Crumpets

Love, hate, or indifferent?

My sister really loves them but I don't.
She tries to convert me every time but I remain unmoved.
Am I missing something? 😄

I love crumpets- but they have to be practically cremated. Don't like butter so am happy to eat as they are , or with philadelphia (aldi equivalent) cheese.

Occasionally , I will have golden syrup (reminds me of nights after the pub at uniGrin). But savoury is best. Grilled cheese on top is lovely. Like a mini pizza.

Dh is a heathen- He hardly shows them the toaster. eats them raw. <sudder>

afaloren · 21/10/2025 19:47

DH loves a crumpet. Toasted well with butter and cheese. I like mine with blackcurrant jam.

Yes, the food of gods 100%. DH always calls them pikelets but aren't they square and not round like crumpets?

I've only ever seen round pikelets- but they always seem more pancake- like.

MrsWalker2025 · 21/10/2025 19:47

Crunchy crumpets with cream cheese are my ultimate comfort food

DiscoBob · 21/10/2025 19:49

They have to be crispy and well cooked. Soggy or semi raw they are like bath sponges!

Lots of real butter..sometimes Marmite. Or even whipped cream and jam! Or very well toasted cheese!

Greenfingers37 · 21/10/2025 19:52

I love them but am coeliac so pay £2.65 for 4!

BitSilly · 21/10/2025 18:53

See, I like all of these suggestions but on English muffins!
Am I a wrong 'un? 🤭

You are indeed!!!

Food of the gods! I can no longer eat them (health condition) it's frustrating that you can but don't see the pleasure!!

too many topping options... but they MUST be toasted properly & not barely warm & limp!!

tobee · 21/10/2025 19:56

Love them.

Especially liberally buttered, covered in baked beans and topped with bacon. One of the best breakfasts ever.

BetteDavisChin · 21/10/2025 19:56

We call them pikelets here

tobee · 21/10/2025 19:57

Also good toasted over open fire with toasting fork.

Are pikelets not thinner crumpets?

roycroppersshopper · 21/10/2025 20:01

Sensing a theme here. They have to be double toasted. Anyone who doesn't like them - thats where you're going wrong!

Cream cheese and jam
Cheese and marmite
Butter and honey

Schoolchoicesucks · 21/10/2025 20:02

What is those double toasting you talk of? I have been eating a lot of crumpets recently. Butter and marmite. Or just butter and dunked in soup. Might try double toasting tomorrow...

KazzaV · 21/10/2025 20:07

I do mine for a full toast ( 6 on my toaster ) and then 2 - obvs lots of butter and maybe marmite cream cheese cheese jam - anything really

I can't recall ever seeing a thin 'crumpet' though.
They are labelled 'crumpets', but where I live we call them pikelets.
What can I say? We're weird in Grimsby 😆

HRTQueen · 21/10/2025 20:08

Love them

just warm or burnt either way with salty butter nothing else is needed

TheChosenTwo · 21/10/2025 20:10

Oh YUM, I fucking love a crumpet - we don’t have a toaster but they go under the grill until they’re crunchy and crusty on both sides, so much butter goes on when piping hot and the marmite on top of that. Absolutely heavenly 😍

Andthatrightsoon · 21/10/2025 20:11

Sid James: 'Crumpets? Nah, don't trust 'em. You think there's nothing on them, take a bite and whoosh - straight down your chin!'

Thewalrusandthecarpenter · 21/10/2025 20:14

I’ve recently switched from Warburtons to Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference. I’ve always toasted twice (with butter, marmite and sometimes cheese) but these are actually nicer once toasted.

NatalieH2220 · 21/10/2025 20:17

Warburtons and toasted twice with lots of butter. Lovely 👌

LeanToWhatToDo · 21/10/2025 20:18

Agree and nodding sagely at the double toasted extra crispy brigade here.

I may lose you all now as I say wodges of salted butter with any of the following added: Marmite, Bovril, Golden Syrup, Honey, Chocolate Spread, Jam or Marmite and cheese.

I may have had to eat these as a poor student too many times and pushed the limits with fish in tomato sauce on it once. It wasn't the best idea ever but I have eaten worse.

Leavesfalling · 21/10/2025 20:18

I think crumpets can be something you grow into a bit like red wine. I used to hate them as a child (and red wine) but now I can't get enough of them, now I'm a sophisticated grown up who likes faine dining.

Agree. Warbutons products always seems too plasticky for me.

KittyRannaldini · 21/10/2025 20:20

Yes, with butter and golden syrup.

Glitchymn1 · 21/10/2025 20:20

I’m a bit funny with a crumpet, it can’t be soggy. Has to be toasted 4 mins.
