Help me write my big fat quiz!

Hi everyone,

I have to write a quiz for a group of people of mixed abilities, mostly over 55s and it needs to be fun and lighthearted more than competitive.

It is a big fat quiz of the year so I’m hoping to include some relevant events in 2025 but everything I google is war, politics and crime related 😏

Successful formats in the past have been True or False rounds and easy general knowledge.

If anyone has a good question or round I could include I’d be very grateful! Thank you

For events of the year, rather than googling, look back through your photos or your texts or social media (if you post) to see what happened this year instead.

A good rule of thumb is to make half of each round pretty gettable (eg 5 of 10 questions most people will know) and then the next 2 or 3 are a bit less obvious, and the remaining questions are harder. You want them also to be the kind of thing you can debate in the team.

Have a picture round and maybe 1 other visual round (eg dingbats) + music round (either song or artist, or half a point for each). For the music round take each song from a different decade. For your audience you might do a couple of classical, then 1930s, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, + something like baby shark that they might know from children/ grandchildren

Have a tiebreaker just in case (the height or length of something famous is pretty safe).

This looks perfect for events & facts for 2025 . It also covers 2024, 2023 & 2022! It says new years quiz but i guess it can be used anytime?

Yes, that’s exactly what I was hoping for. A round of questions based on each month of 2025 and then general knowledge or fun rounds after that. But so far it’s just war, politics with a smattering of sport 😏

Think laterally - colour of the year was "brown" so you could do a year where all questions or answers relate to "brown"
(Eg a chocolate question, question to which the answer is Gordon Brown, name one of the Brown properties on a monopoly board, etc)

And eg for sport round - you dont just have to ask who won everything in 2025 - it could be "this year's Wimbledon champions were blah and blah, but who famously serenaded crowds with "Singing in the Rain" from the Royal Box in 1996?"
