My family likes to go to those eat all you want international buffet places, but the puddings are always sadly lacking. I don’t think other countries do them as well as the British.
We talk about the pudding section we would have if we were running it. A three tiered shelf unit with a crumble shelf, a pie shelf and sponge puddings shelf, with a custard tap and a tray with all the creams (double, single, clotted, squirty etc), then an area with a selection of cakes and pastries, a pancake and waffle station, a cold desserts area - cheesecakes, crème brûlée, mousses, jelly, trifle, an ice cream truck, and then a little caddy of jams, sauces and toppings for the table.
It’s a happy conversation.

  1. Delia Smith's Rich Chocolate Mousse with whipped cream on top.
  2. Apple pie ( Jamie Oliver recipe) and cream / blueberry crumble and custard
  3. M & S Coffee and Walnut cake

Tarte Tatin with double cream.
Homemade blackberry and apple crumble with custard.
Homemade rice pudding.
Homemade apple suet pudding.

My mother made the best puddings. I make a great TT though.

What,s Manchester tart? X

Pastry case, jam spread on the pastry bottom, set custard, sprinkled with desiccated coconut. I have only ever had it as a school dinners pudding at infant school. I'm from Manchester and in my 50s. It has a distinctive taste. I can taste it now if I think about it! Pretty horrible iirc.

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 07/11/2025 19:24

Top of my list are Tarte tatin, tiramisu and creme brulee. And sherry trifle (no jelly you heathens).

Inextremis · 07/11/2025 19:25

New York cheesecake
Creme brulee (preferably white chocolate and raspberry)
Lemon Meringue Pie
Tesco Greek Style Lemon Yoghurt (at home, not when eating out, obvs!)
Tarte Tatin with whipped cream
Pear and chocolate tart
Tarte au Citron

Shineonyoucrazy · 07/11/2025 19:34

Spotted dick and home made custard
Bakewell tart and cream
Lemon Pudding (self saucing, sponge top, lemon custard bottom) with ice cream

TimeForATerf · 07/11/2025 19:39

DH - home made jam roll poly with proper steamed suet
Me - Treacle (syrup) tart and extra thick double cream

I am also partial to chocolate cookie dough, raspberry or passion fruit pavlova, sticky toffee pudding, apple crumble, quality chocolate ice cream, with lumps of chocolate or cookie dough, syrup sponge, lemon drizzle cake with lemon curd and custard. Bavarian slices.

GordonRamsey · 07/11/2025 19:45

Creme Brûleé flavoured Angle Delight with a great dollop of Rum'n'Raison ice cream gently scattered with those multi-coloured sprinkles.

And a flake.

And one of those chocolate, rolled up wafery things stuck in the top.

Mmmmm.

DinoLil · 07/11/2025 19:48

That's pure genius😋😋😋

Affogato- especially if it’s with a slightly sticky sherry or something like Frangelica.

BigSkies2022 · 07/11/2025 20:00

Treacle tart (Aldi used to do an epic one) with clotted cream. Although that’s more tea than pudding in my view.

ooh, Paris-Brest patisserie.

Anything with gooseberries or rhubarb!

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 07/11/2025 22:46

Sticky toffee pudding at a good food pub, I think I have an emergency stomach for when I spot it on the menu and I’m stuffed

onetrickrockingpony · 07/11/2025 22:50

Wow @Elisheva . I’ve never bookmarked a comment before but I just bookmarked yours! This family fantasy game sounds as good as the “what would we do if we won the Euromillions” one.

Never seen gooseberries anymore not had them in years..loved them when green and full of sour goodness.😋

A slice of really almondy Bakewell tart
Lemon tart with a blob of creme fraiche
One of those individual fruit tarts with creme pat under a pretty array of kiwi, strawberry and berries (so rarely see them now and I love them)
A really good chocolate mousse
Fabulous home made ice cream, maybe raspberry or pistachio flavour
A really good wedge of cheesecake with fruit coulis
Love Indian desserts such as ras malai and
kheer, flavoured with cardamom and rose water
Love Thai coconut rice pudding with fresh mango
Yes to tiramisu, pear frangipane tart, Panna cotta and creme brulee
Also love me a creme caramel
And a good home made sherry trifle
