What’s happened today to make it a good day?

I’ll start:
I’ve been planning on moving and found a house I really like (moving to a Victorian terrace from a four bedroom house that I rattle around in as I’m about to retire), but couldn’t really make a move until I had an offer on my house. But, this morning after a bit of negotiation I accepted an offer and was then able to offer on the property I like (city centre location but very quiet, with its own parking and very tastefully done). That also took a bit of negotiation but my second offer was accepted!
Then to top it off, DC2, who had been made redundant (and who struggles massively socially and has a significant sensory impairment) got a new job today.
To say I’m absolutely thrilled for them is an understatement.
My other DC is coming to visit tomorrow with my newish grandchild.
Obviously I’m not counting my chickens until they’ve hatched on the housing front, but I’m taking the three things as a lucky omen, which is lovely for me as I’m usually the person that things don’t go well for (to give an example I’m 75 weeks waiting for a procedure to relieve back pain officially but it’s really round about three years).
🍀🍀🍀
How about you?

I’m so happy for you regarding all of your good news OP and hope your operation gets brought forward so you can be pain free 💐

Today, I finished packing my hospital bag and babies hospital bag ready for my 2nd child. I had unexplained miscarriages in the double figures until I gave birth to my miracle girl 2 years ago and here I am almost at term with another miracle. I feel incredibly lucky (and nervous) but smelling all of the newborn clothes smelling of fairy being packed really made me tearful that DH and I have gone from trying and failing to accept we’d never have children to being blessed with two ♥️

schroeder · 18/08/2025 20:24

First day in weeks I haven't sweated through my clothes, before I even got to work.

whatwasthatnoise · 18/08/2025 20:24

Lots of great things for you OP!

I had a lovely lunch out with my kids today. They're back to school on Wednesday (we're in Scotland) so we're squeezing in a few nice things before then.
I sorted out 2 bags of clothes that my youngest is going to grow in to soon. They've been sitting about for the whole of the holidays, so I'm pleased I finally got round to that.

usedtobeaylis · 18/08/2025 20:27

Nothing major but my daughter in the back seat of the car with her friend singing and eating ice cream while the sun was shining is a nice snapshot 🌞

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 18/08/2025 20:28

I had a day doing absolutely nothing other than 30 minutes yoga. First time in a long time. I actually enjoyed it.

Thelosthalfathought · 18/08/2025 20:28

Fab news on the housing and job front OP.

Today we moved to the second location of our holiday and mostly the kids have been nice to each other. Finished a great audiobook with the kids 2 minutes from destination. Made a meal that nobody whinged about. Sitting on a deck listening to the buzz of humans whilst mumsnetting in my PJs

NuffSaidSam · 18/08/2025 20:30

I've had an absolutely lovely day out with the DC.

onwardandupwards · 18/08/2025 20:33

I made it to the bottom of the wash basket and everyone was in agreement of cheese and baked bean toasties for tea. Listening to my 7 year old (asd and adhd) teaching my 5 year old ( asd) to read a few words from her matilda book made my day!

PermanentTemporary · 18/08/2025 20:34

What a lovely thread.

I made a salad for dinner with tomatoes and basil from the garden, and had stewed plums that I picked from the roadside.

Mumofsoontobe3 · 18/08/2025 20:36

I gave my newborn his very first bath. No crying, he was very chilled out. He's my last baby & it was such a wonderful experience. 🩵

vipersnest1 · 18/08/2025 20:38

@elm26, I had endometriosis and had a 2% chance of getting pregnant so completely understand how amazing that is - I never really believed I was having DC1 until they were in my arms. ❤️

@Mumofsoontobe3oh wow, precious moments indeed.

Fab news OP, I’m happy as I’m in my first bath since surgery, I had to wait for stitches to be sorted and this is just bliss, I’ve missed my escape and wallow time.

AppleSlag · 18/08/2025 20:43

Small wins for me today. Made several long telephone calls that I’ve been putting off for many months and, although it was time consuming (took three hours!) it’s done and I can sit back and wait for them to come back to me.

DC mastered the art of bike riding today and it’s amazing seeing them wobbling about but pedalling like mad. It’s thrilling to see them learning such a great life skill.

And I got to sit in the sunshine for an hour and listen to the breeze in the trees.

Oh wow, that is so lovely. 🥰

@Alphabet1spaghetti2, the yoga thing is something I’m looking to get back into - I’m currently working on my fitness levels (thanks fibromyalgia, arthritis and menopause!). I’m going to build yoga into my routine once I’m a little more settled in my retirement. It’s something I’m good at due to being hyper mobile 🤣 and I find it empowering and relaxing but haven’t had the opportunity, time or energy to practise for a few years.

@reversegear, I had grommets as an adult for glue ear and really missed being able to dunk my head in a bath. I also hated when I couldn’t get my whole body underwater when I was pregnant!
A Sunday night bath is a ritual for me so I get it completely.

I love this thread! I’m currently housebound following an injury but today my teen dd finally forgave me for our summer holiday being cancelled and made me a salted caramel mug cake to cheer me up.

@schroeder I agree, the cooler weather is a relief!

@reversegear i can only dream of the bliss of a bath. I might have cried a little when I read your post. It’ll be months before I can climb stairs again and so I can’t have a proper wash at the moment

Oh sending big recovery hugs, it was my one thing after surgery I’ve been waiting 5 weeks for. let’s hope those months go quickly else you’ll be ordering a lazy spa hot tub for the garden.

Icelolly27 · 18/08/2025 21:26

My son got his first job after trying for at least a year to get a job. Has his Driving test on Friday to🤞🤞🤞hopefully this will be a life changing week for my son! X

HappyHappyy · 18/08/2025 21:27

OP that’s a lovely post 💛

I returned to the gym after a couple of months procrastinating, and though it was a challenge, those endorphins afterwards were the best!

RattlingTin · 18/08/2025 21:31

I went out to get some bread from fancy local bakery (probably shouldn’t be shopping for pricey bread at the moment, but needed a treat. ☺️) Got into a nice chat about music with the young man there and he gave me the bread free of charge. Small thing, but made my day! 😊

TroysMammy · 18/08/2025 21:39

After 5 1/2 weeks of sleeping on the mattress on the bare floorboards the carpenter finally finished my wardrobes and skirting board. All that is needed is walls and ceiling to be painted, to buy curtains, carpet, bedside drawers and a curtain rail which will have to be put up. The last time it was carpeted was in 1989 and the last time it was decorated because of a water leak was in 2002.
