I'm 56 and I've been stung once by a bee (about 5 years ago)

And once by a wasp about 3 years ago.

tothelefttotheleft · 14/08/2025 17:29

In my 50s and not yet. I don't flap around them. I stay still and calm.

That said part of me wonders when my lucks going to run out and if I'm allergic!

BunniB · 14/08/2025 17:30

Plenty of times as a child.

Less common now as fewer wasps and bees around.

Franklet · 14/08/2025 17:30

Once. I trod on a wasp and it got stuck between my toes. It was v sore!

1diamondearing · 14/08/2025 17:30

Never by a bee. About 6 times by wasps. 6 of us were caught in a swarm of wasps a few months ago. I was the only one not stung, I don't know why. One the friends with us was stung 9 times

I’m 52 and last week is the first time I’ve ever been stung by a wasp

I don't think that makes much difference - 6 of us were all standing stock still to start with, then moved slowly and calmly away. Everyone but me was stung, and two people were stung a lot

GardenGaff · 14/08/2025 17:32

I can definitely remember being stung by a wasp once, about 15 years ago.

I also think I've been stung once on my foot, but I actually don't know if that's a real memory or something that happened to someone else now that I think about it Confused

SoScarletItWas · 14/08/2025 17:32

Bee - once when I trod on it, so can’t blame the poor thing

Wasp - five times at once when it went down the back of my top. And once when the little fucker was lying in wait on the stair bannister.

Kuretake · 14/08/2025 17:34

Once - I rolled onto it in bed so can't blame it really.

pinkbackground · 14/08/2025 17:35

I’m a gardener so quite a few!

Waitingfordoggo · 14/08/2025 17:35

Maybe twice? And those were at least 30 years ago- in childhood. I had a wasp sting on my eyelid which was unpleasant but didn’t do me any harm (I had been asleep at the time and woke to see the wasp buzzing away). The other was a bee sting I think but I can’t remember when or where.

I feel for people who are scared of bees and wasps because the jittering and arm-flapping is very ineffectual and probably just makes the person even more anxious. I appreciate it’s hard not to panic when you’re scared of something though.

Newname42 · 14/08/2025 17:36

got my first wasp sting a couple of weeks ago. Ouch! Not wanting to repeat this.
I got stung by a bee when I was a child.

LBFseBrom · 14/08/2025 17:37

Twice by a wasp, once by a bee. I'm 75. My first wasp sting was when i was ten,i t got stuck in my hair, can't remember when the other one happened. I was 51 when stung by a bee, it flew up my trousers in Kew Gardens. I frantically looked for a tree to hide behind to take down my trousers. I did that and the bee flew away, hadn't left its sting. I pulled my trousers up, turned around and realised I had an audience :-).

I am regularly and repeatedly bitten by other insects, they love me.

ninjahamster · 14/08/2025 17:37

Twice, once by a small bee that was on the washing and I didn’t see it.
The other time was an enormous bumble bee as a child. It stung me on the neck and was so painful.

Haruka · 14/08/2025 17:39

A bee got caught in my hair last year and stung me.

Never by a wasp yet, though.

1diamondearing · 14/08/2025 17:41

Can anyone who has had both say which one they personally found worse? i appreciate its going to depend on many things, but I just wonder if one is normally worse than the other

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 14/08/2025 17:42

Twice by a wasp. Once as a child and once as an adult. Never by a bee.

TheOliveFinch · 14/08/2025 17:50

Never by a bee but lots of wasp stings probably around 10 , including treading on one, one flew into my ear and one got stuck in my hair and stung a few times

Marylou62 · 14/08/2025 17:51

As a child lots of times..bees, wasps and once a hornet.. I had a very active and adventurous childhood with my 4 brothers.
On my DS 6th birthday he got stung by a bee on the chin and exactly 14 days later on her 3rd birthday DD got stung on the chin on almost the same area...

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 14/08/2025 17:53

Twice. One crawled up my trouser leg, got stuck and stung me! The other time it just flew into the office I was working in, crawled up my back and stung my shoulder. Both times really really hurt!

Soubriquet · 14/08/2025 17:53

Once. Right in my arm pit and all. It hurt!! And they left the stinger in. My Nan had to pull it out

Ladedahlia · 14/08/2025 17:54

Once by a bee. About five times by a wasp.

SirChenjins · 14/08/2025 17:55

3 times by the same wasp that got stuck up my trouser leg.

No bee stings luckily.

Youcallisimportant · 14/08/2025 17:58

Never been stung by a bee. Trod on a wasps’ nest when I was a child and was stung all over many, many times. I was in a lot of pain for days afterwards.
