I’m 40 & never (hopefully stays that way) but my 11 year old got stung at the weekend.
one landed on her & she stood still and then when it flew it away and she went to move it flew back and somehow ended up up her shorts. I went to lift her shorts and it was too late she just went “ouch its stinging me” quite calmly then when it flew away she started crying as her leg hurt.

No problem with bees but i hate wasps!

MsJen · 14/08/2025 18:15

Once. A dead or dying bee, floating in the sea. Stung my foot.

TomeTome · 14/08/2025 18:16

Once by a bee (and I’m a beekeeper) but it was my fault. Once by a wasp that got caught in my clothes as a child. Never by an angry wasp/bee. I think they can tell you like them.

tedibear · 14/08/2025 18:17

Never and I do flap around and scream and run 🤣

Maraudingmarauders · 14/08/2025 18:18

My little boy was stung twice in nursery last week (it’s an outdoor nursery and they had a random swarm of them, got someone in asap and they’ve gone now)
I’ve been stung twice in my life, so I’m hoping he’s done now haha!

Seeingadistance · 14/08/2025 18:19

I'm 57. Never been stung by a bee and about 15 years ago was stung twice on the back of the neck by a wasp.

RightOnTheEdge · 14/08/2025 18:20

Twice as a child, both times by bumblebees.
Once when I was sat in a grocers shop waiting for my mum when I was really little, and once when one landed on my foot in primary school.

HeadingOutForJog · 14/08/2025 18:22

I used to keep bees so was stung a fair few times. It’s not a big deal for most people!

doubleornothing · 14/08/2025 18:22

Never been stung by a wasp, but was stung by a bee once when I was a child around 8 years I think, I stuck my head in a bush looking for a tennis ball and ended up with my cheek the size of a golf ball.

itsanicenight · 14/08/2025 18:24

I'm 40 and have been stung 3 times

Meadowfinch · 14/08/2025 18:24

I've been stung by a wasp three times that I remember. Never been stung by a bee.

taxidriver · 14/08/2025 18:26

4,
once as a child while in an apple tree, i tried to blow the bee off, it stung - i had been wearing a yellow jumper
lay down on a wasp in the house

couple of years ago in the woods, i never wore that yellow flowery shirt again
fairly recently blackberry picking. no yellow involved

ginasevern · 14/08/2025 18:27

I'm 68 and only stung once by a wasp that got lodged in my bra, so it was carnage unfortunately. Never stung by a bee, so I worry a bit about a potential allergic reaction.

Loveatortie · 14/08/2025 18:32

I'm in my sixties, 3 times, each time i ended up in a&e. I now carry a e-p pen. Not been stung since i got it. That was 15 years ago. Its a definite ouch when they sting you 😥

Idontknowhatnametochoose · 14/08/2025 18:36

Never which is surprising as I'm terrified of them and run away when one is near.

JurassicPark4Eva · 14/08/2025 18:41

1 bee (sat on him, poor bugger).
3 wasps - walking through a wood and stung on the calf by a hornet, back of the arm when one landed there and I moved without knowing, neck when I scratched what I thought was an itch.

We now know I'm allergic to wasp stings, as I swell up badly in the area and my skin massively over reacts for weeks afterwards even with treatment. GP has warned me it could be a building allergy and to watch for anaphylaxis in the event of another sting.

So yes, I'm a runner. I'm calm initially as I move away then leg it.

NegroniMacaroni · 14/08/2025 18:59

Quite a few..! Bumblebee sting on my hand as a toddler. Bee sting in armpit whilst picking grapes. Wasp sting IN MY MOUTH whilst eating a sandwich (too distracted by the beautiful view of the alps). And just last month bee sting on my inner thigh at Kew Gardens.

Justwanttobebythesea · 14/08/2025 19:02

54 and never. Also don’t know if I’m allergic or not but don’t want to find out!

Sourisblanche · 14/08/2025 19:03

I trod on a bee once in our garden. It hurt like hell, almost unbearable (given birth 3 times and had eye surgery)
also this week, I rescued a baby bee from a pool but it slipped out of my grasp and slid towards my knee and stung me! After a little shudder it flew off I was pleased to see. Meanwhile I have a welt on my leg!

Bobbedhairdontcare · 14/08/2025 19:03

Once by a bee on my hand as a child, I still have the scar. Twice by the same wasp on my ankle that was in my bed, that really hurt.

Dartmoorcheffy · 14/08/2025 19:09

Bee once, wasp once , hornet once. The wasp hurt the most (finger as I swiped it out of my hair) , but I had sat on the hornet and there's plenty of padding in that area so it didn't hurt too much. 🤣

chilliheeler123 · 14/08/2025 19:18

I made it to the age of 25 before I ever got stung! Wasp stung me between my toes. Second time was when a wasp was very interested in my ice lolly and got me on the inner arm.

Third time was when we were clearing out our old shed and discovered a wasp nest 🫣 ran into the house as soon as I saw the first wasp, but the wasps were faster and I got about 10 stings at once, including on my lip. The nasty little fuckers were still throwing themselves against the window to try and finish me off! DP must not smell nice to wasps as he was with me the whole time but didn’t get stung once Angry I felt absolutely dreadful afterwards, my heart rate was through the roof for about an hour and I threw up a couple of times.

Never been stung by a bee. I like bees Smile

HurdyGurdy19 · 14/08/2025 19:21

Once by a bee when I stood on it barefoot in the garden.

Once by a wasp, standing at the pharmacy counter in Boots. The sales assistant whipped out a can of some spray or other and sprayed the sting site. Definitely right place, right time (apart from getting stung in the first place, of course) 😁

MikeRafone · 14/08/2025 19:23

I sat on a wasp when I was pregnant, stung as a child

then a few years ago stung twice in a month by wasps, the second time I collapsed and ended up in a&e on a drip. Fine about an hour later

MikeRafone · 14/08/2025 19:25

I was driving in Spain and a wasp flew up my shorts, I managed to stay calm, pull over and drop my shorts all carefully and not get stung

fortunately quiet rd and I had pants on 😳
