To change the name of the Department of Defense will mean changing all 700,000 seals, letterhead, signage, etc around the world. At a cost of potentially billions.

The details of the order Trump signed Friday are still vague, but officials may need to change Defense Department seals on more than 700,000 facilities in 40 countries and all 50 states. I think he is losing some support, slowly and in a limited way amongst his party, and in the country, but when will it be enough to tip over into something useful.

I have said for ages now (check my posts) that the US has become a monarchy. Just no one will admit it yet.

The parallels with the decline and fall of the Roman republic are manifest every day.

I'm thinking that come 2026, SCOTUS will have been turned into a body charged with ensuring subordinate courts enact the will of POTUS in some quasi mystical interpretation of the Constitution (by seance ?). They certainly will have no power anymore, as a President who can do no wrong (their words) can do no wrong in ignoring then repurposing them.

How much states go along with this will be the fracture line for conflict.

It would take an organised and directed coalition to stop now. And there are no signs of that. Because - as in all good dictatorships - everyone is waiting for everyone else to act first.

Whatever Putin and Xi have planned, I am sure we won't have to wait too long to find out. Although history says a slow dissolution of any allies the US thought it had is already underway.
