What’s happened today to make it a good day?

I’ll start:
I’ve been planning on moving and found a house I really like (moving to a Victorian terrace from a four bedroom house that I rattle around in as I’m about to retire), but couldn’t really make a move until I had an offer on my house. But, this morning after a bit of negotiation I accepted an offer and was then able to offer on the property I like (city centre location but very quiet, with its own parking and very tastefully done). That also took a bit of negotiation but my second offer was accepted!
Then to top it off, DC2, who had been made redundant (and who struggles massively socially and has a significant sensory impairment) got a new job today.
To say I’m absolutely thrilled for them is an understatement.
My other DC is coming to visit tomorrow with my newish grandchild.
Obviously I’m not counting my chickens until they’ve hatched on the housing front, but I’m taking the three things as a lucky omen, which is lovely for me as I’m usually the person that things don’t go well for (to give an example I’m 75 weeks waiting for a procedure to relieve back pain officially but it’s really round about three years).
🍀🍀🍀
How about you?

This afternoon I went to our local garden centre for a mooch around. On their reduced bench at the back I found a pack of four lovely pink pelargoniums for the princely sum of 50p. Well pleased with that.

I went out for a meal with my friend only to spoons but I haven't seen her for 4 weeks and was nice to chat and laugh together.

LemograssLollipop · 18/08/2025 23:56

My DH made a joke and made me laugh. Not too much of that happening between us lately.

StrawberryFizz27 · 19/08/2025 00:10

I woke up this morning to ddog & 2 dcats snuggled up on the bed with me, a wonderful way to start the day.

I sent good feed back to 3 colleagues, and 1 messaged me to say thank you! I've decided I'm starting every Monday with positive feedback. Hopefully it will spread a little joy.

Dolallytats · 19/08/2025 00:27

I'm severely agoraphobic so can't visit people and today my lovely niece and her girlfriend came round to visit. I haven't seen her in ages and it was so lovely😊

WearyAuldWumman · 19/08/2025 00:30

At the age of 65, I attended my very first Pilates class (for beginners). Didn't think that I would manage at all, but managed most of it. Bonus: one of the exercises was for ankle flexibility, something that my orthotics specialist says that I need to work on.

GlitterDragon · 19/08/2025 00:30

My little boy took his first independent steps in a month after being diagnosed with a rare neurological problem and three weeks in hospital.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/08/2025 00:32

@vipersnest1 that’s a massively marvellous day. Congrats to you and your dc. Excellent news!

I spent the day with my best friend. That makes it a great day.

SunnyPrague · 19/08/2025 00:32

I’ve had my first ‘back to normal’ day after having a lot of comings and goings - hurrah

I’ve settled on making a decision about selling something after deliberating and being in two minds about it. Now I can move forwards.

My daughter called me for a catch-up

I looked at our retirement finances (again) and I THINK we’re going to be ok

BitOutOfPractice · 19/08/2025 00:34

Aww @GlitterDragon thats made me well up! How absolutely beautiful!

Yaaaay! Go us! [As younger people probably no longer say...]

The hardest bit for me was standing up again any time I had to get down on the mat - my knees leave much to be desired.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/08/2025 00:40

@WearyAuldWumman yep I hear you. My knees are very creaky (arthritis in both) and during the lunges they were audibly clunking. I am determined to keep fighting though. So yes, go us!

I will preface this by saying our 21 year old daughter died suddenly last November, so every day is hard.

It’s the end of winter here and today was a stormy one! Not many birds flying out and about. However, I visited the cemetery and a little willywagtail appeared and stayed the whole time I was there, chirping away. It was such a special moment.

Avavlon · 19/08/2025 18:41

So yes today was a good day

itsachickeninnit · 19/08/2025 18:59

I went to visit a friend and she’d made my favourite cake 😋

SunnyPrague · 19/08/2025 20:51

I had a quiet morning to myself (long overdue/ much needed)
I did well this afternoon in my sport
I didn’t have to make a proper meal this evening because my husband was out

Taytocrisps · 19/08/2025 21:44

The plumber turned up and fitted my new tap. No more drip, drip, drip.......

vipersnest1 · 19/08/2025 23:44

@LoudPlumDog, it’s no comparison to your loss, but my DM was convinced that my DDad came back to her in the form of a robin. When my DM was in the process of passing away, a robin would accompany me when I went for a walk in the hospital grounds.
Those small things mean a lot, don’t they?

My just3 DC went to nursery despite being poorly yesterday. He has 'episodic viral wheeze' 3rd time this year.

Recovered really quickly this time, maybe bc we caught it early. So a happy day here.

whostheshithead · 20/08/2025 00:05

Dh is on the way home from the airport and pizza is also en route.

The dc are awake and waiting for daddy (and pizza !) 🥰

Lummy, that's very awful, my heart hurts for you.
My last major bereavement, an older person and sad enough but not in your league. When I visited the cemetery there was nearly always a favorite tune of theirs playing on the radio as I arrived.
Somehow brightened what was an awful time. Take joy wherever you find it.

Take care of you too.

Thank you so much. Every day is hard but I must and will go on.

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/08/2025 00:20

I got 2 new (to me) waterproof coats for free. A lightweight one and a heavier, winter one.Smile

I had an impromptu dinner with my eldest DS,(instigated by him) who moved to his own flat out of my immediate area a couple of years ago. Only went to a local burger/kebab joint, but seeing the staff greet him like a long lost friend, having a chance for a one to one with him, a good few laughs, and a catch up was priceless. He is a lovely lad and I love him to bits! Simple things.......
