How much effort do you make to look nice each day

As the tittle says really. I currently exclusively wfh, but normally I’d be in the office 2 days a week. I never wear make up if I’m wfh unless I have a really important external meeting. I also mainly wear smartish lounge wear, rather than smarter work type stuff. I do straighten my hair daily as it takes on a life of its own!

I popped out to drop something to a friend yesterday, she was wfh and looked so lovely and glam - I felt like a troll in my gym leggings and oversized jumper!

And now I’m wondering if I should start making more of an effort, would I feel better about myself? I do hate looking at myself on team, I look old and tired when bare faced. But can I be bothered?

Keen to know what others do day to day? Tips for quick make up too please!

Yes I have upped my game recently. I noticed a lot of others have too. Also hiding the bags under my eyes. A quick cc cream over the face and a touch of blush is enough really.

When WFH you can look nice in a blouse or anything with a collar under a jumper when on a call.

MarbleDrive · 11/12/2025 08:44

I make no effort if I’m wfh. I have Teams meetings throughout the day so I’ll put on something decent on my top half, like a jumper, but my bottom half is usually my gym gear or pyjamas.

I use the soft focus filter in Teams, so no makeup required!

arethereanyleftatall · 11/12/2025 08:45

I brush my hair and put it in a pony.

and then I go.

Ineedanewsofa · 11/12/2025 08:52

WFH is slicked back pony, tinted sunblock and smart jumper, usually something comfortable on the bottom half although if I’ve got errands to run on lunch I’ll stick jeans on. I never wear jewellery if I’m at home - something which would be easy enough to change and would elevate the ‘look’ but I hate the feel of most necklaces and bracelets, I don’t even wear my rings at home because I it’s a faff to take them off for handwashing, they just end up on the sink all day!

BlueberryOats · 11/12/2025 08:53

Came on to say soft focus on Teams! It's in the settings.

I definitely need to hide my dark circles! I find most under eye stuff looks cakey. I’m mixed race and the colours just don’t seem to work.

Yes I use this, it does help but I need more I think 😂

I work for myself and so some days I am totally wfh and then other days I do have to be out, but this can be very short notice.

So with this in mind, I start every day as if I am going to be out. Will get properly dressed and some make up on, hair done etc.

As it is just how it has always been, if I know I am not going out or to be seen by any client, I just cannot function properly if I am not properly dressed. I think my brain is hard wired to know that if I am in trackie bottoms, leggings or pj's then it just switches off.

Kendodd · 11/12/2025 09:07

Zero.
I don't wear makeup or even brush my hair (short hair, falls nicely without brushing). I do shower Grin and wear clean clothes though. I suppose I'm quite lucky in that I've been blessed with a pretty face so can carry it off.
But yes, zero effort even for professional business meetings or public speaking. Actually, I suppose I do wear smarter clothes for these things.

Yes it is really hard to find a good match. I've had some joy with Nars/Giorgi Armani, if you haven't tried them yet?

TheTowerAtMidnight · 11/12/2025 09:11

I mean, I brush my hair...

CanYouHereMeRoar · 11/12/2025 09:15

When I Wfh I do get dressed, often a neutral coloured top and a pair of comfy but smart trousers. It helps get me in the working mind. Don't bother with make up though.

I don't even do that!

Sorry I had to laugh when I read your post and then saw your user name. So incongruous!
I'm afraid I can't stop myself from imagining his face now.

i tried GA foundation once but it was too oily for my skin but since Menopause I no longer have that issue so I’ll try again. I’ll also check out Nars.

Ive tried MAC, Estée Lauder and currently I have Laura Mercier which is ‘ok’. Tempted by Victoria Beckham.

I'm a home carer, as long as I am clean, body and uniform, I'm not fussed.
Tragically, I used to have a pretty face, I don't have one any more

TheMorgenmuffel · 11/12/2025 09:24

I'm self employed and I am sitting here on my bed getting agreements printed, still in my pyjamas with unbrushed hair and unwashed face so I'm going to go with fuck all.

DarkEyedSailor · 11/12/2025 09:25

Hair done, eyebrows and lashes done, I'm using Rimmel Better than Filters mixed with Max Factor foundation at the minute and it's fab, clothes aren't in fashion but they're nice (skirt tights and jumper with boots today).

I work in a kitchen so I have to take it all off and put uniforms and hat on! But I feel better if I make an effort.

HollyChristmas · 11/12/2025 09:30

We called into a cafe yesterday ( was quite early ) around 10.30 am and I noticed we were ( dh and I) the scruffy ones in there !

Sunndays43226 · 11/12/2025 09:34

OP I am the same as you in terms of what I do even re what you said about hair. However I’d love to make more effort everyday as it does make me feel good. But even on wfh days the reality of getting two DCs out the door and start work on time still means I’m short for time and make up is an obvious task to skip

Smittenkitchen · 11/12/2025 09:35

Very little right now if I don't have an in-person meeting. I'm rushed off my feet with two small kids, trying to work and keep everything running. Looking very bedraggled today but just can't manage it all atm.

Smittenkitchen · 11/12/2025 09:36

Oh, also the boiler's broken so no hot water currently which doesn't help!

Starlight1984 · 11/12/2025 09:55

I'm the same as you @imnothavingagoodtime and most of my friends are too! No make-up unless in the office / going out, minimal hair styling (either in a ponytail or a claw clip), loungewear or leggings and a jumper t-shirt...

Confusednbemused · 11/12/2025 10:05

Zero effort.

My hair does whatever it likes whether I spent hours on it or just run a brush through so what's the point. I tend to have it in a french plait or what I call a viking twist which is just with two strands.

I never got the hang of make up, if i make an effort it looks cakey and crap so stopped bothering. Seems to be better for me to moisturise and at most put a dab of mascara on.

I don't like the feel of leggings or joggers, so am usually wearing a dress or jeans and a blouse with a funky cardigan. But to me that's low effort. A dress looks like effort but it's one garment pulled over your head, too easy!

Kaftanqween · 11/12/2025 10:07

i wfh and part time too so sometimes I’m just at home! I put make up on almost every day and dress in clothing I’d be happy to be seen in. Putting make up on is in an effort to feel ‘fabulous’ and good about myself. I find putting make up on soothing and relaxing and I like make up products.
If you’re looking for concealer recommendations the vb one is great but very light. It’s great for drier skin but extremely expensive. The westman atelier one is also great it seems much thicker but somehow sinks into the skin. It gives more coverage.
If you’re looking for skin tint recommendations I would recommend the lisa Eldridge over the Victoria Beckham. No one does undertone like lisa Eldridge so it’s easier to find a good match.
