I've been stuck at home today, bored and cranky, with a bit of a cold and very much enjoying catching up with MN and stirring the frothing pot on the school has banned Christmas thread. Nice to see you over there, @SerendipityJane!

Must be a Cambridgeshire tradition. My parents always used to start moaning about Christmas being banned on 1st November despite the local Christmas lights always being installed end of October ready for late November switch on. Reminders that the shops are full of Christmas Decs and Christmas goodies cut no ice, it was definitely banned.

Further to the post up thread about the memorial panels for Black American soldiers, my Dutch-speaking friend looked into the story, as it has not made national news. All may not be as it appeared in the sm post. But who knows what the truth actually is?

I think the rotating part is taken with pinch of salt by the majority of local parties. The panels were part of a permanent display, and never been rotated before.

To add, the BBB is aligning themselves with the far right parties like PVV by not calling for a further investigation.

Apparently, for an atheist, I know too much about religions.

You're made of stern stuff.

So being basically housebound is not good for my mental state. I've spent far, far too much time online and have now concluded that these BBC resignations are the beginning of the end here. The American far right is coming for the UK and this is a win for them.

I've also just left a completely furious voice message for Chuck Schumer over the news the Dems seem about to cave on the shutdown. How dare they? What absolute planks they are.

Michael Prescott was ‘“shocked” that after an hour-long Panorama documentary dealing with Trump and the January 6 insurgency, there was no “similar, balancing” programme about Kamala Harris.’

More read about the machinations between the BBC resignations, the more worrying it becomes

Assuming it's not AI trickery, I can't help but be reminded of tanning salons ...

Definitely an option but also can’t help but be reminded of a pre-teen daughter trying a teen daughter’s foundation sneakily!

MsJinks · 10/11/2025 05:57

But my pre-teen daughter was never allowed to dictate a foreign country’s broadcasts - for reasons that are as obvious as to why the orange one shouldn’t be allowed to do so imo.
It’s always baffling and bizarre - it’s now also frightening in not just the US.

My son jokes that when the CERN reactor was switched on, then off, reality fractured and the monsters we've come to know so well slipped through to grab power. It does make one's reason totter when a fraudlent convicted sex offender and blatant liar, whose stock ji trade is distortion of truth, can whinge and bitch about the BBC and unseat the DG. Having said that, ffs BBC, I regret to say he's bad enough; no need to add to it by behaving in a similar way. A pox on all of it.

Sometimes I’m not sure it’s a joke that happened- though I sometimes liken it to being in some weird Sims game where all the players have lost interest in playing properly and just trialling increasingly random, weird shite for giggles. I’d say we are in the Matrix but I never watched it so not sure how that unfolds.

Agree on the BBC, so many quotes they could have used.

walllaw · 10/11/2025 08:42

Not to engage in whataboutery but GB News outright lies all the time. The BBC made a poor decision but Trump did actually say it all. It was a poorly judged edit. You'd think between Brexit and Reform they've done enough in propping up the right wing here that they should be capable of riding this relatively small infraction out.
