I was Keir Starmer's political prisoner:

Maybe she can claim asylum in the US, or is that only available to white South Afrikaners?

She totally believes it herself IMHO.

Edited

She’s being encouraged to by the likes of Allyson Pearson.

In cat 🐈‍⬛ tax news we are looking to adopt a cat. Has anybody used pet rehomer? We have seen a cat that we think would suit us. ( my son has fell in love )
I have looked at our local rescue cats and they all seem older cats - with some health issues or new kittens. I was hoping for a bonded pair but my son really wants a lap cat.

If you're near me I can help, but aside from that I would say you can't guarantee lap cattery. And conversely, the shy one can turn out to be a massive lap cat after a few months. It's a furry minefield.

Hard to see how this is going to play out well for Starmer.

There are forces at work intent on Labour’s downfall.

On Friday, Yvette Cooper said ministers were working to close hotels housing asylum seekers “as swiftly as possible” as part of an “orderly” programme that avoided creating problems for other areas.

The home secretary said: “That is the reason for the Home Office appeal in this case, to ensure that, going forward, the closure of all hotels can be done in a properly managed way right across the country – without creating problems for other areas and local councils.”

Guardian.

The power of protest?

I know re lap cats. My very old lady 21 was the most standoffish cat and had a wicked temper but she would just love us and clean my hair and groom me when it suited her.
my last cat was supposed to be never allowed with children ( she was very big like a polar bear) but she was the softest cat I have ever known. When I had my first baby she put a dead rat on his changing mat as a present and she was a rubbish hunter so it must have taken her ages.

You can't keep me out of an old church (growing up in Harrow. helped).

Odd for an atheist 😀

I’m an atheist. I spend more time in churches than most vicars. Addiction to church music means I sing it a lot. Here’s a bit of me (and about 40 mates) on tour.

No. A stated manifesto aim.

That was so kind of her.
I used to have a cat that was clearly surprised I could keep myself alive. He kept bringing me live mice and dropping them on my feet to teach me to hunt. They’re all heart.

Ah, a pure coincidence as to the timing then.

Got it.

BIossomtoes · 22/08/2025 20:01

That’s beautiful, cardi, thank you for posting that. Back when we had cats I put my hand in my handbag one morning and found I was clutching a dead mouse. On another occasion one fell on my bloke’s head when he put his umbrella up.

What coincidence? She’s just reiterating the aim to explain the appeal.

I’m calling bullshit.

Cooper’s statement is a vain attempt to quell a long weekend of protest. Few believe her.

cardibach · 22/08/2025 20:16

Ok. Believe what you like @MyNameIsX
But just a thought - would a government responding to the populace be such a bad thing?

It depends at what stage said government act - at the 11th hour, when they are compelled to appeal a High court judgement, and on the eve of a long weekend of protest? Please.

Call me cynical - but its prudent to be so with this government.

I hope she succeeds then. I'm not up for a long weekend of protests.

FWIW, I agree that there are forces trying to bring the government down.

cardibach · 22/08/2025 20:22

This government? Have you forgotten the last one? Their every move was cynical.

DuncinToffee · 22/08/2025 20:23

Enjoy your weekend protesting X

The Tories started reducing the use of asylum hotels after introducing it a few years earlier.

Where would you like to house them instead?

No, I will not be joining the protests.

I have a relaxing weekend planned, some of which will be in the garden. Can’t say I am a fan of felines though. Terrible for the bird community, and my borders.

Wow cardi that’s fantastic. I love the hauntingness (is that a word?!) of church music.
