Millionaire£ at 23, self made. Feel lost.

Jonesqua · 26/07/2025 11:03

I became a millionaire£ at 23.

All happened between 20-23.

Self made, have 3 buy to let houses with 300k£ equity in them rented out. With 750k£ liquid money.

The change happened so fast. All of my friends have regular income , it’s sometimes hard to do things I want to do as income difference.

I am use to making money so quickly that essentially I feel as if I’ve lost touch over it. As no one around me friend wise can relate or I speak with about it. Does anyone else feel like this in a similar situation?

I’ve lost motivation. Feel disconnected from the people around me who I grew up with.

I have no idea what your talking about.

I am laughing at the poster suggesting OP go travelling to Bali. No one’s died but they have absolutely lost the plot. Greet each other by staring into each others silently for a few minutes, hang around with breatharians, do regular Ayahuasca, one of their partners has a dedicated womb room. They walk around bare foot holding hands and chanting to reconnect with their roots and reject capitalism. Whilst sitting in a room with thousands of pounds of high tech equipment with iPhones 😂

Honestly if you any idea of what I am talking about you would laugh too. Although it is sad also. They are lost. I don’t think they are coming back to reality.

Edited

I knew what you meant and read it that way too. Agree! Loonies 😂

What music got you so rich that you can buy so many houses?

He said 'beat'

OutandAboutMum1821 · 26/07/2025 14:46

Ooh also, you may find volunteering helps you to feel more connected, helping others is great and when you have more money you may have more time to do this.

Also, for motivation/challenge some type of physical challenge like training to run a marathon or trying something brand new like sky diving or learning to play an instrument/another language or something. I’d definitely treat myself to some high quality instruction, that could be a great way for you to enjoy some of your earnings whilst experiencing motivation and making new connections.

I've no idea of this is true or not, BUT I do know a person very similar to you.
My son was at uni with a guy who suddenly made an absolute fortune ( and I'm talking within months) with a software programme.
He invested in property too, at just the right time, and by the time they left uni, I would GUESS this lad was, at the very least, a multi millionnaire.
He stayed with us numerous times as a 'poor' ( aka normal student), and once as a rich person. He was still the same lovely lad, but I think he struggled terribly with his wealth. He kept offering to pay for all his mates to go to for posh meals, city breaks, 5 days in Ibiza. It came from a good place, but no one ( including my son) wanted to take up his generous offer. They knew he wasn't 'showing off' but they all felt really uncomfortable accepting charity.
When term ended, they planned a cheap holiday to Tenerife and made sure he came, but he kept trying to buy drinks, pay for excursions, hire huge jeeps.
After that holiday, they all grew apart, ds stayed very close to a couple of his uni mates and is still in touch with the others ( he is 40 now)🤯, but none of them have any contact with rich lad.
It's a shame, he was lovely, but circumstances change and sometimes you need to leave go of the past and look to your future. Make new friends OP, the old ones are never going to change, you need to move on.

To get an ego boost by boasting to women about being Mr Money Bags

Might be making up for the lack of something. I do hope this thread isn't deleted whilst I am at work. 😂

VividShark · 26/07/2025 14:46

I certainly wasn't a millionaire at 23 but I'm worth a few million now. The only people who really know are the financial planners & my spouse (and yes, that helps a lot).

I assume that other people don't give a shit how much money I have or what I spend my money on - I never talk about it, don't put where I go on social media (especially easy since I came off it!). The harsh fact is that people usually don't really like it when your fortunes change - sometimes even family, and yours was particularly dramatic.

I can understand why you feel disconnected and isolated at your age. I would adopt a more upper class attitude to money (undershare, massively - no one needs to know how many btl properties you have, or even that you have one) with your current friends and enjoy the lifestyle they have. My local life is very modest compared to our net worth. I like it.

It sounds like it is the mix you are missing? We've got the mix through work connections over the years - it takes time. Presumably you have access to that too? Would you consider moving or living in two places? I'm thinking more London...join a private members club that caters for young affluent people and give it some time.

I really enjoy the mix. Don't lose your roots.

They don’t need a conscience, but this whole thread is about the OP feeling disconnected and without purpose. It’s clearly affecting their wellbeing negatively. I think that’s what PP is referring to.

OP is perfectly entitled to be smug and arrogant and rich and happy. But they have found that those first two adjectives aren’t congruent with the last, which usually requires meaningful connection with people and the world. Philanthropy and altruism is known to provide that connection, so it’s sound advice.

They are only 23 so they have the rest of their life to round themselves up as a human being.

People are just piling on the OP because they can't cope with the fact that OP has made a success of themselves financially.

Some of the comments on here from grown adult women are truly pathetic and very transparent.

FortheloveofCheesus · 26/07/2025 14:46

Also op if you want better responses on here - be gracious/humble about the good advice on here (there's lots).

(For the benefit of genuine posters, you can’t draw a lifetime income of £100k from £1m. £40k is more like it.)
More wrong advice by a nobody

I'm sat here with DH, an investment advisor to UHNW. He has agreed re the £40k and comments OP may want to remember about inflation etc.

Marchitectmummy · 26/07/2025 14:47

, I'm not sure why people aren't believing you. It's totally plausible that you will have earned the money you are describing,.

Be careful with your money, yes you have earnt it quick and young however if there is a chance you won't be able to continue earning at that level look after it. You have a long life ahead and that will soon disappear.

If you are likely to be able to continue earning then you need to start to find people who are similar wealth to you.

I can see why you would struggle, you are a bit of an anomaly in that you haven't been born into wealth therefore haven't got established networks of young people who can match you. Thats tricky.

For holidays have a look at organised groups, whatever your interest is there will be a luxury version where you can meet people of your own age.

You know, I'm really surprised no one here has asked for your number yet.
You're in a den of cougars you know.

And they all love rich fit young men.

Please search up what for username means. It’s a randomly generated one.

Randomly generated identically by both Pinterest and Mn?

Also, that’s not how Mn autogenerates new usernames.

Look, why not admit that your attempt to show off on an internet forum has been an abject failure, take a few lessons from the genuinely good advice you’ve been given from people much older and wiser (get an education, travel, see the world, find actual work you love and a way to give back in order to have a more meaningful life) and bow out gracefully?

You are obviously too young to remember. It was a terrorist attack on young tourists in a bar in Bali. A friend of mine lost her son. Oh well.

RegularHere · 26/07/2025 14:49

I see where you are going wrong. You’ve had a few early millionaires on the thread trying to sincerely answer your question. You’ve instead been distracted by squabbling with people you think you can put down.

Focus on what you want to be — someone comfortable with success and moving forward, or someone anxious to prove yourself better than anonymous people on web forums.
