The Rosebud Preserves seville orange marmalade is a real treat.

cornbunting · 08/11/2025 00:14

Another vote for Frank Cooper's Oxford marmalade. My DH loves the coarse cut one almost beyond reason, we can't have it in the house too often as he cannot restrain himself 😂

Yeah make yr own. It might taste rank but he will love it (and you)

Why the f would it taste rank? What a bizarre thing to say!

Controversially posting to say I don’t rate the Tiptree one. I lived there for a while and still prefer Bonne Maman overall..!

muddyford · 08/11/2025 06:43

Frank Cooper's extra thick cut . Think it's called vintage. It says on the label in small print.Texture is good too as some don't spread, merely sit in jellified lumps on the toast.

BeardofHagrid · 08/11/2025 08:03

I’m going to make my own. Lakeland do a kit, a tin of prepared Seville oranges, that was £3.99! All the of the reviews said it’s much nicer than shop bought. Worth a thought!

Myblueclematis · 08/11/2025 08:24

I have home made at the moment but if I bought it from a supermarket then it was Frank Cooper's as it is really dark in colour with thick peel.

canarygarden · 08/11/2025 09:46

Stokes marmalade is lovely (as are most of their sauces),

Beamur · 08/11/2025 09:49

F&M Sir Nigel's is my favourite. We currently have one called Beatrice's Marmalade which is my least favourite 😂 it's a bit thin tasting compared to the others.

Theonewhogotthecake · 08/11/2025 09:51

The F and M Sir Nigel one.

CuriousKangaroo · 08/11/2025 09:52

Tarset Valley marmalade is the best! F&M marmalade would be my second choice.

WinterBerry40 · 08/11/2025 10:05

Well from someone who has visited the world's Marmalade Awards competition ( yes it really happens every year ! ) at Dalmain House in Cumbria , I have the answer !

Seriously go on their website , scroll down to marmalade and they have a section where you can buy marmalade that has been awarded .

PomandersandRedRibbon · 08/11/2025 10:36

@cornbuntingy DH is the same he almost uses half a jar each serving.

@WinterBerry40 that's amazing thank you !
I have a dalmain award winner in my f and m bag ! I'll add some others mentioned from there also and then something more regular like the frank one etc.

It just makes it so much more special when I can tell him the provenance from a marmalade competition 🤣😍

@BeardofHagrid he's a better cook than me but buying him the kit as well is a good idea 😀

Tiptree - a good mix of flavours and shreds including shredless

Chatsworth Farm Shop

Redwinedaze · 08/11/2025 10:45

Frank Cooper!

waitam · 08/11/2025 10:48

Not helping I know, but my late mother was a hoot. Her brother was a total snob and liked "high end" stuff including preserves and marmalades and the like.

One year Mum bought a jar of quite decent marmalade from Waitrose. She decanted it into a kilner jar added some vanilla extract and whisky and gave it to her brother, suitably wrapped in ribbon and with a label saying "hand made by artisans" or something like that. She was very artistic with labels lol.

He asked for the same for his birthday. I always laugh at this.

JadeSquid · 08/11/2025 10:49

A whiskey marmalade.

Enko · 08/11/2025 10:49

Now I want marmelade.. i love the Fortnum and Mason. Sweet orange. bergamont & lemon one. (I love bergamont i know not everyone does)

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 08/11/2025 10:51

I actually prefer Bonne Maman marmalade to all the others.

I'm making some marmalade myself this afternoon. Wish me luck.

Speaking as a marmalade lover, I would not enjoy being obliged to eat rubbish marmalade, but in practice the only issue is likely to the set. OP when you are looking around for brands, check the grams of fruit per 100g: the higher the better.

CaminoPlanner · 08/11/2025 11:09

Frank Cooper's Original Oxford Coarse Cut is the best imo. It tastes like my mum's home made.
Fortnum & Mason is also excellent.

Maybeishouldcrochet · 08/11/2025 11:11

We went to The Proper Marmalade company in Ilfracombe, there Marmalade is amazing!! As all kinds of flavours made by a small business in their own premises ...
