Better or worse than you expected?

Mine has been nice, thought it would be sad due to some circumstances, but on the whole it's been pretty good.

Shit. Boring. Don’t get me started.

MrsDoomsPatterson1 · 25/12/2025 19:34

Blooody awful!

going to bed soon so it will be over

Nugg · 25/12/2025 19:34

Better than expected for a very quiet one with just one of my three offspring. Lots of downtime and a lovely meal. Christmases hit differently since losing both of my parents so this has been a good compromise

ResusciAnnie · 25/12/2025 19:35

Better than expected - parents less irritating (still a bit) and kids less hard work than thought. Cooking WAY less stressful than I thought. Great pressies, great telly (only gladiators and scarecrows wedding so far 😁)

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 25/12/2025 19:37

Much better than expected, actually really nice, but I deliberately have low expectations for Christmas day. Ten adults, six children, no arguments. Age range eight months to 95 years old.

DontGoJasonWaterfalls · 25/12/2025 19:37

It's been a bit of a blur; I've slept a lot. Nice though.

SnowDaysAndBadLays · 25/12/2025 19:38

Lovely, it's just me and I don't celebrate so I've just chilled out, eaten cheese and watched trash TV.

ChristmasElfNo2 · 25/12/2025 19:42

Lovely, just the 4 of us, lots of games food and wine. Older teens so different vibe, but great company

TeenToTwenties · 25/12/2025 19:42

Better than expected. Lovely.

ConnieHeart · 25/12/2025 19:43

It's been nice. I do feel a bit sick at the amount of sweet treats people have bought me. I honestly don't know how I'm going to get through it. OH doesn't really like sweet things & dds were given loads too. I know there are worse problems to have but I really wish people would save their money

Tickingcrocodile · 25/12/2025 19:45

Very nice. It is the first one with just DH and I and the two DC at home for many years. Everyone was happy with their gifts, I cooked dinner without a plan of timings etc but it all worked out. We had a walk and played a board game. The DC got out Cluedo from the cupboard that we've had for years without ever playing. They worked together to teach themselves to play, which is a big improvement on their usual arguing. One DC is recovering from an eating disorder and I was worried about all the food creating stress but we came to an arrangement and she stuck to it. It's been a nice, peaceful day.

xmasdip2025 · 25/12/2025 19:49

Mine has been really brilliant. On my own but was able to embrace it. Long walk in the great weather, relaxing dinner and some nice texts from friends. Feeling grateful.

Hugs to those having a trickier time x

FourChimneys · 25/12/2025 19:49

Very peaceful and free of drama. Slow start, very nice lunch at adult DC and partner's house. A walk as it was getting dark, a couple of phone calls, a long WhatsApp exchange with a friend who is on their own.

Now pottering about, doing some crotchet and eating chocolate. An early night as an early start tomorrow.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 25/12/2025 19:52

Better than expected. Ds 2 didn't kill ds1, so i take that as a win.

Christmas on your own can be great can't it.
I love it.

The whole day was lovely but I have just eaten chocolates and crisps having been calorie counting for the last eight weeks - I’ve lost 7.5kg calorie counting but I feel so bloated and horrible now. It was just there in front of me - so annoyed with myself.

whyexactlythough · 25/12/2025 20:02

So nice!

Had a lie in, took the dogs a walk.

Then we opened gifts and had brunch.

Quick soak in hot tub with Buck's Fizz, made a dessert for family lunch and went to our in-laws.

Now I'm cosy on the sofa with ddog and some Percy pigs!

Bliss.

NeedWineNow · 25/12/2025 20:04

Absolutely lovely. Just me and DH this year, so we got up late, had showers then champagne and opened pressies. Put turkey in and went up our local for a little while. Home, lunch, more wine now settled on the sofa with coffee and Baileys chocolates ready for Call the Midwife.

mazedasamarchhare · 25/12/2025 20:04

Amazing. Dd and dh have outdone themselves with my Christmas present. Dd made me the most beautiful patchwork, and dh took it to be professionally bound and quilted. (It was so huge dd couldn’t quilt it herself!) but I’m over the moon and can’t wait to put it on our bed! Ds managed to find me a replacement plate for the top half of my antique cake stand (belonged to my great grandmother, sadly I broke the top plate thirty years ago!) its now back in all its glory!
its been a very peaceful and chilled day, ds was given a weather station so he and dh were busy building it whilst I got the lunch going this morning, he was also given a recipe book, so is currently in the kitchen preparing for tomorrow’s ‘feast’ (we have friends coming over for lunch, DS is doing the starter and pudding) dd has set up the wildlife camera we got her, not sure how she’s managed to do it, but she’s rigged it up to ‘talk’ to our TV, so whilst DS is busy in the kitchen the rest of us are enjoying watching all the wildlife, so far bunnies, squirrels, and a fox skulked past it about 20 mins ago.

Mine has been absolutely glorious 😊 it couldn’t have been better. My DS1 has brought his partner to spend Christmas with us for the first time, and DS2 has Christmas Day off, so we’ve all been together all day chatting, cooking together, spending 3 hours having dinner…it’s been the best Christmas Day ever. My dad who lives with us (Alzheimer’s) has been right in the middle of everything, singing along to the music and laughing at everyone’s jokes, it’s been years since I’ve seen him so animated and engaged, it’s made me cry with happiness. I’ve been spoiled rotten with presents as well which I really wasn’t expecting. DS2 bought me a 100cm TV for my bedroom (we bought him one for his birthday, and he he noticed we were still watching telly on a crappy old monitor in our room!)

Call me a smug git, but I’ve had a really rotten, tough year and I needed this Christmas to bring us all together…and it has ❤️

ChristmasHug · 25/12/2025 20:14

Lovely, same as every year. 6 of us, 3 generations, lunch at the pub so no messing about..

Its low key so the best and worst moments aren't very far apart.

Best bit is really just that we all get on, the PiLs are very grateful to be included and there's no need for it, they add to the day.

Worst bit was probably the meal, it's somewhere we've been for Xmas lunch many times. It's fine but they've tried not to increase the price so obviously needed to decrease the quality. I don't much care though, better than cooking!

Duchess379 · 25/12/2025 20:14

Just another day looking after my ungrateful disabled mother.

Aww, you enjoy your entitled smugness
Merry Christmas x

Overall good. I was cooking at my daughter’s house but tbh my DH was a total cock womble today. He basically refused to do nappy changes, high chair clean up etc. total waste of space. 4 kids under 4 and he was suddenly too proud or busy to fucking help. Totally out of character and I could honestly throttle him. But here we are.

Hedjwitch · 25/12/2025 20:20

It's been good. Was apprehensive about it without mum and two of my 3 DCs, and other stuff but it was OK. Lunch went well without being too stressful,DD1 was relaxed and brought a lovely friend, nice gifts exchanged, some quiz questions and job done. Feel relieved and now in bed with one of my new books.
