Simple things you can not do

Is there something that everyone else seems to be able to do with ease that you just can’t do?
I can not shuffle a pack of cards or whistle

I can't tell how far away something is. Like if something was a meter away I'd think it was 5 meters. Or how many of something there is if there's loads. Like if there's more than 6 people in a room and someone asked how many, without counting them I'd think about 100 when it's only 15?!

I also have trouble with left and right. I can't immediately tell which is which. I have to look at my left hand and do an L shape with it and say 'L for left' in my mind.

I do it by saying (in my head) right is the one I write with, left is the one that's left.

Although if you're left handed that's not going to work 😂

Myfridgeiscool · 19/08/2026 09:28

Left and right need some serious thought.
Same with orange and yellow, I’ll get it wrong if I don’t think hard about it first.

CypressMoon · 19/08/2026 09:29

Drive - wish I could.
Sing in tune - wish I could, just well enough to sing in a choir, or join in carols or karaoke.
Jump or leap. My body just freezes if both feet have to be off the ground at the same time. My brain just seems to say: No. Not doing that.

I can never remember the difference between Asda & Tesco, they’re just interchangeable in my mind.

Do you drive? Do you have the same issue with traffic lights - also red and green, like Tesco and Asda - and just go or stop whenever you fancy?!

concertinacornflake · 19/08/2026 09:32

Put my keys in the same place every time I come home

Haha that's a good one for rightys. Yeah I'm left handed!

Easily tell left from right.
I can on my own body, but opposite, when left is right is beyond me and I have to try really hard

Yes me too, never been able to automatically tell left from right, I have to mentally practice writing and then I know.

I thought Tesco was blue and white??

Gingernaut · 19/08/2026 09:42

Whistle
Pop my cheeks
Snap my fingers

Potatoelephant · 19/08/2026 09:47

put batteries in anything. I never remember which end goes where

whistle properly - I can whistle by sucking rather than blowing

remember people’s names

Fallulah · 19/08/2026 09:49

Climb a rope or do monkey bars! It’s forty years now and I’m still jealous of those kids who could just shimmy up the apparatus at school! 😝

Wink

I can screw up my left eye using my cheek but can't operate my right eye independently at all

I can't do that either. I also can't put my little finger down without my ring finger going down too.

IHopeYouStepOnALegPiece · 19/08/2026 09:55

Eyeball a measurement or know how long something is if someone says "it's 3 inches". Not a clue. My best mate has taken to referring to everything in terms of coke cans, which works better.

Click my fingers

Whistle

Put my middle finger up on either hand, I have weird tendons and if I put down all my other fingers the middle one barely goes halfway

DrCoconut · 19/08/2026 09:56

Everyone else seems to be able to float in water. They don't understand why I don't just do it. I sink like a rock every time.

aliasfrog · 19/08/2026 09:57

I can't catch anything thrown by anyone else except dh. Everything he throws to me i catch easily but before I met him I grew up assuming I couldn't catch!!
I also can't burp, or make porridge, or use a tin opener (dexterity issues).

kab89 · 19/08/2026 10:01

I'm another one who doesn't know left from right, it takes a second for me to work it out. I'm also useless with estimating distances, people's height etc.

durdledoris · 19/08/2026 10:03

If l offer someone a hot drink l instantly forget how they take it unless it is exactly how l have it so white tea no sugar, anything else l have to write down

Haha you don't have to remember, there is a plus and minus sign, you just match it up!

Haha that's a good one for rightys. Yeah I'm left handed!

Put your hands in front of you
Nails facing you
Fingers together
Stick out your thumb

The hand that makes an L shape is your left hand.

I cant do left and right without really thinking either

When I started driving I used to wear a ring on my right hand. Ring for right.

Then I bloody got married.

Now I have a semi panic at every roundabout, and when satnav starts telling me to prepare. Arghhh

I cant do anything that needs coordination. Im shit at all sport.

AnnDroidAnnDroid · 19/08/2026 22:57

I cannot speak foreign languages in a way that locals can understand me, I can learn the words and the conjugations, and I do well in classes and get good marks even in the oral exams but I just can’t get the accents right and when I try people just look confused and speak to me in English.

Spidey66 · 19/08/2026 23:08

Drive, even an automatic. I just can’t get my head round it. I suspect I maybe dyspraxic. I’m 60 so it wasn’t known about when I was a kid, but I forever struggled with PE and other practical things when I was a kid.
