Simple things you can not do

Is there something that everyone else seems to be able to do with ease that you just can’t do?
I can not shuffle a pack of cards or whistle

Sneeze 😅 DH is very concerned that one day my head will explode with how I sneeze

treacledan71 · 20/08/2026 08:35

Cut straight or sew.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 20/08/2026 08:42

Ride a bike
Roller skate
Roll my Rs
Tell Left from Right without thinking about it
Have no sense of direction

didgeridid · 20/08/2026 08:45

I can't blow my nose if I have glasses on 😂

I also can't swim

RampantIvy · 20/08/2026 08:47

Say squirrel. I just can’t say it.

Cook. Even the most basic of cooking.

Can you not even follow a simple recipe?

RampantIvy · 20/08/2026 08:48

Knit or crochet.

Probably more to do with the fact that I have no interest in doing so than ability though.

scalt · 20/08/2026 08:48

Walk in flip flops, I have to “claw” at them to keep them on, and my feet ache within a minute. My sandals need a heel strap.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/08/2026 08:50

Keep my bedroom tidy.
Make a list and do things on the list.
Finish a task.
Remember my blood group.
Adopt any kind of routine or habit.
Do east and west correctly first time.

poachy · 20/08/2026 08:53

Turn corners when riding a bike.

Put your hands in front of you
Nails facing you
Fingers together
Stick out your thumb

The hand that makes an L shape is your left hand.

I cant do left and right without really thinking either

When I started driving I used to wear a ring on my right hand. Ring for right.

Then I bloody got married.

Now I have a semi panic at every roundabout, and when satnav starts telling me to prepare. Arghhh

I cant do anything that needs coordination. Im shit at all sport.

Haha. Yeah I do the L for left thing with my hand. I can't drive either. I imagine I'd be appalling at following street signs!

But I do have a naturally decent sense of direction and if I've been somewhere once I'll remember how to get to it really well.

Starlight40 · 20/08/2026 09:14

Clap in time

permanently · 20/08/2026 09:21

Raise one eyebrow.

Blarn · 20/08/2026 09:24

Also can't click my fingers.

I can't give or follow directions either. The oddest thing about this is thst I can read a map and navigate by road signs, i just cannot translate these into verbal instructions if someone asks! If it wasn't for the useful road closure and traffic info I'd be tempted to ditch satnav.

Mixymaxymoxy · 20/08/2026 09:27

Roll my tongue.

Hear (have worn hearing aids since I was 9).

NecklessMumster · 20/08/2026 09:31

I don't really understand the rules on a lot of quiz shows, I obviously know they have to get answers right but otherwise I let it wash over me without having a clue what choosing higher or lower on The Chase means, why they shout 'bank' on Weakest Link, or why they keep losing their money on Wheel of Fortune 😊

hellospring26 · 20/08/2026 09:58

Keys. Keys to unlock doors specifically. Just can’t do it.

sunntmead · 20/08/2026 10:19

Follow directions on google maps (or any map).

Moonrocket1 · 20/08/2026 10:45

i can’t put air in my cars tyres - it scares me! I’m ashamed admitting this

EmptyInTheValley · 20/08/2026 11:01

Cannot tell the difference between Westlife and Boyzone. I know Ronan Keating is in one of them but that information will never, ever be retained in my brain.
Same with the football Premiership and Championship leagues. They both sound like the best.
Can't unscrew bottle caps either.

TheeNotoriousPIG · 20/08/2026 11:09

I can't remember things! Lists or directions are the worst... so I have to write everything down, just to get what/where I wanted.

I can't sleep through the night without waking every other hour.

I struggle with manual tin openers. I mean, I'm brilliant at opening corned beef tins, but hand me a manual tin opener and I'll be there for hours. My electric one is a godsend!

Telling the time on an analogue clock face took me forever to work out, and I can't do it under pressure. I appreciate a good clock face on a church tower, but I much prefer digital.

Crocheting remains beyond me. I can knit Aran and Fair Isle, use a knitting machine, but crocheting? Forget it!

Not well. I really struggle to follow instructions and execute them well when there's more than a couple of tasks involved. I will read each stage of a recipe several times (at least) and still have to check, then by the time I've got to get to the next bit, the first bit is messed up. Or I just get distracted altogether. It's the same reason I did very poorly in school. I'm not an idiot, I just don't process information very well.

thistimelastweek · 20/08/2026 13:11

I can't use a spoon with my right hand.

mixedpeel · 20/08/2026 13:15

BansheeOfTheSouth · 08/11/2025 11:01

Wink

I can screw up my left eye using my cheek but can't operate my right eye independently at all

Exactly the same here, down to the detail of screwing up the left cheek but literally nada on the right hand side.

Are you Dyslexic. All of my children and grandchildren have problems like this. I think it’s called sequencing.

No, surprisingly SPAG are probably my strongest points (though far from perfect). Absolutely awful with numbers though. I have been told by a professional (but not diagnosed) that it's "likely" I have ADHD, so maybe it's linked to that. It does make me feel a bit of a failure as a mother in particular though, and is quite embarrassing.
