How much effort do you make to look nice each day

As the tittle says really. I currently exclusively wfh, but normally I’d be in the office 2 days a week. I never wear make up if I’m wfh unless I have a really important external meeting. I also mainly wear smartish lounge wear, rather than smarter work type stuff. I do straighten my hair daily as it takes on a life of its own!

I popped out to drop something to a friend yesterday, she was wfh and looked so lovely and glam - I felt like a troll in my gym leggings and oversized jumper!

And now I’m wondering if I should start making more of an effort, would I feel better about myself? I do hate looking at myself on team, I look old and tired when bare faced. But can I be bothered?

Keen to know what others do day to day? Tips for quick make up too please!

I’ve just woken up and can’t fathom how people don’t brush their hair. After sleeping your hair gets messed up on the pillow surely? It makes sense now as I see so many children come into school with their hair all over the place; they belong to the non groomers! 😂

Do you know anyone with curly hair? Ask them if they brush it!

I always brushed my children’s hair for school because theirs is a totally different texture to mine.

Not everyone’s hair is the same. Mine is poker-straight and cut into a short 1920s style bob. It doesn’t tangle, ever, and brushing it just makes it oily.

If it’s a bit messy when I wake up, all I need to do to put it right is run my wet hands through it and shake it into place with my fingers.

@BauhausOfEliott I spend a lot of time and money on skin care as I’ve never had great skin. However, my skin is drier since menopause and this has been exacerbated by recent health issues and awful medication side effects.

I hear you - I think most women definitely find skin gets either drier or oilier during perimenopause. I’ve also found my skin is more sensitive than it used to be, especially around my eyes.

Plus I had a two-week hospital stay recently and my skin felt wrecked after that.

i thought I’d update! This week I’ve worn a little make up everyday and tired to stay away from gym clothes as day wear. I have to admit I’ve felt much better! It’s a pain in the arse removing make up each evening but I’ll keep it up.

I need to sort my clothes out, get back in to ironing a few bits each week and buy some new make up. Going to check out Westman Atelier as recommended.

Thanks for all help and tips!

I'm always freshly showered and enjoy choosing an outfit rather than just pulling on clothes. Always wear light make up (unless ill) as I have low contrast colouring so my features need some definition.

I wear Erborian CC Cream + mascara + Victoria Beckham dark brown eyeliner smudged into the roots of my upper lashes + Bobbi Brown Extreme Lip Tint. Takes me less than 3 minutes. Finish with a spritz of perfume.

@imnothavingagoodtime glad you're feeling a bit better for doing it. I have to say this is key for me. I don't go full glam but I do make a little bit of effort every day with skincare, 3 mins putting some makeup on etc and I think it does me good mentally rather than physically. Like I deserve it and am worth looking after ....if that makes any sense whatsoever.

Makes perfect sense! I’ve feel
less drag and more confident. I’m not full glam at all. Good skin care as before, tinted moisturiser, bronzer and a little blush and mascara! I’ve not got it below 15 mins yet. I’m slow in the morning!

Even if I’m not going out I wear makeup unless I don’t feel well. I always have: foundation, powder, eyebrow powder, eyeshadow, mascara and Vaseline or lipstick. I shower and blow dry and straighten my hair every other day. I think I take 20 minutes on average each day (longer if I’m showering, less if I’m not) to make myself look better. Fully understand that some people don’t have this time or need the sleep more!

I'm glad to hear that you're feeling a bit better too, OP! I remember reading your thread a while ago, but didn't comment.

On a daily basis, I put very little effort into my appearance... but I work in farming, so I generally get spattered with cow muck, iodine and other interesting substances!

If I'm staying home on a day off, it's comfortable clothes that I don't mind the neighbours/postie seeing. If I'm off out, I put on my nicest clothes (smart coat, skirt, etc.), and people give me admiring glances... and if they ask what I do for a living, they look deeply shocked and think that I'm lying 😂
