Where are all the daddy long legs?

I mean, I HATE them.

Every year they appear late August/ early September clinging onto my front door/car or just finding their way into the house and terrorising me.

But it’s Sept 21st and I have not seen a single one. Has anyone else noticed?

I haven't seen them either...

The spiders have been working out all summer though, judging by the size of the beast doing press ups in my sink last week.

savvy7 · 21/09/2025 07:43

There are several in my house. I do go out of my way not to hoover them up (and their spider friends)

SeaGlassDreamer · 21/09/2025 07:50

We have loads of the things! We also get them in May as well as September.

We didn’t see as many moths this year though.

Libertysparkle · 21/09/2025 07:51

In our new shed. They made me jump while I was painting. But they seem quite happy.

ShesTheAlbatross · 21/09/2025 07:52

I was thinking this the other day. We’ve got loads of cellar spiders, I’ve seen two MASSIVE house spiders. But no flying daddy long legs at all this year.

PrioritisePleasure24 · 21/09/2025 07:54

We had a few outside on the windows and this weekend we had a huge one in the house so they are defo still around….

Unacceptableinthe80s · 21/09/2025 07:57

Scotland. Have had loads. Also got a lot of those spiders with the little bodies and big spindly legs. I'd been leaving them as they sort out the little flies I can never get rid of, but I think I might have to dispense of a few today as it's starting to look like Halloween in my house!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 21/09/2025 07:58

They've just started here, I think they might have needed the rain. I had one in my car as I was driving, suddenly appeared through the air vents like some tiny little horror movie, squeezing itself out and flapping around.

YesHonestly · 21/09/2025 07:58

The cellar spiders eat the big house spiders so if you haven’t seen any of the big ones that could be why?

I have had quite a few daddy long legs in though, no shortage here!

GAJLY · 21/09/2025 08:14

I have them here!

Tumbleweed101 · 21/09/2025 08:19

I haven’t seen any here this year yet. I’m in Suffolk and it’s been unusually dry so wondering if that’s why.

ladybirdsanchez · 21/09/2025 08:22

We have them here. There were four in the house yesterday morning. I hate them so would be glad if they buggered off!

notanothernamechangemother · 21/09/2025 08:22

We have them in Sussex, but not as many as usual.

shellyleppard · 21/09/2025 08:23

Sitting on my window watching me having dinner.....🐛🦟🦟

TheBirdintheCave · 21/09/2025 08:24

A hot summer means less of then. I have a massive phobia of them so I’m really grateful to only see a handful this year 🤞🏻 Last year was absolutely horrible.

TranceNation · 21/09/2025 08:28

Not seen any here in Devon.

Drew79 · 21/09/2025 08:32

They are coming soon! Just get comfortable with them - grab one and stick your tongue out in it's direction while your children scream in horror 🤣

WhatterySquash · 21/09/2025 08:39

One ginormous one in my kitchen last week, but that’s the only one I’ve seen this year. They usually like the bathroom.

Haribosweets · 21/09/2025 10:10

I had the same thought last night! I haven't seen one this year and normally would have had removed 1000s of them by now from my house!

blankcanvas3 · 21/09/2025 10:23

All over my windows for some reason

OhFishPrincessCarolyn · 21/09/2025 10:25

Blarn · 21/09/2025 01:13

They are all in my house then. Two in every evening without fail, plus all the ones outside.

Dh calls them crane flies. He is incorrect.

Came to say this^^

I also love your username! You've inspired mine (I have just rejoined after a break)

Also, agree it is daddy long legs not crane fly

250mlmax · 21/09/2025 10:27

They’re in my house. I can see one up on the corner as I type.

AhBiscuits · 21/09/2025 10:28

We had one in the house last night. God I hate them 😰
How can that be an efficient way to fly, chaotically flinging their legs around?

38thparallel · 21/09/2025 10:31

There’s a troupe of them in our bedroom, doing dance routines around dh and my faces as we try to read our books.
Scary things - the sort of thing a clever designer of horror film creatures would make.

Yes! But I feel the same about normal flies. FFS just sit down and save your energy. You can't even find your way out of an open window, how is flailing about in my face helping?
