Her bowl is FULL of the only foid she will eat. She's eaten it for the 11 years shes been alive. Except, since saturday mirning, she has decided that it is not acceptable.

She will make an exception for dreamies, so i have sprinkled a few on top. Sniffs. Walks away. Gets under my feet. Tried a different flavour of dreamies. Sniffs. Walks away. Meows. Trips me up.

What she wants, is for me to empty the bowl and refill with FRESH UNSNIFFED BISCUITS.

(Shes not il, teeth are fine)

Who will give in first?

You will, of course!
YABVVU that you haven't already done this!

EatYourDamnPie · 21/12/2025 09:05

You will.Grin

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 21/12/2025 09:06

You might as well get used to it. This is your life now.

PhaseFour · 21/12/2025 09:06

You'll get much more footfall on The Litter Tray, OP.
I'm new to this cat ownership, but have you not heard of the cat tax?

mumofoneAloneandwell · 21/12/2025 09:08

😄😄😄

Yabu sorry girl, we are but humble snack servants to our cats

Also, photo please 🥰

xSideshowAuntSallyXx · 21/12/2025 09:08

Cats are finickity.

I have food they ate yesterday that they don't want this morning. They want treats, they'll even try and grab them out of the packet whilst I'm trying to put them down.

herbalteabag · 21/12/2025 09:08

You will! Sounds like one of mine - I always give in as I feel anxious he's not eating, whilst he bounds around acting perfectly normally. He also has past form for sneaking into the neighbours and eating their cat's food instead if his own isn't up to scratch!

Hah.
Give up already.
You know who is the boss of you...

Chemenger · 21/12/2025 09:11

You might as well just give in now, you know you’re going to crack first.

MrsMoastyToasty · 21/12/2025 09:11

Has she had a Kitty Takeaway (bird or mouse)?

Sweetiedarling7 · 21/12/2025 09:12

Apparently there is a biological reason why cats suddenly go off a known favourite food which is their brain telling them they need a variety of “prey” to get all their nutrients so it isn’t them purely being contrary.
Obviously need to check physical health though if a cat changes eating behaviours.
Dental issues, arthritis (bending to a low bowl can be uncomfortable), kidney disease or other issues causing nausea.
Cats are good at hiding illness so humans need to spot tiny signs and be careful not to attribute changes to the wrong reason which is easily done.

Silverbirchleaf · 21/12/2025 09:12

Has your resolved faded yet ?

(and where’s the picture of her Ladyship?)

500mileslong · 21/12/2025 09:13

You will!

Similar standoff daily with my dcat….. except with soft food. If the food has been left for longer then 2 mins to have a minuscule hint of dryness = won’t eat.
If insufficient dreamies have not been given = won’t eat.
If dry food too dry = won’t eat.

9 out of 10 times he is also able to successfully convince each member of the family coming home that he hasn’t yet had dreamies by sitting and staring mournfully at the dreamies cupboard.

TomatoSandwiches · 21/12/2025 09:15

Erm why are you on MN when you have a bowl to empty and refill?

ChristmasMantleStatue · 21/12/2025 09:15

My two cats suggest your poor cat who has eaten the same food daily for 11 years needs a gently poached chicken breast.

And tomorrow she would quite like salmon.

[They are glaring at me daring me not to do the same]

IthinkIamAnAlien · 21/12/2025 09:16

I was in the Pets at Home queue querying stock of one of the cat foods, the assistant was trying to be helpful and pointed out that there was stock of the meaty kind. 'Sorry, mine only eats fishy flavour' I said and the three people in the queue behind all smirked or smiled benignly (take your pick!)

Cats, they just drive us mad. Our little darling picks and chooses, tuna flavoured is usually his favourite but we never know.....😂

LlynTegid · 21/12/2025 09:17

No one owns a cat. They just live in your house.

Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 21/12/2025 09:20

Ugh. I am not wavering.

The cat will not eat chicken, fish, ham, anything at all like that. She will of course catch poor defenceless rodents, and sometimes birds. And bring them into the house to release, unharmed.

She had a vet check two weeks ago. She just likes to infuriate me

Im going to have a coffee, and then i will consider wavering.

OP posts:
Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 21/12/2025 09:21

Oh. And she doesnt (wont) use a litter tray. Small mercies.

OP posts:
Illbefinejustbloodyfine · 21/12/2025 09:22

The offender.

We need to just accept the fact that cats own us.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 21/12/2025 09:23

Yep. That is the face of a cat just waiting for you to buy an industrial quantity of the ONE food she will eat before she goes off it.

ChristmasMantleStatue · 21/12/2025 09:26

She's cute. Smile Looks like one of mine.

Okay [thinks hard] .... I suggest you make her a lightly whipped milk mousse using those special cat milks. I bet she'd love that. **

Although i sometimes make mine scrambled eggs when they seem a little off colour. I know you said she was fine, but she might need something easily digestible today.

**I am fully aware that by following any of my suggestions you are just setting yourself up for a life of kitty-catering pain.

Unprecedentedusername · 21/12/2025 09:27

You’re making me nervous. I’ve just ordered 72 pouches of my cats “favourite” food. I know I have been foolish.
