Starmer on LK

“If it’s in our national interest to have even closer alignment with the single market than we should consider that, we should go that far”

Venezuela makes it clear how much has been lost by Brexit.

If it's any consolation, I can't help but feel "the plan" was to have a Tory government in power right now. We can all be proud that as a whole the UK decided to be contrary.

The same could be said of France, except contrary is every French persons default setting.

DuncinToffee · 04/01/2026 11:38

Anyone got snow?

OP posts:
countrygirl99 · 04/01/2026 11:41

No snow here but I had to boil a kettle to unfreeze the barn doors this morning.

Notonthestairs · 04/01/2026 11:41

A bit leftover from Friday. Pavements have a lovely looking glasslike sheen but are horrifically slippery.

DuncinToffee · 04/01/2026 11:46

We had a thin layer, all melted now

Still about 2cm of frozen snow around here. With brilliant sunshine (so already a good start to exceeding 2025s record). And very still - so crisp.

Wrap up warm though ...

No snow at all here but very cold and bright - frost still on the roof tops at nearly mid-day

DuncinToffee · 04/01/2026 11:55

This has gone under the radar

Royal Air Force Typhoon jets have joined French aircraft in a joint strike on an underground arms cache in Syria used by the Islamic State group (IS), the UK Ministry of Defence says.

Same here.

PandoraSocks · 04/01/2026 12:10

Freezing here, but no snow. @cardibach I hope you are OK, I know you find cold weather difficult.

Same here. It’s quite nice to be getting a proper winter at last.

Anyone got snow?

No, just clear, bright and very cold.

LlttledrummergirI · 04/01/2026 12:18

Bright, shiny, clear and very cold here, but no snow. Just as well as my dsis lives at the top of a steep hill and we are heading up there shortly for my nieces birthday.

It's truly beautiful though.

Thanks. I do, but I managed to bully and cajole myself into going to the gym for a Kombat class (boxing plus weights and cardio) today so I’m proud of myself. I train in an old Train Shed. It’s cavernous and has no heating so it’s very definitely like aversion therapy!
It’s a battle though. But warmer in a few days and we have no snow so that’s something.

PickAChew · 04/01/2026 13:23

We just have a few remnants of yesterday's heavy dusting and lots of black ice where the pavements aren't dry. The sunshine today is glorious, though. Best enjoyed indoors!

Evenstar · 04/01/2026 13:59

-6° here this morning in the North West and it’s just started snowing and settling 🥶

PandoraSocks · 04/01/2026 14:00

It is clouding over here. I wonder if we will get a dusting.

BestIsWest · 04/01/2026 14:02

We had a dusting yesterday and another overnight and it’s not thawing.

Piggywaspushed · 04/01/2026 14:02

Has anyone else read the ST article on the rise in Reform support on MN? They get their stats from analysing posts, which seems a little dubious. That said, we have noticed a drift rightwards, for sure. When that's been mentioned on threads, we have been slapped down and told MN is virtually Communist.

I can't help but think MN has actually lured in some Reform and right of Tory voices via certain forums and boards, too.

Can anyone do share tokens?

I’ll give it a go. See if this works. I think it’s highly dubious.

Mumsnet mothers have always leaned Labour. Now Reform is ahead

Rising support for Nigel Farage’s party — if not the man himself — may worry the government

It's a well used research method but not necessarily reliable as it won't consider that people don't post if they feel shouted down or outnumbered and cant account for bots, name changers, repeat posters, tag teaming etc. The one poster directly quoted is a well known definite right wing poster. Not sure why her user name is specified!

PandoraSocks · 04/01/2026 14:12

In some parts it almost sounds as though Justine Roberts backs Reform. Which could explain a few things.

BIossomtoes · 04/01/2026 14:13

Does the link work? Obviously it does for me because it’s my account!

I said exactly the same on another thread
All the other posters are anonymous except for that one. The full post quoted from is a massive rant against left wingers.

Shouldn't she be at home making sure behind the fridge is clean ?
