Desperately seeking that Peace Prize.
May have to settle for the Hero of the Russian Federation award. Bigly sad.

I agree with you that Mandelson will probably, rightly, lose his job over this.

But I'm pretty sure the reason Reform and the Reform-supporting papers haven't said anything is because Farage keeps declaring that he is a long-standing personal friend of Trump – who was much more heavily implicated with Epstein. Too much "But Mandelson..." risks becoming "But Farage...".

Although I agree it's the sort of "10-second belief" they like to drop days before and election. They have to time it so the gut reaction is still in play on election day but the slower, thought-through reaction hasn't yet hit.

Serpentstooth · 09/09/2025 15:57

I suggest that although there's dodgy sexual shenanigans there will also be incriminating evidence of even dodigier financial dealings, probably linked. Bigly was a shagger "I love women' but he loves the gold stuff more. Trumplestiltskin indeed.

I really hope you are right and he does.

The problem is, lots of Labour supporters seem to have been relying on Farage's support of Trump to be his Achilles heel. At best, Mandleson being mixed up in the whole thing negates that. Labour can't criticise Farage's oiling up to Trump without it becoming about Mandy. And Farage isn't actually implicated directly with Epstein whereas Mandy is. So this whole thing is much worse for Labour than Reform.

Plus, the republicans very successfully leveraged suspicion about Clinton/Epstein and even managed to smear Harris by association/the democrats failure to investigate etc. They did all that at a time when there was loads of information about Trump. It didn't lessen QAnon or even more normal people's support for Trump 2nd time around.

All the awful things we know about Reform/some of the dodgy/racist characters in the party. They don't have someone who associated with an international child sex trafficker (that we know). I can't see how Labour can criticise Reform candidates in the election without it coming back on them.

Again, nothing that would be worse than what we know.

PerkingFaintly · 09/09/2025 16:39

Farage keeps affirming his continuing friendship with an admitted sex-offender (Trump) who is currently assisting a convicted child-sex trafficker (Maxwell).

But I'd agree that how these things are spun affects voters much more than the basic facts.

Serpentstooth · 09/09/2025 16:42

Agreed but if it's scaring him I guess it's something that can actually threaten his cockroach like survival. Something unforgivable. Beyond my imagination.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 09/09/2025 17:17

Has his plane been delivered yet? Do the Qataris want it back?

Evenstar · 09/09/2025 17:21

Mandelson must be recalled to London asap and a new ambassador appointed if these allegations are proved correct.

I saw people compare Trump to a Mafia boss but it's not really fair. The whole thing about the mafia is there is a sort of consistency - if you pay your dues you get protected from rival gangs. Not because they are honourable/good people. But because that's how you keep a racket going.

Trump will take the protection money and then burn your house down anyway. (Or get you to invest in building a factory and then arrest the people building it). Completely illogical.

I did wonder this morning what the 🍊🌮 could arrange as a diversion tactic.

I didn't come up with being complicit in bombing Qatar.

No, bombing Qatar was not on my bingo card. I feel like I need a new bingo card…

I hate to think what else might be on that bingo card.

Makes my head hurt - and sometimes I wish I had some understanding of the whole Israel/Gaza conflict and history etc -but I really don’t, it’s too big. So all I ever can say on it generally is the disregard for human life is too much, too saddening and all I see is that whatever the current outcome then the hatred continues on.
On this specifically I’m not sure why Hamas leaders had to be taken out now rather than in the last nearly 2 years. But maybe they waited on Trump having a difficult minute.
I can’t also claim knowledge of the Qataris, but I believe they can be difficult at times, and anyone would be raging at this so orange man must have thought it worth outraging them - and worth losing his peace prize - the mind boggles at what is being hidden.
I said previously that Trump will agree to bomb the world if necessary, and as Hamas will be spread across at least a large portion of it then perhaps his get out of Epstein jail free card is letting Netanyahu hunt the operatives down!

You need to go back (checks notes) well over 2,000 years.

I know it’s long - still my granddaughter just told her Dad today that I’m from the Stone Age so perhaps I should remember!
It’s too complex, mainly as I think you perhaps have to live and breathe it on both sides to understand plus have the overarching view from a while in the future. I try to refrain from commenting on the awful situation, as I obviously have my thoughts at times, but I am far too aware that ‘my thoughts’ are probably quite crass, pretty irrelevant and miss huge chunks.
I can’t help commenting on the orange one though and I can’t say I’d want to understand him 🤢

Igotjelly · 09/09/2025 18:45

Listening to Bullshit Barbie is interesting. WH very much distancing itself from the Qatari attacks, condemning the attack on the location and pre-warned the Qataris that it was coming.

I have read and read and read and to be honest can't begin to understand it all. However I feel for those in Gaza being herded around, avoiding bombs and suffering starvation

Declaring a state of emergency if definitely on the cards.

Thats taken for granted, surely? US and Israel so close that informer hardly necessary. That's not conspiracy theory just obvious?
