All Bran….What are Kellogg’s thinking?!?

I realise this isn’t a big issue in the scheme of things but I’ve been eating this for years because it “works” and now they changed the recipe to hideously hard tasteless sticks. A quick Google says this is ‘to reduce food waste’. WTF?

OP posts:

Its like theyve been reformed by the people who make.Pringles. ffs.

Tonkerbea · 22/09/2025 21:35

I was thinking this just today, all mid range chocolate bars just taste slimy and waxy now. Upshot is I eat much less of it as it's not exactly tantalising!

Can we add Galaxy chocolate to the list? Bought a bar the other day and thought it had gone off.
Expectation: creamy, silken chunks of chocolatey deliciousness.
Reality: Skinny, miserly slithers of compacted wax crayon that may have been briefly in the vicinity of cheap cocoa powder..

I had some galaxy and thought I’d make crispy cakes. It wouldn’t melt. WTF is it made of 😱

Slivers!

It’s created food waste here as I chucked the whole box in the bin, disgusting stuff. Am now eating Tesco own brand.

BB49 · 22/09/2025 22:50

It’s the palm oil in chocolate, in all biscuits, and most snack type foods that has ruined them. It’s a greasy tasteless wax. And destroys orangutan habitats. I avoid anything with it in which means we don’t have much in the way of processed foods thankfully!

B0D · 22/09/2025 22:56

Lidl mock all bran has disappeared from the shelves. I expect if it ever returns it will taste completely different.

PlatinumBrunette · 22/09/2025 23:00

Yesss! I agree OP. I bought some All Bran last week - first time in years. Just to make a fabulous, ‘legacy recipe’, Bran Cake.

It was so weird, the twigs didn’t dissolve at all and stayed twig-shaped right the way through cooking. Inedible crunchy cake.

Food waste? Well, that was pointless becuase I will chuck the rest of the box away now.

Icon15 · 22/09/2025 23:02

I only eat Montezuma's dark chocolate these days. Cadbury's, Galaxy, Mars, Nestlé et al are all far too sweet-tasting and have an unpleasant aftertaste.

Ihateslugs · 22/09/2025 23:03

LarryIsMyRomanEmpire · 22/09/2025 20:07

I used to make a cake with it, it was similar to malt loaf.

I still make one using All Bran although it tends to be Tescos own brand! Tastes lovely after soaking overnight in milk with the dried fruit.

MyJoyousTraybake · 22/09/2025 23:05

Oh no, I just had a grocery delivery today with a box of all bran. I need erm so more fibre in my diet and thought I'd give all bran a try, last had a bowl in the 90s. Tomorrow morning isn't looking so appealing right now!

QueenOfHiraeth · 22/09/2025 23:06

If you are near a Booths they have their own bran sticks which I quite like. Not had All Bran though so can't compare for you

MoominMai · 22/09/2025 23:08

I think people should just start returning such deteriorated quality foods citing bad quality to the point of making them inedible for you. Perhaps if we all did en masse these heritage brands might pay attention if they’re getting hit where it hurts 😐

Shangrilalala · 22/09/2025 23:09

they still sell the original All Bran as ‘original’ rather than ‘fibre plus’. The difference in packaging is minute - I picked the wrong one up accidentally.

DH is an All Bran devotee and complained to Kelloggs about the new formulation and received a lengthy, apologetic email back, explaining that original all bran still exists and will continue to do so. He also received a voucher to buy a replacement box.

Dreadful new formulation- excellent customer service!

I live in US and would make special trips to shops that had proper cadbury's chocolate. Not really worth it now. What kills me is what they did to lucozade - adding that nasty chemical instead of sugar. I used to have a small bottle once a year as a treat - it brought me right back to my childhood - being sick and my mum minding me. Never touch it now.

SilverCamellia · 22/09/2025 23:17

I have been able to still buy the original in Waitrose.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 23/09/2025 00:03

How do you know if it's new or old batch. Any change in packaging? There are 2 all Bran fans in my house and it's a staple, I often have to go to a supermarket to specifically buy it as our nearby Aldi doesn't do it. I'm just waiting for the complaints to begin.

My mum used to make this! Do you have the recipe?

They are practically identical to look at!

I often think of the cereal of my childhood and I miss it so much :( when food actually tasted nice . Now everything tastes so bland and disgusting .

Crisps used to taste of something too and don’t get me started on chocolate 😭

It’s going too far now . I feel like I eat it now coz I have too not coz I enjoy the food.

Fleetheart · 23/09/2025 06:21

Galaxy is very disappointing indeed. I used to love it, it’s bloody awful now. I think Aldi chocolate is the best, the ones in the small bars in a big packet. I think it’s Moser.

ruffler45 · 23/09/2025 07:45

DBSFstupid · 22/09/2025 20:44

100%

Increased profit per pack but reduced sales means lower (or no) profit overall.

You should read the reviews on Tesco website for All Bran new recipe, just about everyone says the same about it, hard, tasteless wont be buying it again etc

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 23/09/2025 07:55

Aldi chocolate is lovely.

JarellQuansahsGolfClubs · 23/09/2025 07:57

I've been eating All-Bran since I was a child and couldn't believe the recent incarnation. It's extraordinarily difficult to eat – really, really hard work and very unpleasant. Utterly baffling. If they want to increase profits (the obvious actual aim, as PPs have stated), surely they need to make it at least largely edible. I got part-way through a packet and threw the rest away.

@Shangrilalala is right that they still apparently make the original version but I have been unable to find it in any of the shops near me (and I live in a big city). I've taken to ordering it from Amazon.
