How would this request go down in your household right now?

Our little next-door neighbour just knocked and asked, and got given a brand new stick.
Just wondering how you would fare in the emergency pritt stick scenario?
Do you have any to hand?
Luckily for NDN child, this being the start of a new school year, our stationery supplies have been very recently freshly replenished!
Had it been a couple of months ago, I think we'd be hard pushed to find a dried up empty stick between us 😄

We've bloody loads as the kids have to have three each, per school year, then bring them home and don't use them again

HowDairy · 09/09/2025 10:42

Reading all these posts have given me such nostalgia.
I was am a stationery addict and the DCs are too.

6 weeks ago this would’ve resulted in running DD’s old one under the warm tap. However now, she is the proud owner of 3 ✨coloured✨ mini pritt sticks* from Amazon. (Who knew they existed?!)

*EDIT: Which I very nearly mistook for lip balm

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 09/09/2025 10:49

I can offer you some Blu Tack. It might have gone a bit hard, mind, so you might want to warm it in your armpit for a minute or two.

I have a school-age child - we have several glue sticks available, but I can’t make any promises on their condition or whether they even still contain any actual glue!

Oh! But I do have several large bottles of PVA glue (I like crafts) I am willing to share, if you have an empty spread tub or jam jar to decant some into.

HelpMeGetThrough · 09/09/2025 10:51

I could offer a large tube of “Sticks Like Shit” and my silicone sealant gun to use it.

Never without that stuff.

Sprogonthetyne · 09/09/2025 11:02

I currently have one decent glue stick, and three not as sticky, lesser glue sticks. They would be given one of the lesser ones. Possibly a sign of the times but we've only ever actually been asked to 'borrow' our WiFi password.

Davros · 09/09/2025 11:07

I don’t have young children but I do have at least one Pritt stick. And many other items of stationery

I’ve had the knock on the door and the cheeky request of “Can we have your WiFi password, ours isn’t working at the moment”.

No you sodding can’t, jog on.

HowDairy · 09/09/2025 13:47

Ooh that's a bit cheeky isn't it!
Never had that request yet (touch wood)
I'll stick to glue sticks thank you very much!😉

We have plenty of spares. It's an 'essential piece of kit' at school and I don't want them getting detention.

PractisingMyTelekenipsis · 09/09/2025 18:09

There might be an off-brand glue stick in the pen drawer. It's probably dried out though as I can't remember the last time we needed one! I have double sided tape... somewhere.

I think I'd suggest they went to the corner shop. It's a 2 minute walk away and they sell glue sticks.

Don't think I have a stapler though!

HowDairy · 09/09/2025 19:58

Does anyone have any split pins?

Yes how many do you need? 🐸

HowDairy · 09/09/2025 20:53

Just the one please @JustLookingThanks
I'm thinking of making a clock face 🕑

We have quite a few.

When the dc were at junior school a "glue stick" was one of the must-have for the pencil case. I'm not sure if they ate them, but the girls at any rate shot through them. Ds never bothered though.
So I always bought loads when they were on special offer.

Last dc left juniors 7 years ago and we're still working through my stockpile.

I thought I had a stockpile but when I went to use one it had dried out. Despite not being opened! It was years old but still, so slightly jealous yours are still fresh

Roystonv · 09/09/2025 21:50

I can offer a paper shredder.

notnorman · 09/09/2025 21:54

I bought 3 from amazon earlier so you would have to wait until tomorrows delivery!

OdeToTheNorthWestWind · 10/09/2025 13:53

Gorilla glue dried solid I'm afraid and the stapler only has 3 staples in it. I've just moved house so the spares could be anywhere.

I could offer some Sticky Stuff Remover though?..............

Timeforabitofpeace · 10/09/2025 14:02

We have a half unused box of them from when I worked from home. They may get past their best now, though.

Megsdaughter · 10/09/2025 14:56

I have a pack of 3 lidl glue sticks. Pack of 20 pencils, 2 packs of coloured pencils, stencils, 2 maths sets, 30 sharpies in every colour, paint sets, blue tack, rulers, chalks, plastic glue, glue sticks, paint brushes, rolls of lining paper for drawing, reams of a4 card in various colours and finishes and reams of fancy paper if anybody is interested.

All only used now by one DGD once a month. In my defence I was a childminder for 40 years and theses are what's left in my art box that I can't quite bring myself to get rid of, just in case I might need them.

HowDairy · 10/09/2025 15:28

Thanks all, you're very kind!
I can offer up some cardboard luggage tags for swapsies?

I’m a teacher. I keep an emergency glue stick in my school bag at all times 😂

Bet you've got one in your handbag too 🤣

Seriouslychild · 10/09/2025 15:40

We have a number of tubes but they would need to do an archeological dig through a teenagers bedroom to find them and I would recommend wearing a hazmat suit before entering

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 10/09/2025 16:15

No children or grandchildren living in my house or visiting and I don’t work in education so no glue sticks here I’m afraid. I’m considering making some Christmas cards so I guess I would need to get one in for that.

We have sellotape, parcel tape and possibly some dried out superglue.
