Better or worse than you expected?

Mine has been nice, thought it would be sad due to some circumstances, but on the whole it's been pretty good.

A nice day, my other half only got slightly pissed instead of the wankered level from last year, so that’s an improvement. He struggles with drink but has been really trying for the last few months, today was understandable and I’m proud he took it slow for him!
Our 3yo loved the day and was v spoilt, she crashed out at bedtime so I’m hoping her Xmas pressie to me is a night of sleeping through!!

cadburyegg · 25/12/2025 21:50

Better than expected.

DS7 didn’t wake me until 6.30
Kids barely argued all day and loved their presents. DS10 not upset about not getting a smartphone
Kids let me have an hour snooze on the sofa
My mum was fab and lovely as always, organised a couple of presents from the kids, and brought a lovely trifle and Yule log as always
Managed to tolerate exh for an hour

Now watching love actually with a snowball and going to bed soon.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 25/12/2025 21:54

I was at work, so much busier than I expected! Bit of a nightmare so glad it’s over!

Christmas dinner tomorrow for us. I’m not a fan of Christmas anyway so will just be glad when it’s over and everything goes back to normal!

WearyAuldWumman · 25/12/2025 21:56

Quiet. I'm glad to have got through it.

EveryDayisFriday · 25/12/2025 21:59

Lovely chilled out day. We don't do forced fun and we're quite low key as a family including Teen DDs.

Coffee in bed, showered and downstairs for sausage butties around 10am.

Gift opening, drinks and snacks and chilling out for a few hours. The teen DDs got what they asked for on their lists so no disappointment. DH and I don't do gifts, we have plenty of stuff.

I had a fab walk with the dog in the beautiful sun with a funny podcast after a few bucks fizzs.

We walked around to Mums for a few hours before picking up the Indian takeaway chosen by DD1 and DH. DD2 and I had rump steaks at home.

More drinks and some Xmas shows, (first dates and the dog house) and we're heading up to our freshly made beds shortly.

It's been a relaxed easy day. Tomorrow is visiting the ILs so a bit busier.

We've had so many stressful and disappointing Xmas days in the past, eating a Turkey dinner just because even though no one really wanted it and lots of poorly received gifts which are a complete waste of money.

CoastalCalm · 25/12/2025 22:03

Pretty shit - literally
Stoma bag was emptying fluids all night and finally exploded around 6am all over a new muslin blanket I’d literally opened from my best mate before bed.

Stripped bed , had a bath and washed hair etc and went downstairs to find that BIL hadn’t been arsed to go to the guest room and was sleeping off his drink on my sofa rendering the room inaccessible to open Christmas gifts and get to my medication.

Feeling unwell managed to ferry people to restaurant for lunch but after starter it was obvious to all I was better off at home after being sick so mains were packed to go. Had a cry in the restaurant as felt really unwell , thought I’d ruined everyone’s day and really missing my Dad

Got back to mums and went straight to lie down for a bit , awful cramps in legs and hands from dehydration but got up and joined rest of family who had arrived for tea. Lasted til 9 getting increasingly tired and irritated by drunk DH and BIL so called time got home and BIL knocked a full old fashioned all over my pouffe - now in bed after telling him to get every drop and inch of the pouffe cleaned and now watching culinary masters on Netflix in new bedding and my elderly dog cuddled in , this has been the best part of the day 😂

CoastalCalm · 25/12/2025 22:05

Wasn’t all bad got some nice gifts including a ninja slushie from DH - I’m sure I will laugh about this eventually but I’m very glad hosting BIL is a bi-annual event

Makemeanonymous · 25/12/2025 22:20

It didn't feel a bit like Christmas day actually. But generally enjoyable despite the fact I've got this terrible cough and not feeling great.
Just me and my adult son. We opened our presents listening to Handel's Messiah as we always do. Then had a lovely walk down by the Firth of Clde - really cold but beautiful weather. A nice meal and a glass of wine followed by a game of Scrabble.
Off to bed now to try and rest up and get rid of this annoying cough.

I'm sorry some of you had a rotten day. Hope tomorrow is better.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/12/2025 22:28

Better, lovely walk this morning watching the sun come up over the sea, DC’s lived all their presents, we survived lunch with elderly DM and single DSis who poke each other to get a rise and spent a few hours with a friend this evening who was unexpectedly on her own

oustedbymymate · 25/12/2025 22:28

Fabulous

tinyspiny · 25/12/2025 22:30

Absolutely brilliant both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day , couldn’t be happier . Roll on tomorrow which will hopefully be as good again .

shellyleppard · 25/12/2025 22:30

Tiring and painful. My sons did help with the food prep but I did most of the cooking. I changed into my pyjamas at 7 pm 🤣

Specialagentblond · 25/12/2025 22:31

Better than expected - just the right balance of fun without being overwhelming exhausting. We hosted and our giests were wonderful and left at just the right time so we could cosy up as family for a film and cheeseboard.

looking forward to plating it all up again tomorrow after a lie in and a long hike.

IndigoIsMyFavouriteColour · 25/12/2025 22:36

Had a lovely time with the kids who all enjoyed their presents. We played a few board games all together and had a lovely meal. The kids are getting older now so can be far more engaged in games. This evening we are all just vegged out in front of the tv. It’s been lovely

socks1107 · 25/12/2025 22:42

Really nice! Adult dc a joy, in-laws lovely today and everything ran smoothly

MrsSkylerWhite · 25/12/2025 22:45

Pleased for you.
Very nice, thank you 😊

madnessitellyou · 25/12/2025 22:50

Shite.

I can’t get rid of DM. I was so stressed out (by dm) that I couldn’t eat. I’m hungry now but it’s too late. I just want a very large glass of wine and to put my pjs on.

Purpleandredandyellow · 25/12/2025 23:34

Woke up hungover after great Xmas Eve party with neighbours - had nice pressie openings, kids delighted with their gifts. Made brunch for 10 and had Family around for breakfast which was great. Cleaned up after and went for walk with dog which was lovely. Came back and prepped for dinner - DH put turkey on and went upstairs and fell asleep for 2.5 hours just to wake up to dinner being ready. I was quite cross to be honest!! Over it now and stuffed to the gills - looking forward to getting away for a few days now and no more cleaning/breaking down boxes - feels like I’ve cleaned the kitchen 8 times today!!

piscofrisco · 26/12/2025 05:38

Bit dull but fine

Damnloginpopup · 26/12/2025 08:56

Awesome. Apart from the stuffing farts (though they did make me feel far better)

Arraminta · 26/12/2025 09:38

Really lovely. Just us and the DDs. Everyone loved their presents and DH got me the beautiful Coach tote bag that I was hoping for. Went out for a delicious Christmas lunch then back home to get into PJs. We played a couple of card games then DD1 did a fabulous cheese board for us to enjoy whilst watching Deck The Halls. Very happy and relaxing.

HollyhockDays · 26/12/2025 10:03

Mine was fine. Kids liked their presents. Had a nice time at my sisters. Lunch was very good. DS watched a film with us last night. Slept for a good eight hours last night. Still in bed now.

Ive learnt to adjust my expectations!
