Anyone got a hand hold waiting for SHOUT

CompleteUninspiredNameChange · 31/08/2025 22:32

Is anyone around to just say hi.
I'm waiting to talk to the SHOUT mental health text line but I've been on hold nearly an hour
I'm really struggling.
I have dissociative identity disorder (brought on by childhood trauma) and have just been in contact with my mum and lots of my alters are triggered and I think some are suicidal. Although I'm not as I know I have to stay alive else my children have to live with my abusive ex.
Just need someone to tell me that I do need to hang on in here.

Hang on in there! Is there anyone else you can call or message? Is there any thing you can do to distract yourself? Do you have a safety sheet or anything you can refer to?

Allswellandgood · 31/08/2025 22:43

Hang in there my love, and hang on to that phone line someone will be with you soon I'm sure.
It's lonely sitting late at night waiting to talk to someone on the other end of a phone isn't it.
Are your DCS fast asleep?
I'm sending you a hand hold across many miles, you can do this you've done the right thing and you're doing this for yourself and your children just remember that. ♥️

CompleteUninspiredNameChange · 31/08/2025 22:46

Thank you
I think I have a safety plan but I'm too dissociated to remember where to find it. And lack the motivation to think about it.
The DC are teens and hiding in their bedrooms.

Well don't worry, when our minds are stressed they don't think straight, you will find your safety plan.
I'm sorry your children are afraid it's so hard for you all right now but I'm sure things will be better when you've spoken to someone I'm really sorry it's taking so long for them to come on the phone.
I always take a pen and paper when I talk to anyone official on the phone.
I don't know at the most you can write down information that's given to you.
I really don't know what to say to you, but I'm here and I'm thinking of you and so hoping you'll get the help that you need tonight.

CompleteUninspiredNameChange · 31/08/2025 22:59

You have given me hope that there will be someone kind on the other end of the phone when I get to talk to them
Thank you

This is hard. I ended my wait the last two times because I waited so long I got drowsy enough to try and sleep it off.

I rang the 111 or whatever it was last time, a few weeks ago, and was able to speak to a psych nurse. She was wonderful and kept the talking nearly an hour even though I thought I'd be asked to go.

I have friends with DID, and I experience dissociation and borderline psychosis, you're going to get through this. One minute at a time. Just one minute, and when its over, just one more, etc.

Fernticket · 31/08/2025 23:03

Hang on in there Lovely ♥️. Sending you a handhold. Hope they answer you soon

TreacleMoon123 · 31/08/2025 23:04

Hang on in there! You're almost there x

Allswellandgood · 31/08/2025 23:04

Hi OP, I was hoping that maybe they'd come on the phone by now to talk to you.
How long have you been on the phone waiting?
You must be feeling very frustrated and sad.
Well it's like every other place you call when you're put in the queue you have to hang on otherwise you'll lose your place and you wouldn't want that.
Hang in there, that's the only advice I can give you, I know they'll be able to help you.

ScrollingLeaves · 31/08/2025 23:04

Hang on. Tell us now, what are any of your favourite things.

CompleteUninspiredNameChange · 31/08/2025 23:05

I'd phone 111 but go non verbal when dissociated. At some point I won't be able to text either.
Counting the minutes is a good idea.

They get really busy. Have you thought of calling the Samaritans or 111? Much love 😙

ScrollingLeaves · 31/08/2025 23:07

Would you like to listen to music?

Or are they giving you music on the line while you wait?

Allswellandgood · 31/08/2025 23:08

You've got a lot of lovely supportive MNers by your side here, willing you on thinking of you, keeping you close in thought.
Stay on that road, help is right around the corner.
XX. Sending you love and a friendly hand hold.

CompleteUninspiredNameChange · 31/08/2025 23:09

It's just a text service as I go non verbal so can't talk to people.. music is a good idea

Sorry to hear you're feeling this way op. Would it help to talk about something you like? Favourite tv show or hobby or place?

Thank you for talking to me.

Find some nice music and a comfortable place to sit. Then just listen to all the notes and melody while you wait.

Contact NHS Direct option 2 and speak to the mental health team. If you have the number of the Crisis Team call them.

You might find grounding techniques helpful:

  • Breathing slowly while counting
  • Tuning into to different sounds around you
  • Walking barefoot and noticing how the ground feels
  • Wrapping yourself in a blanket and noticing how it feels around your body
  • Holding an ice cube or splashing cold water on your face
  • Touching something with an interesting texture or sniffing something with a strong smell

Focus on the sensations you are feeling right now.

If you're non verbal contact NHS Direct online https://111.nhs.uk/ or ask your mum to call on your behalf.

ScrollingLeaves · 31/08/2025 23:16

Those grounding tips sound good for everyone. Feel these little things that we forget to notice but are all so special.

CompleteUninspiredNameChange · 31/08/2025 23:16

I have been waiting an hour and a half

They text every 20mins to say keep waiting.

Hobbies. When I have energy I like to paint by numbers.
