What do you want for your birthday?

My DH has just asked me what I want for my birthday mid-August and I have absolutely no ideas. I have everything I need, and our house is cluttered enough as it is. We have young kids, so hard to get away for 'experiences' or that sort of thing.

Looking for inspiration! What do you want for your birthday?

I want a tattoo and a robot vacuum.

Jok77 · 24/07/2025 17:58

My birthday is a few days after Christmas but my go to request for one or the other is pajamas, Amazon voucher (hubby bought me a Kindle one year so it means I can buy ebooks) or a specific item of clothing (I send him a link). This year, I asked for perfume as I'd not worn it for years- sent him a couple to choose from so the actual gift was a surprise.
One year, I just wanted some nice tea cups from Whittards and that's what I got!
A spa day pass might be a nice idea too!

Time together is always more than enough for me. Although when I put this on a similar post previously someone told me I was vile and rude suggesting it.

one of my faves was a night away in a local hotel! Massive bath tub & nice grounds to relax and read in! Hubby came & met me for dinner while friends watched the kids, then left me there for a peaceful nights sleep 🤩

I’m planning theatre tickets, single parent with teenagers so I’m going to take them with me I think. Or maybe take a friend.

DeirdreChambersWhatACoincidence · 24/07/2025 18:10

A shed and a pressure canner.

TomatoSandwiches · 24/07/2025 18:10

I'm settling in because it's my birthday soon, and I have nothing on my list yet.

RebeccaRedhat · 24/07/2025 18:14

Im.end of August and having the same dilemma!

I've just picked a walking challenge, lands end to john o groats. You add your steps to an app each day and you get postcards when you've walked certain distances or passed certain landmarks. I didn't need anything really but thought it might help me with my steps over the winter when I traditionally drop to about 3k per day! I've also asked for new trainers to help keep me comfortable

soupmaker · 24/07/2025 18:16

It’s my birthday in August. We’ve a gig to go to the night before and usually that’d be it. Me and DH had a fabulous dinner out for his birthday this month, so I’m not fussed about a meal out. However my Garmin needs replaced, so a new watch it is. Hopefully the weather is kind and we can take our puppy to the beach with the kids for a picnic. That’d be bliss.

MummyLK · 24/07/2025 18:22

I really want a permanent bracelet - one of the ones the solder on!

BeaLola · 24/07/2025 18:55

It was my birthday recently and both DH and DB asked me and I could t think of anything to ask for

Since then I've seen some nice earrings on Pandora, fancy a full body massage having read this thread so will ask for a voucher for local salon, maybe a facial do I can book ahead one for when holidays finish

Onetwothreebadknee · 24/07/2025 19:37

Any of these:
Luxury perfume
nice skincare/make-up
trainers
handbag
bracelet
clothes shop voucher
hairdryer/ghd straighters

chuzzlewitthechipmunk · 24/07/2025 19:39

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago. I got some new books, a posh shower gel, and a board game.

Coffeeismyfriend1 · 24/07/2025 21:28

Lego botanicals collection

  • full body massage followed by lunch (ideally alone)
  • head spa/pedicure/manicure
  • nice skincare you wouldn’t usually buy yourself (if you’re into that kind of thing)
  • perfume
  • 24 hours alone (or with a friend) at a spa hotel (you can get pretty cheap ones, the point is to be completely off house/kid duties)
  • a deep clean of the house by an external company whilst you all go out for the day
  • a day at home alone (he takes the kids out?)
  • A dining experience with wine
  • a vineyard tour
  • new handbag?
  • a course of Pilates (or similar) classes
  • paint and sip class together or with friends
  • hair tool, straighteners, Dyson thingy etc
  • a wash and blow dry just because
I could go on and on, I will NEVER struggle with present options, self care is HIGH priority for me so anything that is completely selfish is perfect for a birthday and so well deserved for us women especially x
Hoolahoophop · 25/07/2025 10:48

I've asked for a new wheelbarrow

Stickthatupyourdojo · 25/07/2025 11:11

I’ve asked for an overnight bag from Oliver Bonas and a portable Bluetooth speaker. I’ve also asked from my mum some new matching wine, champagne and hi ball glasses, they’re ASDA ones but look lovely and my current ones are all mismatched through dishwasher, wagging dog’s tail and son’s football mishaps!

ClumsyGreyhound · 25/07/2025 12:24

Thank you for all these wonderful ideas - just going through them! x

I'm sorry - I hope you can have another one. If it's finance-related, fingers crossed your lottery numbers come up!

For me, I’m easily pleased as anything someone’s taken the time to choose for me is appreciated - but not just the first thing they see, something they think “Tillow would really like this because” (for example, last year my middle son bought me a “Michael Knight” bottle opener fridge magnet that I fucking LOVE. It wasn’t expensive. It wasn’t the first thing he saw (he searched for ideas based on things he knows I like). Does that make sense?

My STBXH (god it feels so good typing that) has always been crap. So I have to give him ideas meaning there’s just no surprises for me ever. Things I suggest are:

Board games I like the look of
Books by a new author I’d discovered and liked
Memorabilia for favourite tv shows
Before streaming, CD’s or DVD’s - I would still consider this for something I wanted to have a physical copy of though

I did try multiple times saying no physical gift but would love for him to pay for a cleaner to come in and do a deep clean - sadly he has never done that but that would be the best present ever

I’ve lost count of how many promised (professional) massages or hair cuts I’ve missed over the years though because he says it them never books it or pays me for it if I do get it done. And last year I missed out on Kylie tickets because he suggested it then wanted me to research it, pick dates/venues and then book and pay for it myself (that I knew he’d never repay me for) and then said he would come too which would have ruined it for me. I told him it was a great idea for a present. I even found him 2 venues and dates that were good for me, but told him it wasn’t a gift if i had to do all the leg work and pay for it myself so on principle I wasn’t - sure enough he couldn’t be arsed to try to buy the tickets and they sold out.

Sorry, that turned into a rant!

@RebeccaRedhat what app is that please? I try to do a lot of walking and play Pokemon Go to get my steps up - but I like the idea of that challenge and motivation!

Hoolahoophop · 25/07/2025 13:00

Also ask every year for someone to clean my oven. Nobody will ever gift that though.

MsSmartShoes · 25/07/2025 15:34

Books, skincare, candles, flower subscription, theatre tickets, Everyman subscription, Le Cruset Pan, perfume, new bath robe, a puppy, new trainers, a necklace, favourite take away, a meal out, champagne, a case of my favourite wine, a facial at a swanky spa, cashmere jumper…..

Rainbowpumpkin · 25/07/2025 16:30

I stopped asking for stuff years ago. I'd rather have an experience, whether that's dinner or afternoon tea, a show or gig. I dont mind as long as its something that creates memories 😁
