We've done these threads before and it's quite cheery to have some virtual company. The hashtag #joinin will find similar on the likes of Bluesky and X.

For the purposes of this thread, 'on your own' means no one else in the house. But I probably should be inclusive and invite those who 'feel' on their own or alone. So all welcome.

I've had a leisurely breakfast and will be making myself a roast later. WITH YORKSHIRES. Otherwise I plan to watch Alastair Sim Scrooge, It's a Wonderful Life and The Holly and the Ivy, a marvellous film from 1952.

Are you west coast USA @AcrossthePond55 ? The first Christmas of your new life. That's exciting. I wish you all you wish yourself.

Yes, I am @TellingBone ! Northern California to be specific. The wind is howling here and we're getting lots of rain. We need the rain, I can do without the wind. Right now I'm snuggled in bed with my Dachsie drinking coffee.

Getting ready to put on a Christmas flick. So far this week I've watched Alastair Sims version of Christmas Carol (the best IMHO), Miracle on 34th Street (original), White Christmas, The Santa Clause, and The Grinch. Today will be Nightmare before Christmas, A Christmas Story, and Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer. If I see DS1 we'll binge Stranger Things Pt 2. And of course Call the Midwife Xmas Special this evening.

Thank you for the good wishes. It's been strange, but peaceful.

And to all "God bless us, every one".

Talking Pictures TV [Freeview 82 in my area] at 16:30. Or it's on Channel 5's streaming service if you have that.

Hello! Merry Christmas 🎄 I'm alternating between sleeping and watching random films. Currently about a third of the way through Godfather Coda. I'm intending a roast beef dinner with roasties & yorkies, etc, but have been working my way through an unseemly quantity of mince pies so who knows.

I could have Christmas dinner tomorrow, it's all part of the nine-day Sunday that forms this holiday week. Fine by me 😎

Welcome to you. Are you across the pond as well? Tell us about Christmas Day proceedings where you are at the moment please.

Hi all,
I just saw your post. I feel like I'm home alone, even though my husband is at home. He is in another room and isn't a TV guy. I'm not in the mood to cook, just snacking away. I think there are relationship problems and he is out of a job.

Merry Christmas everyone.

yetanotheridiot · 25/12/2025 13:03

On my own here, did see the kids for an hour or so with game face on at exh in the fmh which was very wierd. DS2 pointed out that exh chose my earrings gift (he never quite hit the mark with jewellery) and the festive lego set was a freebie from buying so much lego for them.

The fortnums truffles I bought as a treat for myself were meh at best (opened them last night) and have absolutely no appetite for cooking or eating anything. Have started taking Christmas decs down.

Is it tomorrow yet?

Sounds difficult @Toeatornottoeat1 I'm not going to start suggesting solutions here as I know it's just a case of getting through such stuff as best you can. But I do send good wishes.

Tough times. Sorry to hear it's a shitty day for you. I hope this meagre bit of company cheers you a little.

I'm working, does that count as on my own?

I'll be heading down to the office kitchen shortly to do my roasties (we always cook Christmas dinner together!), it has been a blessedly quiet Christmas so far so if everyone could refrain from setting their kitchens on fire while cooking tea that'd be lovely 🙃

Happy Christmas everyone, or happy Thursday for those of you who'd rather just have a normal day.

I arranged to take someone else - can’t back out that way!

@TheLOUDNESS I think its on about 9pm but it maybe online now. I've seen a trailer and can't wait!

Is amandaland a new one or a repeat?

Back21970 · 25/12/2025 13:17

I had a bottle of red wine last night, got up late and just had posh pate on lovely bread.

Fridge is full of nice M&S food and I might have some cava later, not feeling like it at the moment.

Im looking forward to the Soaps later.

4th Christmas on my own and by choice - had a few invites but decided to stay put.

Love of best wishes to you all ❤️

Toeatornottoeat1 · 25/12/2025 13:19

@TellingBone

Thanks for a thoughtful reply. I just want to be in a world of TV, a sense of escapism.

Don't worry, I'm ok.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 25/12/2025 13:27

Merry Christmas all! I’ve just been for a walk to top up the vit D, beautifully sunny here but it is bloody freezing. Roast is in the oven, I went for beef and really zero effort sides from M&S. Cheese this evening but just realised I don’t have any crackers to go with!

im in the midst of an acrimonious divorce, kids are with STBXH. We have managed to agree that we will alternate years. I’m happy but if anyone has any suggestions for a series to get into please do! I have Amazon, Netflix and Disney+ plus sky. Ludicrous that I can’t find anything to watch!

DinoLil · 25/12/2025 13:50

@northshore it's a new one, Christmas special!

Dog and I have had our lunch. Stupid amount of food. She hoped to snaffle what I left, but I've put my leftovers in the fridge. That's breakfast tomorrow sorted! I feel like I've transferred years gone by with family and DC onto my dog, she's now fast asleep with her tongue hanging out

I might join her!

DS has called and DIL texted to say thank you for the 'bits'. BITS?! Gifts I spent £££s on, plus cash, that I save up for all year. Have I even had a card from them? Of course not.

Anyway, that's Corrie watched. Emmerdale next. For you fans, let's just say I'd rather be Carla than Eva! Gotta love a cupboard and some peace!

GarlicRound · 25/12/2025 13:50

What kind of drama grabs you, @boulevardofbrokendreamss? I'm sure we can rustle up a satisfying candidate list!

I've recently intense-binged The Diplomat (Netflix) - manipulation, machinations and a female lead.

One of my all-time favourites is The Blacklist (Netflix & others) - FIVE seasons of crime-solving with humour and originality.

Resident Evil was way more entertaining than I'd expected.

I'll definitely think of more if prompted!

Sounds like you're an essential service worker. In which case thank you.
