We've done these threads before and it's quite cheery to have some virtual company. The hashtag #joinin will find similar on the likes of Bluesky and X.

For the purposes of this thread, 'on your own' means no one else in the house. But I probably should be inclusive and invite those who 'feel' on their own or alone. So all welcome.

I've had a leisurely breakfast and will be making myself a roast later. WITH YORKSHIRES. Otherwise I plan to watch Alastair Sim Scrooge, It's a Wonderful Life and The Holly and the Ivy, a marvellous film from 1952.

Looks like I'm on my own in more ways than one 😂☃

I think your day sounds lovely! Yorkshire's here too btw. I'm not on my own but it's a very 'quiet' one here!

TheLOUDNESS · 25/12/2025 11:49

I’m on my own!

Started the day with the good sherry, (Alvear Fino en Rama) Ethiopian coffee beans, and toast and marmalade. More coffee, Eels’ Last Stop: This Town on loud. Now playing Jacques Brel a L’Olympia as loud as I dare. It will be a day of music, drink, FaceTime, reading, and maybe a walk if I can gather the energy after last night’s midnight cathedral service.

Merry Christmas to all!🎄

MungoforPresident · 25/12/2025 11:49

I am alone. No family, no partner, and no kids. Do Persian cats count? Not doing anything at all in 'celebration' as this time of year is always crap.

Jasrun · 25/12/2025 11:50

I’m gonna go for a walk to break up the day and get some air xx

clary · 25/12/2025 11:50

I’m not on my own (well I am
rn but won’t be) but wanted to applaud your film choices @TellingBonehave a lovely day

northshore · 25/12/2025 11:51

I’m alone! I’ve done parkrun and now watching The Nutcracker. It feels ok so far.

TheLOUDNESS · 25/12/2025 11:52

<Side eyes own failed Parkrun intentions>

YouBelongHere · 25/12/2025 11:58

On my own too! Woke up at 6AM and couldn't get back to sleep so must've been pretty excited 😂 Pain au chocolat and chocolate milk for breakfast then opened my presents from my colleague and my Dad by myself. I also got myself a present - 'mystery date with a book' on etsy, I bought it months ago and it's a book I don't already own so that's good!

My Mum did pop in for 45 mins so we could exchange gifts, she got me a games console I've been longing for but couldn't afford so I'm excited to set that up after dinner 😄

Just switched on the oven to preheat. I told my colleague I was spending Christmas alone and she didn't pull the sympathetic face but did ask what I was going to eat and seemed surprised/pleased when I said I'd make a Christmas dinner (yorkshires here too!). Why do people assume those of us spending it alone have sad microwave meals? 😂

TheShiningCarpet · 25/12/2025 11:59

Yep by choice! Fire on, lunch in oven, cats sitting in the sun, Christmas jazz on. Eating what I want when I want, this afternoon will chill, watch stranger things and do some knitting. Cheese for dinner.
It's been a hell of a year and this is a needed reset and quiet.

For those not alone by choice or not having the best day, sending virtual hand holds

NotEnoughtGin · 25/12/2025 12:10

On my own this year by choice. Had a nice breakfast of poached eggs and salmon, went out for a walk and now drinking cava and doing a jigsaw. Really enjoying having a peaceful day after a stressful year. I'll call some family later to chat and say hi to the nieces and nephews but otherwise I'm just enjoying the peace

TellingBone · 25/12/2025 12:11

Hullo all!

I'm currently watching Nutcracker as well. Though @TheLOUDNESS has inspired me to some Jacques Brel. Might postpone my films till after that.

I've already watched the 1935 version of Scrooge this morning 😂So Alastair Sim gets the starring slot later.

Merry Christmas to you! Does having a dog count? I'm on my own apart from her.

What are you having for lunch? I ordered a Christmas dinner from a local caterer and it got delivered yesterday. Little foil containers that I just need to pop in the oven later.

Have you had any gifts to open? Any texts or calls from friends?

I've been scrolling here to read about the dramas, the 'oh woe is me' brigades. It's just another day!

Anyway, I'm going to watch Corrie and Emmerdale now, pop my foil containers in the oven and I shall raise a sprout to you in solidarity! Actually, I don't even know if there are any sprouts in there...

TellingBone · 25/12/2025 12:15

My favourite is roast lamb so I'm having that - can't justify it any other time of year! Sprouts of course; love them. Wish I had a dog but sadly no pets allowed where I live. I live quite some distance from friends and family and adult DC is abroad anyway visiting the outlaws. So yes I've had a few gifts to open and texts and phone calls.

Merry Christmas Love GIF by Red and Howling

Persian cats R Us! They do take a lot of brushing. I have a B/W short haired cat who is waiting for her turkey! Not that knows it, of course. Its just me and DH here (and cat) after I suffered a stroke 2 years ago so still trying to get it together ref language and speech. It actually helps to send messages. Enjoy your day. xxxx

Got anything nice to eat? Any films on telly you fancy?

Only 12 weeks until Spring 😋

Hi all, I'm on my own this year after an unexpected passing of my kitty in december, I'm ready with camambert and trashy films (and an interview with a rescue next week🤗) sending love to all xx

TellingBone · 25/12/2025 12:23

Ooh, hope you find a nice rescue. That's something to look forward to 😊

TBH I'm not sure yet if I'll be alone or not, does that count? I hosted DS2 and his lovely partner yesterday but I'm really not sure about today. DS1 got in very late from a 2 week very hectic business trip so I'm not sure what he plans for today. So it may be just me and the dog. Oddly enough, I seem to feel OK with it if DS1 decides he just wants to recuperate. At any rate, I have no plans for today.

First Xmas since I left DH in July. We've been married 38 years, so this is a real change for me. It's 4 am here, I've been awake since 2, but so far so good, we'll see what the day brings. I have plenty of chocolate but no alcohol. Alcohol was the reason I left DH, plus I hate the idea of drinking alone.

Since it's early here, I raise a cup of coffee to those who are 'physically' alone and also those who are alone even though there might be someone else in the house.

TheLOUDNESS · 25/12/2025 12:30

Well I don’t own a microwave!

As I’ve just started on the cheese, lunch is still a distant prospect - but will involve oysters and very good wine.

That album (it’s 1961) is at the top of my Desert Island List, @TellingBone. Along with Frank Ocean’s Blond, which I’ll probably have on repeat later.

Wait, what time is ‘Amandaland’?

DinoLil · 25/12/2025 12:31

Sprouts are a must - but they need a couple of days of boiling to reach optimum mushiness!

Sorry you can't have a dog @TellingBone They are great company. My family all live away, too. I could have visited but DPs go to DSis and her family. She has a cat. I am seriously allergic to cats.@CountryMouse22 I'm wheezing just reading your post 😆

DS is away with DIL and her family. He sent a text to say he'd call me in a few minutes. That was several hours ago.

But we have us all for company today! Thanks for starting the thread @TellingBone I'm going to pop the oven on now and see what delights are in the containers!

DinoLil · 25/12/2025 12:33

@TheLOUDNESS I think its on about 9pm but it maybe online now. I've seen a trailer and can't wait!

Are you west coast USA @AcrossthePond55 ? The first Christmas of your new life. That's exciting. I wish you all you wish yourself.
