Simple things you can not do

Is there something that everyone else seems to be able to do with ease that you just can’t do?
I can not shuffle a pack of cards or whistle

No, surprisingly SPAG are probably my strongest points (though far from perfect). Absolutely awful with numbers though. I have been told by a professional (but not diagnosed) that it's "likely" I have ADHD, so maybe it's linked to that. It does make me feel a bit of a failure as a mother in particular though, and is quite embarrassing.

I forget to mention that most of my children and grandchildren are dyslexic but I can see you understood it’s what I meant. Funnily enough though half of them also have a diagnosis of ADHD. Not that it’s funny at all in real terms.

IM sorry you feel a bit of a failure and I wish you didn’t think that. I think you’re children will do really well in the world having a mum who struggled or struggles at times and can see the bigger picture that life is.

Exactly the same here, down to the detail of screwing up the left cheek but literally nada on the right hand side.

🤣 I wonder if there are more of us out there somewhere? I know a few that can't wink but you are the only other afflicted with this particular weirdness!

No sense of direction. KFC has opened up on the outskirts of town. I’m more intrigued how you get inside the bloody place, than eating the shit food! 🙈

mondaytosunday · 20/08/2026 15:02

I don’t have any sense of direction. Someone might say ‘go north on the High St’ and I have to think hard. I’m bright but just can’t do it. My DD is worse though!

Confettions · 20/08/2026 15:05

I have to think carefully about if something is east or west eg Bristol being south west of uk or London being south east

mamaduckbone · 20/08/2026 15:43

I can’t blow up balloons, or do my bra strap up behind my back (have to do it at the front and twist it round)

Do you drive? Do you have the same issue with traffic lights - also red and green, like Tesco and Asda - and just go or stop whenever you fancy?!

I always think of Tesco as blue. Maybe because my Clubcard is blue.

I really struggle to follow along to something in a mirror. I’ve tried several gym / dance type classes where if I can see and follow the instructor facing the same way as me, (so watching their back usually) I’m absolutely fine.

But if I have to watch a mirror or the instructor is facing me, I’m kaput. I’m the one turning to the left when everyone else is turning right or putting my arm out when everyone else is going in.

It’s such a simple thing but my brain just goes nope.

EmeraldDreams73 · 20/08/2026 18:00

Turn the right way when coming out of shops! Terrible sense of direction especially when walking - though I'm a good map reader so get away with it when driving.

Hoolahoop
Loose/lose without stopping to think
Left and right. (Car directions are my way and your way)

Willowskyblue · 20/08/2026 23:29

Sit in the floor with crossed legs. I think very short hamstrings are to blame. I also can’t sit back on my heels. I do look a bit funny at my yoga class where everyone seems to be made of plasticine!

Good of you to reply - I only noticed after I posted that your original post was from last year! Your description of our affliction was spot on. How are you with eyebrows? Mine will only operate in tandem and refuse all attempts at a single arched brow which is unfortunate as it would be the ideal response to a lot of things DH comes out with…

BansheeOfTheSouth · 21/08/2026 18:32

@mixedpeel Can't operate the eyebrows independently either!! Both or nothing.
Hadn't occurred to me that I'm missing this response from my repertoire ... hope mine doesn't think the lack of a raised eyebrow is approval 😅

igelkott2026 · 21/08/2026 18:39

I can't roll my r's. And I have to blow my nose each nostril at a time, not together.

I did use to be able to knit, but I couldn't cast off, which was a bit of a problem once I'd finished! I did get taught to crochet when I was about 7 but have forgotten how now. I can sew a button on but that's the extent of my sewing ability.

Blowing bubbles with bubblegum, whistle, crouch
