Strawberry

Mind I forgot that I came home from work one day to find that my husband had made avocado and peanut butter ice cream. That was, well, an acquired taste.

DS had a dairy allergy when he was a small child so we tried making several dairy free icecreams. The worst was a two ingredient peanut butter and apple recipe 🤢.

Bubble gum. It infects all the other flavours too if the same scoop is used. Banana is also a terrible flavour.

ImFineItsAllFine · 16/09/2025 09:33

Banana is gross
Salted caramel also gross but that's not limited to ice cream!

Mint choc chip is ok but only on its own, you can't have a scoop of something else too.

I've never had bubblegum ice cream - and probably won't bother after reading this thread!

TheTecknician · 16/09/2025 10:44

Actual bubblegum doesn't taste that nice (admittedly not tried it in years) so it's scarcely surprising that bubblegum ice cream tastes naff. A local pub/restaurant always has it and the bright turquoise colour is rank and very offputting.

Tomato ice cream is out there. Never seen it though.

Went on a Hurtigruten cruise around Norway and they had fish ice cream in the cafe. Didn’t try it!

Actually I've changed my mind. I think fish ice cream would be my worst flavour

Lupin61190 · 16/09/2025 11:16

I had a really dark bitter chocolate one once which I didn’t like. I also hated matcha ice cream when I had it in Japan. Oh and coffee flavoured ones wouldn’t float my boat either

Rum and Rasin

In one of the Faraway Tree books, spoilt Connie asks for a sardine ice cream because she thinks the magic ice cream seller won't be able to do it. It comes with sardine tails sticking out of it! She's not allowed to swap it so she gives it to a cat.

I didn't know fish ice cream was a reality 😅

If I was going to have a savoury ice cream, chicken madras might be nice, or baked beans and cheese.

cannotfindanickname · 16/09/2025 11:52

bubble gum

TheTecknician · 16/09/2025 12:33

Gin and tonic or Bloody Mary ice lollies need inventing.

FurForksSake · 16/09/2025 12:42

@TheTeckniciandid you grow up with the cider and lemonade lollies from the ice cream van?

Verv · 16/09/2025 12:56

rum and raisin

Plastictreees · 16/09/2025 15:56

Surprised at all the hate for banana, it must be that synthetic artificial taste.

In my early twenties I travelled around Italy and practically lived off banana gelato, it was amazing.

mindutopia · 16/09/2025 16:19

I once saw Christmas pudding…and it was July. Just no.

I’m envious. I love banana flavoured anything and wish that banana ice cream was more popular here.

Mint choc chip

Yes, I remember lemonade and Cider Refresher lollies. I preferred Orange Maid.

budgiegirl · 16/09/2025 22:50

I had cheese ice cream once when on holiday, that was an experience I'm not keen to repeat. It tasted of feet and cow barns.

Although I've also had blue cheese ice cream, that wasn't too bad.

Edited

I had the idea of making brie and cranberry icecream once. It was really horrible, a terrible idea. I assumed we were limiting responses to commercially available flavours. If home-made ideas are allowed I am sure I could conceive of something worse.

I loved the Magic Faraway Tree books. Plus lots of other EB books

Run and raisen

MyElatedUmberFinch · 16/09/2025 23:15

Banana

TheTecknician · 16/09/2025 23:17

Rum butter ice cream might be an acceptable alternative to rum and raisin, which appears to be terminally unpopular here. No nasty chewy raisins and rich buttery gooeyness. Like toffee.

TheTecknician · 17/09/2025 22:16

It looks like I've killed the thread. Frightfully sorry, but it appears rum and raisin and chocolate are the winners.

No rum for me in any shape or form, I hate rum butter (and brandy butter).
