God Sambal2 that is scary. I am so sorry. Bloody wankers.

Hello, may I join? I have photogenic cats.

I also am very irritated because my daughter and I were harangued by idiots in balaclavas in my neighbourhood on the weekend.

Welcome and I’m really sorry to hear of you being assaulted. I’m impressed you’re only irritated - I’m furious on your behalf.

Cute cat though!

DuncinToffee · 02/09/2025 09:32

How frightening @Sambal2

My goodness that's appalling and frightening for you both @Sambal2, though your cats are lovely.

Those thugs were deliberately intimidating you and certainly don't care about the safety of women and girls.

I read that this morning. I thought it was a good piece.

BIossomtoes · 02/09/2025 09:34

It is a good piece. I read the same story in The Times, it was actually unbiased for once.

menonprohibebis · 02/09/2025 09:37

That’s terrible @Sambal2

Britain’s long-term borrowing costs have hit their highest level in 27 years, intensifying the pressure on chancellor Rachel Reeves before the autumn budget.

The yield, or interest rate, on 30-year UK government debt hit 5.680% on Tuesday morning. That is its highest level since 1998, indicating that it will cost the UK more to borrow from the markets, above the previous 27-year high of 5.649% set in April.

I have the live feed on financial markets if anyone is keen.

I hope that running total is regularly updated. That number is truly shocking in the space of four months.

I'm going to push back a bit on 'the summer of racism'.

Its been a summer like most of the previous ones. Parents cobbling together childcare. Mixture of weather including a temporary panic mid July that the summer was in fact over, then general relief that it wasnt. Some people had holidays, plenty of people didnt or couldnt. Most parents have reached the end of their tether at some point. There has been some great sport and some disappointing results. Usual threads on shit husbands, sunbed hoggers and passport renewal panics. Front page photos of celebs at Wimbledon and (female) sunbathers in Green Park/Bournemouth.

There has been racism on our streets which the media has enthusiastically covered (or promoted). I'm sure there will be more.

But for the majority of the country, for good or for ill, it will have been a fairly ordinary summer.

And now I will make my annual complaint about the ruddy Conference season.

For heavens sakes get it wrapped up in 2 weeks in the summer recess. No party needs more than 2 days MAX.
Stop turning up for work only to close Parliament only to sod off a week later.
I'm not interested in the interminable backslapping, 'grandstanding' speeches and donor softening that goes on for the next month.
Do some bloody governing/opposing.

placemats · 02/09/2025 09:54

Oh it most certainly will Blossom and I also suspect in time that some will defect.

menonprohibebis · 02/09/2025 09:55

Markets aren’t liking Starmer’s Phase 2.

Gilts are up 60-75 bps along the curve….

Sambal2 · 02/09/2025 09:57

Yes, I saw this. Spot on. Behind the guys in masks were (though I couldn't see them) lots of women in pink because this is all apparently about women's safety. Not mine and my daughter's though obvs.

I wasn't scared at the time, just mightily peeved they've come to my neighbourhood. And the guy didn't say anything directly racist to me, though definitely aggressive. He bellowed at me to turn the car around faster before he 'really tells me where to go'. I then tutted at him about road safety, which I felt was very British of me!

The class A drugs probably explain something.

Welcome @Sambal2! I was going to say that there’s no such thing as a cat that isn’t cute, till I remembered my PILs cat, who was the ugliest and meanest cat ever invented. PILs loved him though, so that was OK.

I hope this doesn’t offend anyone but, while I love cats generally, I find the hairless ones repulsive.

I wouldn't have one, but all the ones I've met have been such characters I've forgiven the lack of fluffy.

BIossomtoes · 02/09/2025 10:05

I just can’t get past the baldness. I might be mistaken but I can’t think of any hairless dog breeds.

PandoraSocks · 02/09/2025 10:05

@Sambal2 I reckon a lot of them are coked up to the eyeballs.

There was a video on the hellsite with one of them having a full on, poppy-eyed meltdown because one of the police wouldn't shake his hand. Close friend of Tommy ten names, apparently.

They must be so cold. It is a bit cruel, I think.

That's a great and noble attitude to have @Sambal2 and I shall carry that with me from now on. 💐

All I ever think of with hairless cats is that episode of friends 😂

Has anyone watched The Hostage. I’m having a binge watch today on account of not very much sleep and my BP being 96/ 55!!!! (Also a side effect of the medication as it’s used for high BP and mine was 120/80 😇 before I started them)

Yes I saw that. Clearly off his head.
