Where are all the daddy long legs?

I mean, I HATE them.

Every year they appear late August/ early September clinging onto my front door/car or just finding their way into the house and terrorising me.

But it’s Sept 21st and I have not seen a single one. Has anyone else noticed?

I thought they became extinct.
The first one this year I found on the kitchen worktop minutes ago.
I attached picture!
It must have survived the numerous ginormous very scary spiders that appear to have moved into our house.

Come to think of it not saw any NE Scotland.

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 26/09/2025 20:28

Not seen any here in Devon either. Not one!

MissyB1 · 26/09/2025 20:31

Only seen one, it was outside on the conservatory.

Dueindecemberr · 26/09/2025 20:46

My house. We have millions of them.

PickledMuffin · 26/09/2025 20:48

Do you mean crane flies or cellar spiders? i had a huge giant house spider in my bathroom the other day, flung it outside!

newmama2023 · 26/09/2025 20:51

They are all in my house and my garden. I will tell them you miss them, and hopefully they will leave me alone 😂

Wishitsnows · 26/09/2025 20:53

All in my bloody house

My house is covered in cellar spiders and daddy long legs! I hate them! Would rather have giant house spiders.

I've got both types and loads of them too! They own the house. I fear one day I won't turn up to work and someone will need to break into my house and there will be me caught up in a giant spider's web spread from floor to ceiling being chewed to death by a thousand spiders.

In my house I think they’ve all morphed into giant spiders, I cannot believe the size of some of them. Send conkers.

Same. Huge ones. This year they keep running at me as well? Like some kind of new spider tactic ? I’ll suddenly see one out of the corner of my eye on tiptoes (why do they do that 😭) and they charge at me. I’m thinking that Nigel farage perhaps Needs to focus on spiders instead now 😂

Lostatsea2025 · 26/09/2025 21:02

Loads at mine - rural Norfolk…also seems to be a record year for spiders too. Put a false widow outside this afternoon and every corner in my bedroom has a skinny cellar spider. I clear them out multiple times a week and they come back.

QuornPlaster · 26/09/2025 21:45

My house is like a budget B movie, swarming with Daddy Long Legs on every window - “Run Quorn, run”. Somerset.

Also saw a very grim sight the other day - a wasp was finishing eating one (DLL). The legs were scattered all around and the wasp had a wing hanging from the side of its mouth. <shudder>

CurlyhairedAssassin · 26/09/2025 21:53

It was only the other day that i used the phrase "Must be daddy long-leg season, DH, the buggers keep coming in the house, don't they?"

What I have been wondering at the moment is where all wasps have been. It's usuallybeen September when they're making a nuisance of themselves at school (where i work) and worrying the kids. Plus they usually crawl through a bedroom window unnoticed in the evening in our house and then piss me off as soon as the sun comes up in the morning by buzzing angrily becuase they're stuck behind the curtains. Not been any this year...

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 26/09/2025 21:56

Only seen one this year in Cornwall, I did wonder if the leather jackets had been killed off by the weather over summer.

Whatever it is, long may it continue. I only have to look at one of the flying spidery bastards and it's crashing into my face. Every fucking time.

Like spiders aren't bad enough, and then they get bloody wings.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 26/09/2025 21:56

I haven’t seen even one - outer SW London. Don’t they live in the ground as larvae before they turn into DLLs? In which case I blame the drought we had until recently.

WannaFOffOnHoliday · 28/09/2025 04:37

Why are the spiders getting bigger?

Had some huge ones

TheChippendenSpook · 28/09/2025 08:28

They are called Crane Flies and they're horrible things.

Anyone who calls them daddy long legs, after the age of five, is an idiot.

popcornandpotatoes · 28/09/2025 08:29

All in my fucking house
