Home bargains hell.

Just visited Home Bargains for the first time. What a horrible shop. Full of the great unwashed and plastic tat! People standing around talking, you can’t get past them. The queuing system is mad! Everyone stands up one aisle and then goes to a till when it’s free. What wrong with queuing normally behind each individual till.
You may save a few pence but you’ll loose your sanity!

I can’t relate OP, my town doesn’t even have a home bargains OR a b&m.

Unpaidviewer · 29/10/2025 16:59

Why are so many of you concerned with U vs non-U words? We all know you're plebs, just like us.

Mumofyellows · 29/10/2025 17:00

I really like Home Bargains, I go there for my cleaning products and they have great garden bits in the summer.
The queuing system is perfectly normal in my local one. Perhaps you went on a bad day, perhaps you’re just not their target consumer!

My local Homebase has just reopened as The Range. I’ve never been to one. Is it like HB??

I was quite excited when our Homebase reopened as The Range. Bitter disappointment, it's like a downmarket Wilko. Love Home Bargains but find B and Ms depressing.

CharlotteFlax · 29/10/2025 17:00

My local HB is nothing like that and I love it.

Bananaandmangosmoothie · 29/10/2025 17:01

I agree it’s full of plastic tat, but how can you pass judgement about the people inside the shop when you were one of the people inside the shop?

OverDram · 29/10/2025 17:02

I agree with the queuing it’s so slow. Unbelievably slow. People picking apart everything on their receipt.

GoodQueenBess · 29/10/2025 17:03

@AgnesX , there's one walking distance (about 1.5 miles) from my house. I've been there once, when I wanted something in particular. They didn't have it.

You absolute, utter snob.

What… 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Deargodletitgo · 29/10/2025 17:04

I prefer home bargains to b and m (the range I find a bit sad and nothing to buy). HB has really good skin care and hair stuff for way below RRP and I like the aperol spritz rip off they sell.

I don't tend to spend a lot of time judging the people I'm queuing with.

Galatine · 29/10/2025 17:04

Sorry to say I must be one of the great unwashed, (who knew), I have just been there and it seemed no less chaotic than Sainbury's on a Friday evening.

Clarabell77 · 29/10/2025 17:04

Such snobbery for someone who doesn’t even know the difference between loose and lose. 😆

BlackpoolintheSixties · 29/10/2025 17:05

My mother and I used to shop at B&M back when there was only one branch (preens), called B&M Bargains. I was still in my pram, it was so long ago.

They used to sell lots of seconds, including rolls of fabric. I’ve probably still got something made with it somewhere.

Galatine · 29/10/2025 17:06

I hope the wheels where still on the Lexus when you came out!

It's 'lose', not 'loose'. I think even some members of the ' great unwashed' would know that. Thank me later😊

confusedlady10 · 29/10/2025 17:08

Is this your first time in a bargain shop? 😂

ChocolateCinderToffee · 29/10/2025 17:10

I thought you must be joking but you say only slightly! I don’t shop there because they don’t sell anything I can’t get elsewhere but if I’m shopping in for example Wilko’s I don’t consider myself better than anyone else there.

Catpiece · 29/10/2025 17:13

@Freysimo A downmarket Wilko? 😱

Maia77 · 29/10/2025 17:17

I don't like it myself. It depresses me. But occasionally pop in to get cat food or Simple face wipes, or sth like that. Actually that's B&M. Home Bargains is similar.

AgnesX · 29/10/2025 17:17

I've only ever been in once, not my cup of tea tbh, everything was kind of "trendy" ie shades of grey and furry throws. I might go back to look at cat toys for Christmas.

GoodQueenBess · 29/10/2025 17:22

Now thinking about it, I went to a The Range in a different town about 12 years ago and bought some storage boxes. That one was OK. I still have the boxes.

HB is great for cleaning products, but there isn't one near to me. If I'm going to one of a couple of nearby towns anyway, I'll pop in.

Not keen on B&M.

I thought serviettes were paper and napkins material (ideally linen and stored in monogrammed silver napkin ring). Must ask the butler.

Same!

Did you ever think that some of those people might be counting every penny and so HAVE to check their receipts forensically every time? They are highly unlikely to be doing it for amusement.

I've seen quite a lot of ringing up errors in my local B&M, so if you're in a position where every penny counts, you cannot afford to let even the tiniest one go.

letshavetea · 29/10/2025 17:32

I haven’t read the whole thread, but Mr Home Bargains (Tom Morris) is worth 5bn and has a super yacht called Moskito. I got googling this last time we were on holiday in Barbados and him and his crew moored up!
