It's been 9 horrible months and I find myself looking back on those "eating the cats and dogs" days with nostalgia.

With regard to free speech, as John Pavlovitz (and others, I’m sure), quite correctly writes:
"If you only believe in free speech for people you agree with, you don't believe in free speech."
Or, roughly in the words of someone, possibly French, possibly not, writing in the eighteenth century, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it."

Imagine the staff at Windsor Castle having to fumigate the rooms and corridors that Trump been in. He stinks of BO and full nappies.

They would be mad to settle but no one seems to be prepared to take him on at all.

PRH are 100% owned by Bertelsmann - behemoth German media empire (who have an interesting WW2 history - like many of the current EU billionaire families) Maybe they will have more guts.

I’ve just seen this, on September 16th. Don’t know if the NYT has changed its mind since:

Trump’s body odour is the least of his (and our) worries. At this point the country is essentially rolling out the royal regalia to a wannabe (and possibly gonna be) dictator. Absolutely odious human being that he is.

Meanwhile Jimmy Kimmel is to be replaced by a tribute show to Kirk 🤨

CaveMum · 18/09/2025 15:21

Oh dear, Trump has gone off script, waffling on about how badly the economy was managed by Biden.

Melania reminds me of a fake leather sofa that my parents bought in the 1970s.

I think my in-laws must have had the same one.

YankTank · 18/09/2025 15:25

So hear me out: when Reagan was nearly assassinated and his bodyguard, Brady, had life-changing injuries due to the bullet he took, Congress passed the Brady Bill, which tightened gun restrictions, and was allowed to lapse.

Perhaps someone should write a Kirk Bill and bring it to the floor. Get MAGAs on record voting down the Kirk Bill.

Newsnight was interesting but not as interesting as Honeymoon Island. I have a busy rest of the week but enjoy reading your comments. I so wish the banquet had served a pig's head with a stuffed orange 🍊 in its mouth. Off to the land of Nod now.

Gosh, I miss having someone sane and young-ish in the White House. Not waking up every morning wondering what fresh outrage the current President and his minions have perpetrated. Oh, gosh, I’ve just realised why there is so much venom against Obama from Trump and his ilk - they think only WHITE men are allowed to preside over the WHITE House. Basic misunderstanding, anyone could make that mistake.

I have to say that Melania looks the most genuinely cheery I’ve ever seen her in the new pictures with the Princess of Wales visiting the scouts.

I was going to say the same.

Maybe the royals pointed her towards women's aid.

Mumsnet seems to have a new colour scheme in the last hour. Peach and azure blue

It changed as I was watching, which was strange. I could already pick out my own and OP posts as I had already selected colours (which I preferred to these) in my settings. Also, the shade of blue MN uses seems to have changed.

I honestly thought that my eyes had gone funny!

Igotjelly · 18/09/2025 15:48

I don’t like the new blue, it feels old school!

Yet another change for the sake of change, I expect. Asking why it has been done will get the same reply as asking about the interminable-thread experiment: nothing.

TokyoSushi · 18/09/2025 15:50

Don has spent 36 hours on his best behaviour, but seems to slowly be slipping back to 'normal' now...

CaveMum · 18/09/2025 15:50

I’ve gone into my settings and changed the colours highlighting mine and OP posts to my own preference.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 18/09/2025 15:51

Unfortunately the colours I prefer, the ones I had chosen before, are no longer an option.

Yeah, it's rather garish. Took me by surprise.

I want my green and purple back!

Edited

Thank the Lord they have at least left quoted text on grey. Going by the rest of the stuff we apparently voted for in a survey I didn't see, they might have chosen to make them bright orange.

(Green and purple suited me, too, and Mumsnet Posts Blue seems to be the same or nearly the same as the blue to which you can set your own posts.)
