeling potatoes, I'm going to do steak pie for dinner. DS was out for night and isn't home yet.

DS(6) woke up at his usual time this morning which, combined with a late night and half a bottle of champagne, has meant that I’ve not really done much at all. I did pop out to the shops as realised we had nothing for dinner and to blow away some of the cobwebs. DS is still in his pyjamas, he spent all morning making a lego model and drawing and he’s now playing on the Nintendo Switch for a bit. DH has disappeared somewhere, maybe the study, so I’m lying on the sofa, pretending to be interested in what DS is playing.

I did a jog and weights. Put on a wash, tidied up, popped to the shops to buy Charlie Bingham meals for tea. Watching my football team play now under a blanket with a coffee. Feeling so grateful for where I am at the start of this year compared to last. Enjoying the balance I have achieved in my life. No doubt will not feel like this once back at work and kids back at school, but right now it all feels so peaceful

Cosy day after NYE celebrations in a local city including fireworks at midnight over the river.

First day of ‘just us’ as all guests gave gone.

Log burner on, candles, tv, Christmas lights twinkling. Lots of bits of food, mug of hot chocolate, sweets from our overfilled Christmas cupboards and fridge.

The perfect, cosy day.

Went to a Cumbrian village that has a mill converted to a cafe and had tea and soup before having a wander by the river .

Happy new year. We went out to the local. Had lots to drink, but DP is full of cold so came home before midnight and had a pizza.

fractured sleep so lazy day. Has sausage and egg for breakfast. Now cooking steak pie.

i have been watching tv and DP is playing games on his laptop. He is watching football later avc I am taking down the decorations. Then it pudding and stranger things.

Had a lie in then got up and had a coffee and almond croissant and caught up with the soaps
Once Dh was up we took the dog for a walk then came back and did some tidying
Dd was working until the early hours so she didn’t get up until about 1.00 pm made her a tea and pain au chocolate.She’s going to her boyfriends and they are having a takeaway she’ll stay overnight
Dh has just took his car to the car wash and I'm having a baileys coffee whilst snuggled up with dog
We are having bacon sausage beans egg mushrooms and sourdough toast for tea and will watch some tv or a film
I’m back at work tomorrow after 10 days off so early night for me tonight

The 'highlights reel' version is a chilled morning at home, a nice family walk/scoot and a roast dinner to use up the last of the pigs in blankets and roast potatoes. The reality is battling endless tantrums from my toddler for whom everything in the world is wrong today. All the Christmas excitement has got too much and we need some routine back again it appears!

I was up early for work, it was a bit of a manic shift and I finished an hour late.

I'm going to have some left over Chinese now and watch All Creatures with dd, then later Stranger Things with ds.

I’m having a recovery day as I had a migraine yesterday which was really bad. I have eaten something now and I’m laying on the sofa in the dark with the tree lights on. DH is doing some work on his work project because he loves it so much.

We had a really lazy morning, stayed in bed until late and watched movies. DC and I made breakfast in bed for my DP. Christmas has been so busy and hectic we all really needed a lazy day.

We’ve all showered/bathed, put some clean pyjamas on and have been snacking on the remainder of the Christmas food.

DP is cooking sausage and fennel pasta with a gargantuan french stick to accompany it which I’m pretty excited about and the the children have picked out ‘UP’ to watch this evening.

We had family over for a Hogmanay Party. Got up late, DH made brunch for 10, went for a walk along the river, family left. DD has promised to make tea so I'm reading on the sofa. Only one visitor left now, he leaves on Sunday.

Was woken up by DD1 coming home. We had a long chat about her heartbreak she can’t seem to get over. DP woke up and made us bacon sarnies. Had a little sleep on the sofa after some indoor plant care. My lovely friend popped in with her lovely dogs to moan about her DP! Got a roast on and tried to lay the table all fancy and realised DD2 has every glass in the house in her room…

We had a lie in today. DCs stayed up to watch stranger things “live”. DH and I just exhausted. He made us all breakfast rolls then we met with family and did a big walk with the dogs.

In NE Scotland and is bitterly cold. We had a 10 minute spell of heavy snow but not lying on roads now.

Steak pie at parents and now home to just relax. DH and DS playing a boards game, DD upstairs watching something on her laptop. Me, DDog and 1 DCat half snoozing on sofa.

Looking forward to the Night Manager later.

We started with pot of tea and breakfast in bed, we've been on two walks, had a veg and lentil curry for lunch, and will have a veg and bean bake for dinner. Had a long soak in bath with a face mask while DH cooks. Feels like a great start to the new year!

I went on a 5km walk with my partner a few hours ago and now I’m watching The Sound of Music.

We've just taken toddler to visit family today. Nothing exciting.
Feeling very tired as fireworks kept me awake until after 12.30am (I'm a terrible sleeper anyway) and toddler was up at 7am. I haven't had much sleep the past few nights so feel quite groggy, but at least we've been out of the house today and I didn't have to make lunch! My family also sent us home with some nice 🍫 which is always welcome 😀

I've put lots of reminders in the calendar for local events over 2026 so we feel like we've got things to look forward to!

Went on a lovely long walk a few villages over before coffee and cake in a cafe, but now stealing @Berlinlover's idea and tuning in for the ending of SoM

Pretty good overall and feeling so pleased for dry weather this week in our area
