All this reminded me I actually met an Afghan refugee - it was in the 1990s following Soviet withdrawal and civil war and he was missing an arm. He was very polite and gave me an Afghan cook book.
I have one question, if people are so concerned about women being attacked, why aren't they campaigning to scoop up all those women being sent back to Afghanistan against their will?

LlttledrummergirI · 10/08/2025 13:53

I've never kept a spread sheet on mnet before, but my instinct is that it is a few loud, prolific posters spreading reform will win next election and hate while the vast majority of posts objecting are from a much greater number of people.

Im tempted to try to take a tally just to see if my thoughts on this are right.

Because they are not concerned about women (except the 25% who use them as punchbags) and are merely using this a pretext to achieve sexual satisfaction the only way they know, by being as racist as possible and believing they are getting away with it in public.

As a shop worker said, when learning of another small boats protest: "You know we always sell out of Kleenex when they are in town".

Have I missed anything ?

In other news, I've spent an hour earlier in my garden watching a spider, though others tried and failed, kill, eat and mumifiy the remains of a wasp. Spiders don't give up and I have to say I did feel sorry for the wasp who valiantly tried to escape. Nature.

placemats · 10/08/2025 16:03

Can't remember the last time I noticed Kleenex. Usually go for generic in whatever supermarket I'm in. @SerendipityJane

Money to spaff off the wall and obviously it's hot so no socks

Do you live in a Scottish cave ?

Do you live in a Scottish cave ?

No. 😂. It was the first wasp I've seen - allergic to the sting.

PandoraSocks · 10/08/2025 18:09

Argh. I have started arguing with the racists again. Must stop. Waste of time.

Since I recognise all the names doing it I think you are right.

The whole site is riddled with racism at the moment. Absolutely disgusting and it just isn’t being taken seriously enough.

It’s being ignored. I can’t believe some of the most blatant are still here.

This kind of stuff is on X, a post about a revolution coming to the UK

https://bsky.app/profile/chrisgrey.bsky.social/post/3lw2vb2cqlk2m

It's ludicrous, but it shows the success of the almost tidal wave of recent commentary from the political right in creating the idea of 'tinderbox' Britain. It's a well-worn tactic: conjuring up, even provoking, disorder as a pretext for taking 'tough but necessary' measures.

I am sure I have seen the reference 'tinderbox' used on MN

Its quite incredible isn't it, hold up a sign saying "I support xxx xxx" and potentially get a 14 year jail sentence.
I wont even write the name of the group.... but i will say its a disgrace a Labour govt banned them.

But stir up racial tensions, incite civil unrest and you get to draw an MPs salary, expenses and a nice pension at the end of it....

The pictures of that frail 90 year old lady being forcibly carried by four policemen sickened me.

They were pre warned but decided to throw 90 year old women under the bus.

placemats · 10/08/2025 20:39

Congratulations to Manchester United and Crystal Palace for cup wins this weekend. Obviously not on the same level as the women's football but nevertheless the men will always persist.

There's a whole section in the current Private Eye about the language in some of the press regarding immigrants and it's picked out a lot of tinderbox references.
