I’m overwhelmed by sons kindness and want to share it

Hello all, as it’s Christmas and there is often so much bitterness directed at young adults these days for being selfish etc. I just want to share the most incredible act of kindness from my son.

My son is 24, my mum passed away 21 years ago, my son has no memories of her as he was so little. She was buried up in the north east where she spent her entire life and despite DH and I living down in the south we always made an effort to visit her grave on December 23rd, her birthday. It really mattered to me and the thought of her spending her birthday alone crippled me. This year DH and I were unable to travel, DH is unwell and we are caring for his elderly parents, there was just no way we could make the journey without comprising his health and treatment.

Today though my son, who lives in London and is spending Christmas abroad with his girlfriends family, so has really had to go out of his way to do this, sent me a picture of him at my mothers grave, and text “I couldn’t let grandma be alone on her birthday could I”, he lay beautiful flowers and told me he and his girlfriend just spent some time there.

Im completely overwhelmed by this act, he had no personal connection to her, it was wildly out of his way and no doubt cost him extra to do so.

I know it’s easy to believe many young adults are selfish and lack values but in the days leading up to Christmas I just want to share a little story that proves there are many good ones out there too.

KimHwn · 23/12/2025 23:49

Swallowing back tears here! Well done you for raising such a lovely man. Your mother would be so proud, I'm sure.

Crinkydinky · 23/12/2025 23:50

Thank you everyone. He’s such a darling, I don’t think I did anything particularly special raising him so won’t take any credit for his kindness, I’d say that is self driven.
He and his girlfriend have had a hard year with health concerns and her grandma passing in the summer so I’m completely overwhelmed that they had any capacity left to be so kind.

It isn't often we read nice things about men here. or young people for that matter.

I would have sobbed receiving that picture, what a mix of enotions it must have brought with it!
