Where are all the daddy long legs?

I mean, I HATE them.

Every year they appear late August/ early September clinging onto my front door/car or just finding their way into the house and terrorising me.

But it’s Sept 21st and I have not seen a single one. Has anyone else noticed?

They are all in my house then. Two in every evening without fail, plus all the ones outside.

Dh calls them crane flies. He is incorrect.

SixSeven · 21/09/2025 01:14

In my house I think they’ve all morphed into giant spiders, I cannot believe the size of some of them. Send conkers.

FriedEggs1 · 21/09/2025 01:17

We had one trying to infiltrate our house yesterday. Bloody flying spiders. Hate the things

twosandwiches · 21/09/2025 01:17

One spider so far. No daddies. They are conspicuous in their absence, I suspect all together oN a very long Teams meeting gathering their plans.

There are some amazing names for daddy long legs. Some locals round here call them Jimmy Spinners.

rhirhi99 · 21/09/2025 01:18

My house is covered in cellar spiders and daddy long legs! I hate them! Would rather have giant house spiders.

No, you are wrong. They are all in my kitchen. Every time we open the door to let the dog out more of the giant wingy feckers come in. Plus, according to 12 year old ds, a tarantula sized house spider landed on his head earlier.

CrustyBread1977 · 21/09/2025 01:20

In my fucking kitchen. They’re crawling out from every damn thing I move!

FortuneFaded · 21/09/2025 01:25

I have only seen one. Bloody horrible things, dancing about your head resting your patience. Twat them all with a shoe.

And mine!
Bloody cat has been slacking off - he normally takes care of them for me!

clubsspadesdiamondshearts · 21/09/2025 01:37

I thought the same and my (new build) lawn finally looks green, it’s been a common problem in new build estates to have problems with yellow jackets which live in the soil and turn to crane flies. I did wonder if all the rain killed the larvae?

Cinaferna · 21/09/2025 01:40

They are in Cornwall. I have removed five from the house so far this weekend.

herbalteabag · 21/09/2025 01:41

Loads in my house. Just had one buzzing around inside the lamp before I turned it off. I've seen them every night this week!

Ericaequites · 21/09/2025 01:43

They are in my American cellar, entertaining the cats.

I didn’t see any last year, at all. Just waiting to see what sort of crop this year will bring 😬

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 21/09/2025 03:22

They are all with me. Every single one 🥲

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 21/09/2025 03:24

And we have had some huuuuge spiders too!!!!! Why 😱😨

camerontucker · 21/09/2025 04:11

They are here in Fife too. One of my lurchers who kills anything that moves looks at them with suspicion. I can cope with any insect but they make me shiver. They've got bigger thicker legs this year too.

watchingplanesicantafford · 21/09/2025 05:04

Loads in my kitchen. Our dogs and cats seem to have gone on strike and aren't dealing with them either. Only seen one massive spider so hopefully the animals are at least keeping those at bay.

Are we the same person?

The sods are also at mine and my Dh also says crane flys idiot.

My dog keeps trying to eat the flying daddy long legs and as much as I dislike them I find myself having to try and rescue them. If the bastards just stayed away they would be fine.

Sunnysidegold · 21/09/2025 06:37

I have a few here in northern Ireland. I do feel the giant spiders are just waiting to take over the world though. One has been lurking in stillness on my hall ceiling this week trying to lure me into a false sense of security and then has scuttled off somewhere today to surprise me.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 21/09/2025 07:33

The name of these things is an annual battle with most of my family. They call the skinny long legged fucking massive spiders with tiny bodies daddy long legs.

Daddy long legs are the flying things to me.

havent seen any yet though. SE London.

MyOtherProfile · 21/09/2025 07:35

Almost none here. I wonder what is going on.
