(Answer, then ask your own one)

In your house, do you still have bowls of pot pourri?

OP posts:
clary · 28/12/2025 11:00

OK updating
Yes I have a laptop - is that old? I have two (one is my work one) DH has two (one is old), DD and DS2 each have one (for uni work as much as anything).

I don't get bank statements but DH still does for some reason. No bank statements on paper is soooo liberating.

We have a CD player and DVDs (play on the xBox). Many many actual books (I read in the bath and wouldn't do that on a Kindle). Tho I do try to get rid now if I think no one else will read it and I won't reread.

Still go the tree up – went up 18 Dec, decorated by DD 21 Dec, comes down on 12th night (5 Jan).

I still have an address book actually but not sure why. Tho I did check DB's address in it before sending a parcel.

No washing up bowl
No feature wall (never had one!)
No small DC
Yes to fresh flowers _ for Christmas anyway

Oooh edit - YY to sewing box, use it all the time. I also have a sewing machine which is almost an antique – I got it for my 13th birthday but it still works so

Do you still use paper towels?

PixellatedPixie · 28/12/2025 12:05

I still use paper towels but try to use washable cloths where possible to cut down on paper waste. I’ve never understood people who still have CDs as you can now get everything on a Spotify account and save so much space! I do miss cover art and music videos though!

Does anyone still have furniture polish or shoe polish? I use shoe polish about once a year when my kids get told by school they have to spruce up for the final awards ceremony.

RobinTheCavewoman · 28/12/2025 12:06

No furniture polish but old shoe polish that gets used very very occasionally.

Does anyone still have a mug tree?

RescueMeFromThisSilliness · 28/12/2025 12:10

Yes, we have a mug tree, wouldn't be without it.

Do you still have a nest of tables?

Gliblet · 28/12/2025 12:12

Considering the tininess of our house, it's slightly terrifying that we have:
Drawer of doom, Laptop, CD player, Sewing box, DVDs, CDs, Books (so many books), PC, Shoe Polish, Furniture Polish (spray and beeswax), Washing up bowl.

No paper diary but I do have a paper address book, and a paper recipe book (handwritten).

No landline phone, cheque book, chip pan, mug tree, nest of tables or record player though.

Anyone still use a cork noticeboard instead of reminders on their phone/Alexa?

tinyspiny · 28/12/2025 12:14

Do you have a Ukulele?

OP posts:
CaptainSevenofNine · 28/12/2025 12:39

No landline, no pot poured, no toastie maker, no paper address book.

Yes to house guests, CDs, CD player, DVDs and DVD player, hundreds of printed books (and a special app to catalogue them!)
Yes to paper bank statements (but work, not mine!)

clary · 28/12/2025 12:48

We have a piano.
Also two clarinets, a trumpet, a guitar and a ukulele. Only the better clarinet is still played tho.

I like the piano and the other instruments may yet be picked up again.

What is wrong with laptops? I couldn't teach over Zoom on a tablet.

We still have a wall calendar- anyone else?

Oldandgreyer · 28/12/2025 12:51

Have sandwich toaster and used it on Boxing day for a turkey sandwich.

Have a landline but digital.

Have no records, no record player. Some tapes and there might be a tape player somewhere.

Do you have a laminator (if you're not a teacher?) ?

Do you have house plants?

NinePoppadomsAndASaagAloo · 28/12/2025 12:57

I had a laminator (not a teacher) but I’ve given it away.

i have houseplants.

do you still have any hand-me-down furniture you were given when you first left home?

No hand me down furniture.

Do you have a snow globe?

IndependentAdjudicator · 28/12/2025 13:03

@clary
Yes to wall calendar (and so weird as I literally just got it out to have a look at it!)

Pic attached. Complete with photo bombing pooch 🙄

Do you have a photo bombing pet?

Let's play the 'Do you still have...' game.
OP posts:
IndependentAdjudicator · 28/12/2025 13:10

Yes two laminators (also not a teacher)

Yes to houseplants (too many!)

Yes to snow globe. DC2 asked for one for Christmas one year.

Yes to hand me down furniture.
In Youngest DC's room there is a beautiful mid century chest of drawers made by Stag Furniture, it's the C range.
It is coveted by all of us but it fits nicely in that room!

IndependentAdjudicator · 28/12/2025 13:12

Do you still have any festive snacks (chocolates, biscuits, cheesey footballs??)?

OP posts:
KnickerlessParsons · 28/12/2025 13:16

Loads of hand me down furniture - it’s G-Plan so back in fashion now.
No wall calendar
No snow globes
Lots of houseplants
Never had a laminator
Loads of festive snacks left, probably because we concentrated on eating up the snacks left over from last year!

IndependentAdjudicator · 28/12/2025 13:21

Pssst @KnickerlessParsons < your turn to ask! > 😉

Filler question - do you have a genuine antique item?

Yes, a 14th century parchment with plainsong chant on it. From my mad godmother, christ alone knows where she got it. Verified by Christies, my sister took both of ours in. I love my godmother.

A deceased living creature in a box?

Gliblet · 28/12/2025 13:24

Fair bit of hand me down furniture, two guitars (and two accordions), wall calendar yes, laminator yes (because DH might need to laminate something, apparently...), many houseplants. No piano, no snow globes, but lots of cheez-its, chocolates and a whole panettone left.

Do you have one of those little teabag limbo dishes to avoid the apparent cardinal sin of putting a hot teabag straight in the bin?

Gliblet · 28/12/2025 13:29

Yeses to both - and almost in the same item. Genuine antique is a mourning locket containing a lock of Edward IV's hair. We also have what is affectionately known as the fugly jug - might be genuine C17 slipware, might just have been knocked up in someone's shed in the 70s 😁

We also have a taxidermied rhinoceros beetle.

Edited

I have a ukulele, inspired by the Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain. (UOGB).

I must try playing it some time.

Yes I have a teabag-limbo laminated dish. But I inherited it is my excuse.

clary · 28/12/2025 13:35

Interesting antiques! I have a number of items from the early 20th century inc a chest of drawers and a bureau. Also a glass bowl that was my mum’s so is probably 80+ years old.

Do you still have analogue clocks? We have one in the kitchen and two in our bedroom (I mean alarm clocks but still analogue).

CrystalSingerFan · 28/12/2025 13:40

I have antique (pre C20) books!

Do people have art on their walls that they made themselves?
