Favourite items from Home Bargains and B&M

Inspired by another thread. As per the title - what are your favourite items? Mine are:

Home Bargains:
Sausage rolls from the bakery section.
Rubicon (much cheaper than supermarket)
Bird food - seed and mealworms
Toothpaste
Wickford Candles

B&M:
Coffee sachets
Noodles for DD
Washing pods
Dishwasher tablets
Emulsion (rare but like Johnstones from there)
Any decorating supplies like paint brushes

I realise this is a sad thread. It’s better than what’s on our TV tonight though.

HB solar lights for the garden.. I got a hot air balloon one for about £4 and it’s lasted ages. Also love their Dime bars

chequeredcushion · 30/10/2025 09:58

Another one who gets my bird food from HB! Their kids book section is a bit hit and miss but I always check it because sometimes they have classic kids tales books for 89p that are perfect for my little one. Also pick up a few sticker activity books for the same price.

B&M I usually end up buying shite, biscuits, chocs, crisps! Oh the occasional plant from the garden centre bit. I tried Tim Tams when I saw them because I recognised them from an Aussie tv show I watch, they were disappointing- bit like a shit penguin and penguins are already shit!

maudelovesharold · 30/10/2025 10:03

We have a large HB near us with a garden section. They do lovely real Xmas trees for about £10, instead of the £65 at our local Waitrose!

@Coffeeishot that is my one worry , I would end up with loads of stuff I really don’t need ,

You end up using it eventually 😀

BastardtheCat · 30/10/2025 04:44

Elemis?! Is that recently?

Sorry i got the wrong brand! It was Clarins.

Crikeyalmighty · 30/10/2025 11:33

@Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride definitely genuine stuff? Not fakes? I’m always suspicious with TK Maxx - but as someone once said to me these huge stores surely would be frontline for trading standards checking on fakes and wouldn’t risk - it’s not as if they’re hiding away low key on internet. It’s basically lots of ‘seconds’ - That’s a very good deal if so - will be taking a look

My only must have is the proper Spanish alioli in the yellow tub from Home Bargains but that's because it's 89 p instead of nearly twice that everywhere else.

Heron is my new favourite place for a browse for bargains. This year they've had lots of Spice Tailor kits for under £1 instead of £3-4 elsewhere.

They also have branded ice cream that's cheap and sometimes misshaped potato waffles and chicken nuggets that are almost certainly Mcdonalds for £1 or so.

I also bought Tim Tams and thought they were nicer than Penguins.

Bjorkdidit · 30/10/2025 12:00

Just read the thread properly and remembered that we also get Elbow Grease cleaning products and Method handling wash from Home Bargains (under £1 instead of £3+ in supermarkets).

Oh really, maybe it was just heightened for me because I’d been curious what they were like and I bloody hate penguins and that’s what they reminded me of 🥲

ACatAsleepInYourHat · 30/10/2025 12:15

Home Bargains is great for -

Non-stick foil
Don Simon fresh orange juice
4-packs of tuna
The 2 for £5 cereal offers
Bags of scampi & bacon fries (note to self, must resist these)
Abernethy biscuits
Jane Asher frozen sticky toffee pudding (delicious)

There was a thing in TJ Maxx where scammers would buy an expensive item and get it refunded on a fake version. So they got to keep the genuine article and get their money back.
Apparently, there weren’t the staff who were trained to authenticate the goods. It’s a known thing, but not sure if it’s happened in TK Maxx. I think a lot of their goods are cheaply made for the store itself. There’s probably someone who knows more about it than I do though.

Never go in B&M.

Home Bargains - used to buy mountains of their big chunky flapjacks. Also I would buy up bags of marshmallows and Riesen dark chocolate toffees. I have lost about 5 stone; I don't go in there any more.

PullTheBricksDown · 30/10/2025 21:10

Home Bargains things I get
Bath salts and shower gel
Cheap antihistamines and painkillers
Bin bags
Birthday cards
Mushy peas - branded ones cheaper there than the supermarkets
Love the seasonal offerings too 😄

GinkoRebelFoxes · 30/10/2025 23:47

@SillyGo0se I've just checked and there are three HB in Swindon. Which is the best, please?

Moveoverdarlin · 30/10/2025 23:50

I get the wickford candles. I get all my cleaning detergents. It has never occurred to me to buy food from Home Bargains. I just miss out the food aisles completely.

@GinkoRebelFoxes the one at Great Western Way 🙂

QueSeraSeraaaaa · 31/10/2025 15:33

@Moveoverdarlin there are some good brands in the food aisles; sometimes a lot cheaper than the supermarkets, sometimes not. It’s worth a look though.
