What do you want for your birthday?

My DH has just asked me what I want for my birthday mid-August and I have absolutely no ideas. I have everything I need, and our house is cluttered enough as it is. We have young kids, so hard to get away for 'experiences' or that sort of thing.

Looking for inspiration! What do you want for your birthday?

A babysitter and a lovely dinner somewhere just the two of you.

That's all i want nowadays (minus the babysitter, as my kids are grown). A special place, champagne, taxi home - that kind of thing.

StaySpicy · 24/07/2025 16:06

I'm treating myself to a special afternoon tea (yes, on my own, but no-one else can come) and will then just go for a walk while DC at camp and then perhaps an evening meal with my parents. I might try and get a night of babysitting from my parents the following evening so my and DH can have an evening to ourselves.

I know what you mean, though, OP. There isn't anything tangible I want. Just a bit of company and a nice meal will do me.

John Garland bracelet
PomPom London sling bag
Weekend away
Red light face mask thingy
Fish and chips by the beach

Any of the above 😊

I had a Mercedes Benz driving experience one year, and absolutely loved it - even though I'm far from being a petrolhead! My dc were old enough and interested enough to watch my drive, but there's also a child-friendly museum there, where your dh could spend time with your dc while you drive.

Tools for my crafting hobby that i can't afford to buy normally.

triplechoc · 24/07/2025 16:26

It’s my birthday this weekend, and I’m getting a new stand mixer, because my 15 year old one is dying; otherwise I usually have some kindle or physical books on my Amazon list, maybe a cook book. If there’s nothing specific I want/need, I’m quite happy with ‘consumables’ that I wouldn’t usually buy myself - I like scented candles (Shearer or Yorkshire Candle Co), nicer shower gel or body moisturiser, Miller Harris perfume, and I’m a bit disappointed if I don’t get a box of chocolate seashells!

Lynz301 · 24/07/2025 16:27

A new kindle and I’ve asked for some Mahabi slippers - open to surprises apart from that!

(I’ve had my old kindle for about seven years now, I don’t ask for one every birthday!)

FightingTemeraire · 24/07/2025 17:00

Helen Garner’s diaries, a climbing rose, a large bunch of sweetpea, and dinner in my favourite restaurant. If money is no object, throw in an Anthony Lyttle print.

Nice pjs and a takeaway

AllotmentHappy · 24/07/2025 17:02

Its my birthday Sunday, have nothing planned other than a uninterrupted lie in!
Dont need anything Im not a big presents type of person. We are going to the beach on the Saturday though so Im pleased with that.

Favouritefruits · 24/07/2025 17:03

Im in the same boat with no babysitters so I’d like a Chinese or Indian takeaway and a 1hour full body massage from the local salon. Nothing major but something just for me!

ApolloandDaphne · 24/07/2025 17:06

It is my birthday in August too. I have chosen some silver earrings i saw at a craft fair from DH. I have asked my DDs for slippers. Exciting stuff here but as i head towards 63 i find i already have everything i need.

KateMiskin · 24/07/2025 17:07

I only ask for experiences these days.
Theatre tickets or a day out.

AnonSugar · 24/07/2025 17:07

Love a birthday massage! DP and I usually just gift each other house things. One Christmas I got new pots and for birthday a cordless Shark.

PandaG · 24/07/2025 17:10

Tickets to the theatre - kids are adults now so no babysitting needed, but a friend would sit for a birthday treat so DH and I could go out.

Amazon vouchers for books for my kindle.
Money towards a haircut!

Biscuitsneeded · 24/07/2025 17:12

I always want theatre tickets.
I'd like some Penhaligons perfume (Juniper Sling) but I can't justify asking anyone to pay the obscene hike in price recently.
More prosaically, I'd like 4 bone china coffee cups that are bigger than espresso cups but small enough to fit under the nozzle on our coffee machine.

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 24/07/2025 17:14

I built myself a shed, my present from my husband is he’s going to wire it up so I have mains electric.

Redhairandhottubs · 24/07/2025 17:16

I’m always pleased to get vouchers for beauty treatments so I can have a manicure, pedicure, facial, etc
Vouchers for my favourite clothes shop (even if you don’t need anything now, you can save them for winter bits)
Trainers as you can never have too many pairs
Nice earrings
Perfume
Vouchers to buy make up or skincare stuff

heartsinvisiblefury · 24/07/2025 17:16

I wanted an opal pendant necklace for my 50th. I got a pair of iPods which I didn’t want. Still annoys me.

CoubousAndTourmalet · 24/07/2025 17:24

A puppy.

whatwasthatnoise · 24/07/2025 17:40

It's not my birthday for ages but I'd like a new Garmin. My old one is dying slowly.
A gorgeous bunch of fresh flowers.
A nice bottle of gin.
A new wooly jumper.
Edit to add either dinner out with DH, if we can get a babysitter, or for the family to cook for me. My eldest is getting in to cooking and quite likes cooking for us.

Rosalind1971 · 24/07/2025 17:41

More Jo malone pillow spray , credits for my reformer Pilates , nail voucher, brow voucher , a day off work and no cleaning

828Pax · 24/07/2025 17:46

My DH asked me last night too! I've found some dainty silver star fish earrings I like the look of and I also quite fancy a Japanese head spa that I keep seeing advertised! Normally,
I can never think of anything but it will be my 40th and the holiday we had planned is now cancelled so I thought I'd definitely choose a present this year!

VeronicaRaven · 24/07/2025 17:47

My go to for any occasion are Amazon vouchers so I can get what I want when I want/need it and don't have spend my own money.
Theatre vouchers.
Meals out.
It's my birthday in August as well (1st week) and my DP got me a new phone as mine is declining rapidly, he got it half off via various vouchers, deals and cashback combined so it wasn't really expensive.
My preference is for practical things or experiences, I'm taking him in hols for his birthday every year.

Corgi2023 · 24/07/2025 17:51

Last year I asked for a full clean of the house. Husband hired a cleaning company to come. Best present ever!
