Millionaire£ at 23, self made. Feel lost.

Jonesqua · 26/07/2025 11:03

I became a millionaire£ at 23.

All happened between 20-23.

Self made, have 3 buy to let houses with 300k£ equity in them rented out. With 750k£ liquid money.

The change happened so fast. All of my friends have regular income , it’s sometimes hard to do things I want to do as income difference.

I am use to making money so quickly that essentially I feel as if I’ve lost touch over it. As no one around me friend wise can relate or I speak with about it. Does anyone else feel like this in a similar situation?

I’ve lost motivation. Feel disconnected from the people around me who I grew up with.

Ah yes let me tie up all my spare cash in a house.

or I’ll buy more and use the money as deposits ?

the common sense here is crazy low

Monopoly money 😆

I am not here to prove anything that’s why.

No one is expecting you to sunshine, we're not clear why you are here at all. For context, you may not have realised but this forum is rather known for having a lot of people are well, not poor. So while you as a young 23 year old feel minted with your 1m, we are all thinking "but that won't even buy you a 3 bed in Wandsworth".

Do you feel better now?

Your jealousy is a really ugly trait. Why can't you be happy for the OP?
Why do you need to belittle their achievements? Would you do the same to your DC?

Jonesqua · 26/07/2025 14:32

why would a 23yr old use Pinterest.

Why would a 23 year old use mumsnet?

summerskyblue · 26/07/2025 14:33

You are not a self made millionaire.

You are someone who bought property, very likely with money gifted to you by family members.

Then you made a living from your tenants paying you their hard earned cash in rent and you are only a 'millionaire' on paper based on the current value of the houses rather than cash in the bank.

Nothing to brag about.

Fandango52 · 26/07/2025 14:33

Hey @Jonesqua, I feel the same way :/ sadly not self-made, but hey. And none of my friends have a budget to match mine, but clearly you do. Wanna PM me?

chaosmaker · 26/07/2025 14:33

23 or late 20's? the story changes

Pammy darling, my houses are investments.

that is not my main income. It’s income that’s never touched

Darling, your houses are only worth what the market will pay for them.
You are too young to know the house price crashes in the 1990s. Or the rate rise to 15%.

It's not an investment- it 's a loan which your tenants pay. You live off the difference between the rent and your loan.
You are a £M in debt and your tenants pay you so you pay the mortgage.

Believe me- I know someone older than you who did exactly what you are doing and other people - really smart people working in the City as economists- sad he was sailing close to the wind.

zingally · 26/07/2025 14:34

Do something philanthropic and help those less fortunate with the money eating away at your conscience. Simple.

Sorry but why does OP need to have a 'conscience' about their success?

They've taken literally nothing away from anyone else to get to where they are.

All this 'hair shirt' bullshit on MN doesn't play out in the rest of the world. Not everyone has a poverty mindset.

Please stop referring to women old enough to be your mum as 'darling'.
It makes you look silly.

This Labour GOV need houses right now for everyone being imported.

Don’t worry.

Google leads me to all sorts of places. One needn't post randomly wherever a search engine takes them.

Here you are still replying to irrelevant posts, posts about money when money is not your problem.
If money is not the problem, ignore these posts.

Why aren't you engaging with posts that are giving you practical advice and suggestions for changing your life?

Why do you feel compelled to reply to and correct people who post about the money?
Is it because the money is the only thing that actually holds any interest to you? If so, that is your problem - money is not a problem, but you have nothing else but money to hold your attention.

Jonesqua · 26/07/2025 14:37

Would a bank give three mortgages to someone with no income?

I'm not worried but you should be.

You are only a millionaire if you have assets in the bank over £1M.

Music , male.

So why the hell are you on Mumsnet? Why did you pick this forum?

FortheloveofCheesus · 26/07/2025 14:39

Your jealousy is a really ugly trait. Why can't you be happy for the OP?

Why would I be jealous?

Op exhibits a rather worrying ego. Young people in his position often get a degree of blindness about their financial position, it seems like a vast sum when you are young but actually can be frittered away very, very easily. OP genuinely needs a bit of a reality check and in all honesty, wants knocking down a peg or two, or they would not have actually come on here in the first place.

I say this for your own benefit op. Stop focussing on the money. The people in your life matter more. You will look back later in life and see how little money/wealth really add to your life. Get off social media/screens. Reconnect with simple things, get outside, challenge your brain with education.

Mewling · 26/07/2025 14:39

Where did you get the money initially for the deposits on the houses? Bank of Mum & Dad?

Bet your mates love being referred to as “average”.

Sayshesheshe · 26/07/2025 14:39

As someone with several friends in the music industry I’m amazed you got that rich by selling some beats.
